    Where did you order the starlink pole mount kit from in Canada?

  • @PianoDentist
    @PianoDentist 3 года назад +6

    Once Starlink has global coverage, I expect - amongst other use cases - campsites will buy them and add AP's around their site. This could fuel off grid local community wireless networks too. Thanks for sharing your experience with us.

    How long is your J Pole? I was looking a 4 footer and wasn't sure if it would need to be braced. Yours looks pretty tall with no bracing.

    I install Starlink in the Durham Region area of Toronto. When you installed the dish on that pole, did you install a bolt thru the pole to prevent the Starlink dish pole from rotating inside it?

    • @MuskokaRepublic
      @MuskokaRepublic  3 года назад

      The starlink pole adapter is attached to the pole via the included anchor bolts. It cannot move around at all.

    Right On! Cool update...man you guys are really getting the cold and snow depth South of me...I thought we'd have more of it up here! Anyways, that delay in obtaining service was not a first but is rare as I've saw others have that issue where it took several hours to obtain service. I, like you, did initially keep my Bell Turbo Hub active as a safe guard for a month and I had zero usage when I did call in a cancel so if that's a benchmark of how much I lean on Starlink as my daily provider then.
    As for watching Netflix or any streaming service and discussing the momentarily hiccups of service I can attest that streaming TV does not notice those moments at all because of it's buffer. So in that respect as a service that people are wanting which is unlimited uninterrupted streaming TV then this takes the Gold.
    What a nice little slice of heaven you have going on there in that spot, with a cozy warm atmosphere plus a good ole hot dish! Where you have your dish mounted is the modem just inside that building in an unheated atmosphere cause I was going to install mine in my garage at some point maybe because where I have it on my house I'm thinking when my Willow Trees fill out this summer I'll perhaps have some blockage.
    If your router is installed in an unheated area please keep us updated on it's operation cause I would really like to have mine the same!

    Does the base have to be mounted on a flat surface or could you mount it on a slanted roof { because the Dish will move around to find the Sats.} itself.

    • @MuskokaRepublic
      @MuskokaRepublic  3 года назад

      Yes, you can mount on a slanted roof. You will need the starlink volcano mount kit. Cheers.

    Been enjoying your channel. Reviews have been good on Starlink so I hope it works out for you. I’m at Hells Canyon with HughesNet and it sucks. I’m on the list to receive a beta hopefully sooner than later. I definitely need a pole mount and was wondering if it was offered as an option when you initially ordered the dish. Good luck!

    • @MuskokaRepublic
      @MuskokaRepublic  3 года назад +2

      Thank you kindly for watching. Crossing my fingers for you - hope you get the invite. Yes, the pole mount kit is an optional purchase. It was $35 (Canadian dollars). They also have a roof mount kit, but not sure what the price is.

    • @RogerDiotte
      @RogerDiotte 3 года назад +1

      Sorry to interrupt here but also, when you do finally get the invite to subscribe you will then get your opportunity now to create a Starlink Account to start sign up. When you do this you will be at the subscribe page where you input your information, billing address, credit etc however while in there you will see additional ordering options to accessories. Click on that and you can add the options to your order for those items. There's the Pole Mount, Hurricane Mount etc etc etc. Depending on what you need if your thinking the pole mount then you can also add the wall hole kit which consists of a plug kit that does just that...plugs the 3/4 inch hole you have to drill through your wall to enter your home with the cable. I didn't purchase the kit but rather used a flexible mastic putty like electricians/cable installer have to fill the gaps.
      Once you add your options then you can proceed with the order to ensure everything arrives likely on the same day.

    During these times (Beta phase), please folks try as much as possible NOT to cut-off power to your system (specially receiver). They are getting constant updated firmware, and if you happen to pull the plug just when that is downloading/installing the new firmware, you might crash and brick your receiver. My cousin learned that the hard way. He received an replacement and now he even has an UPS Power Supply only for the Starlking system.

    15 km. from the order address is not a problem... they just need you to be near a ground station (for the satellite to relay your data to.) It should be fine.

    There are posts of both success and non successful use of these outside their "geofenced" service address.
    I have had good response from the support contacts, usually within a day.
    Remember there are times of no service because of the minimal coverage, considering their planned coverage, at this time.

    Have you checked if you're in the same cell as your address in town? There are two levels of cell from what I've gathered. One layer has a cell that covers Toronto, Muskoka etc. from St Catherines to Parry Sound - cell 822b9ff. But if you drill down, you get into a layer of smaller cells. Bracebridge is in 842b9e3 for example. I'm looking at ordering in one of the smaller cells and using it in the cell 'next door' but am dubious about it working. Hopefully by the time I have to order in April I can order specifically for my actual location as I'm only 2KM away from a location I can order from but it happens to be in a different smaller cell. sebsebmc.github.io/starlink-coverage/index.html

    • @MuskokaRepublic
      @MuskokaRepublic  3 года назад

      Yes, my home and the current location of the dish are still in the same cell. I have read online that these cell configurations are not accurate though. Not sure if that is true or not.
