Sonic Adventure "OPEN YOUR HEART" (Early demo feat Kenichi Tokoi on vocals)

- I found this demo on the Jun Senoue forums long before it closed, it seems to be earlier than the famous demo featuring Eizo Sakamoto, from what i remember someone told me that the one singing here appears to be Kenichi Tokoi. As you can here on the end of this audio there's some commentary.

At 1:08, those seem to be the exact same lyrics as heard in the Transmutator vs. Razed in Black remix from the 1998 Sonic Adventure REMIX album. That could mean that remix was made when this was the "final" version of the song.
I love discovering prototypes of my favorite peices of Media and hearing a early demo of this is just peak to me!
I'm sure this recording came from a Radio DC broadcast episode, I should look more if this exist somewhere. I've found various episodes on NicoNico and here on YT.
I'm shocked because no information exist about the broadcasting program "Radio DC" (well at least in English sites), not even in Sonic Retro or Sega Retro... Yeah, I'm not talking about the music album which has the same name. Radio DC is an Internet radio program broadcasted by Wave Master.
It's from a Feb 2004 episode Jun Senoue appeared on to promote the OST of Sonic Heroes. He played this demo as part of his appearance. The ep is on Nicovideo, I found it last year.
@@NinjaCoachZ Oh, yeah, I found it. It's actually from March 2nd. The episode is called "「ソニックヒーローズ」＆「頭文字D」サントラ発売記念Ｗ特番！(後半戦）". It features Jun Senoue and seiyuu Yoshiko Takeda.
In this episode they talk about the soundtrack releases of Sonic Heroes, Initial D Special Stage and Initial D Arcade Stage. This episode is divided in two parts, the 1st part is where this version was played.
As a side note, I really loved listening to these episodes, because they feature various Sega composers like Tomoko Sasaki, Naofumi Hataya, Hideaki Kobayashi... etc.

There's been a lot of discussion back and forth in these comments about what the lyrics in this video are and there's a lot of conflicting answers that make no sense, so I decided to finally try and piece together for *certain* what's said in this video - and after literal *hours* of piecing things together, slowing it down, getting other's opinions etc. I think I've finally managed to piece together more or less what the lyrics are - and the best bit is *it makes sense!*
What I can say for certain after spending hours on this is it's *definitely not scatting!* Because there are sentences that *make sense* in there, and there are backing vocals repeating things, *and* this was used in that SONIC ADVENTURE Remix (implying this was considered some kind of "milestone" for the song), so all in all, I'm 99% sure there are actual lyrics.

Awesome! I mostly assumed this was a "you can do anything" situation where there is some sort of meaning to the lyrics, but the language barrier between Japanese and English caused it to die off somewhere. These lyrics not only make more since in context to the game, but also fall in line with what Jun senoue has stated in interviews. Overall, great work! "Go In full of speed", I think that might actually be the true lyric! Most of us have been using "Go in for the speed" which never made much sense. I also think "Nothing out to get me because I will live my life MY WAY!" may also be correct. it sounds a lot more natural than my own guesses, and after listening again, it seems to be closer to the actual audio. Overall, good ears!

I think I managed to put together something that makes way more sense than this, especially lines like "sacrifice my head on the fire"
What if it's not "put my head on the fire", but "put my hand on the fire"? It could be referencing Scaevola, a roman man who put his hand on the fire to prove his people's determination
@@gianluco I'm pretty confident I figured out what he's actually saying, which is "you can find my help all the while", as seen in another comment. Could be that I'm wrong though!
I doubt that it's a reference to said roman man. These lyrics were written by Jun, and he's said in interviews he, as a Japanese man, really struggled to come up with English lyrics that rhymed and had meaning, so I think it's quite safe to say these prototype lyrics are pretty trivial in meaning, especially given they scrapped for something a _little_ more poetic written by someone else in the final song

According to the last part of this song, this song was originally called "Go In For the Speed"

It's interesting that one of the lyrics was kinda kept in the final version, that being "I see the fall for everyone" which became "I see the chaos for everyone"

Well, I tried my best in another comment and I _think_ it's pretty accurate, I mean it makes sense. And no it's not Japanese.

Scatting is a way for lyricists to determine which words fit the tempo and feel of a melody.
It isn't, there are definitely lyrics here because some sentences do make sense. I think I managed to more or less accurately piece together what was said, and it does make sense, which I put in another comment

demo versions of songs generally are unmixed and have low recording quality. not to mention that kenichi isn't in the best at english speaking, let alone singing
