  • This video instructs how to help a baby learn to transition from standing at furniture down to the floor with help. My name is Amy Sturkey, PT. I am a pediatric physical therapist in the United States. This video teaches a simple technique of how to help your baby learn to move from standing at furniture to sitting on the floor with your help. I started this video series to help families with a child with Microcephaly; however, this technique could be used with any child with a developmental delay who is not good at transitioning down from standing with control. This video is only appropriate for children who already pulling up to stand. This is not appropriate for a much weaker child than the one pictured in this video. I hope you find this idea useful and simple to follow through.
    My website is www.pediatricPTexercises.com. My Facebook page is Pediatric Physical Therapy Exercises. My informational books, "A is for Autism," "C is for Cerebral Palsy," "D is for Down Syndrome," "Pediatric Physical Therapy Strengthening Exercises for the Hips" and "Pediatric Physical Therapy Strengthening Exercises for the Knees" are available on Amazon. "A is for ADHD" should be available shortly. Do not hesitate to contact me at amysturkey@gmail.com with questions, concerns or favorable reviews! Please note I am unable to provide treatment recommendations for a child I have not personally evaluated.
    I am so honored to have people from all over the world watch my videos. I have reviewed and corrected the closed captions for this video so that you might understand what I am saying even if you don't speak English. I hope the directions below are helpful to you.

    omg thank you!! My son just learned how to pull up and I had no idea how to get him down because he doesn't seem to want to squat! This seems much simpler and such a duh cause it's just the opposite of how he pulls up!

      Pediatric Physical Therapy Exercises my son doesn’t know how to get down from a stand, but he never tries to stand unless he is in the crib or pack and play. Is there a way to help teach him how to get down from an awkward angle?

    Hi
    My son is 14month old & he has gone through epileptic seizures after birth. Due to this his milestones have not been covered till now. He doesn't rolls, crawl, no neck holding, no standing. We are doing pediatric physiotherapy from past 8month but there is no result.What we should do now so that he can achieve his milestones early!

      I am so sorry to hear of your difficulties. It is unethical for me to provide treatment suggestions for a child I have not personally evaluated. I hear your frustrations. I hope some of my videos have been helpful. I have 2 different playlists that have exercises that I hope have been helpful. Make sure you practice the exercises at home as well. No matter the diagnosis, children always do better with parents who practice at home. I wish you the very best for your son.

    Hi this is mohan.. I have 1year boy baby he not able walk and sit alone.. I had contact terapist also they suggest some exercise which is in your videos but he used cry for doing exercise.. Please suggest

    • @pediatricPTexercises
      @pediatricPTexercises  3 года назад

      Babies can cry for a variety of reasons during exercises. It could be the exercise is too hard. It could be that it is not the right time of day to try the exercise. It could be the baby is having trouble breathing. It could be that you are not providing enough entertainment for the baby to enjoy it. It could be that it’s just the first time you’ve tried the activity so it will take some time before the child enjoys it. It could be that you were not having fun and so the baby realizes this and is not having fun either.Really, a local physical therapist is your best bet to customize the activities specifically for your child to the right level so that your child can enjoy it as much as possible.

    Which leg do I bend if he has weakness on L side?

    • @pediatricPTexercises
      @pediatricPTexercises  2 года назад +1

      If you want it to be easier pull back the left leg. If you want to strengthen the left leg, pull back the right leg

    So my 15 month old stands then sits on butt to get down....i should be encouraging this technique instead?

    • @pediatricPTexercises
      @pediatricPTexercises  4 года назад

      Getting down sitting on your butt is an ok way to get down. But most children learn to put one knee down first and you see that preferentially. When you use 2 legs as you describe to get down, you are allowing both legs to do the work. It takes more strength to get down with 1 leg and then the other. I don't know anything about your child so I can't say whether to encourage this technique. But I can say that with most babies I work with, I work on the putting only 1 leg down technique until the child can do it on their own.

    I have a 3.8 y/o child with Angelman syndrome. He is not cooperative with putting his feet on the ground with attempts to stand. How can I get him to bear weight through both legs?

    • @pediatricPTexercises
      @pediatricPTexercises  4 года назад

      Well I have no idea of what the best answer is for your child, but the things I think about generally with a child who does not want to put feet on the ground are sensory related. I would do foot massage and foot pounding and whole body vibration and placing him daily in a stander for an hour or more at a time.

    are you teaching them how to kneel for ВLМ. it is not in subconscious mind of a child or adult to do this. two reasons, you would do it if you have a total knee replacement or back pain. lol. you standing up. I'm asking you to pick up the pen from the floor. are you going to kneel or bend down ?! lol
