When the Serra Ascendant got sawed in half, the copies have base stats equal to half the current stats so it would create two 8/8 lifelinks instead of 6/6s
And it would've actually made a big difference here!
Not sure it works like this. It destroys the creature first and checks the stats after it has died. So there is no applied buff
@@bugfi5h442 It's called the last known information rule. When the game needs information about an object that no longer exists, it uses the last information it had before ceasing to exist (in this case, due to changing zones). The creature was a 6/6 as it left the battlefield.
You can check the rulings on Gatherer if you want further assurance.

Destroy target creature. If that creature dies this way, its controller creates two tokens that are copies of that creature, except their base power is half that creature's power and their base toughness is half that creature's toughness. Round up each time.

Nice to see people running Ratadrabik in cEDH. I fucking love that card so much and even my "legends laying around" ratadrabik deck is pretty gnarly for folks to deal with effectively.
It had free reign for multiple turns and still lost.

One of our players is a rowan stan. He's won insane amount of games with her. Nearly even won multiple tournaments. But this game is a good showing of exactly what happens when everyone knows the deck.
I know it's part of the game and why he did it but, going after the same person the whole game is so tilting
I’m a Rowan pilot and holy cow (mtg cannon reference) I was so excited to see her in todays episode!!!!
Playing her for a few months now, I think there’s a few things I wanna say for anyone looking to pilot and I’m case y’all do a future episode with her included:
- I’ve found that Rowan shines with heavy removal in the deck as it makes most meta removal spells a cutdown with barely any limits.
- playing bad spells is the downside of this deck as Rowan is a pretty monolith commander in regards to the card quality and how high the ceiling is for cards just out of reach of CEDH meta play. Ex. I run elicit shipment as a 1 card wincon with Rowan, but it is useless without her. The same goes for most of the cards I’ve seen in other pilots lists.
- I think people should steer away from thinking of Rowan as a “big spells” commander and instead should look at her as a mana crypt/mana vault in the command zone. I have found that in many games I often win because of the ease of casting pieces on my turn and being able to keep mana up for interaction.
-in regards to the previous ^, Rowan is a storm deck. The mana advantage she provides is parallel to Kinnen, although, it comes with more risk as she telegraphs the importance of life totals as well as takes a turn to be able to pop off.
All that said, I linked my current list that I run and would love to chat with others about how viable Rowan is in the meta. (Also, new major upgrades coming in outlaws!!)

I have often thought that.
Two things that stand out to me: 1: Saw in Half targeting Serra's Ascendant = 👌 2: I was able to do a similar thing Higher did with Sevinne's Reclamation, but with Animate Dead instead of Ashnod's Altar to go through a worldgorger loop and ping down everyone with Jeska, Thrice Reborn. Great game!

Even if the layers agree with you (they don't), saw specifies BASE POWER.
@@Dracomandriuthus this isn't correct. If you re-read Saw you'll see that it sets the base power and toughness of the tokens, it only refers to the power and toughness of the original creature. But if you aren't convinced, you can go to the gatherer rulings on Saw and see that it does specify that the power and toughness of the tokens is based on the power and toughness of the creature when it was last on the battlefield (i.e. with buffs).

A strategy ive seen for atraxa piles is separating the pile into card types and then making selections. I just find it to be better to break down large chunks of information into smaller bits
The Saw in half makes two 3/3s that get +5/+5 and flying. A bit of an error there, it could matter.
Ratadrabik is my favorite commander, I've been looking for a cEDH list, super excited.

Saw in half copies the power at the time that it copies, so the serra ascendant copies would be base 3/3, and with their abilities would be 8/8s.... scary!

Saw in half turns the serra's acendants current power into half of their base power meaning they are both 8/8 at the moment of etb

One thing I always think is funny is that Serra Ascendant has fallen out of favour in regular commander and is getting played more in CEDH, I never see it anymore in lower power games because it feels like it doesn't do enough but in cedh where everyone's paying life all the time a 6/6 flying lifelink that denies your opponent 6 Necropotence cards is pretty good.
I know rowan is SUPER fragile. I HIGHLY recommend path of the pyromancer if you are running underworld breach already anyway. with just a 4 life reduction, its a great winning line. Kriik is too amazing for the decklist in general, especially for when you're short on colored mana. Behold the Beyond is also usually as bad tutor due to cost but Rowan gets to be one of the few to make an amazing use of it for just 5 life loss (easily done through a mana crypt "unlucky" flip or ancient tomb + 3 damage from pain lands), feeds breach nicely if you choose to grab it.
Torment of hailfire is a fun wincon but varies too much based on people's card draw and board state, so without storm kings thunder, I've been less happy with Torment without it being in the 20-30 area.
i'm glad there's more content coming up with the Rowan deck because wow that's so terrible being the only player with such a target and no blockers on top of the fact we're talking about getting smacked by serra ascendant. For me, it's always a "feels bad" when in this type of situation. But then, i find that if you sit at the table and players are focusing you instead of targeting someone else, your playing the wrong commander. However, i'd like to say Rowan Scion of War is "powerful" but she needs to have haste or untap to really do anything and your life total may be too low to take advantage of at that point.

FYI if you saw in half serra ascendant they actually are 8/8 because of the weird wording on saw in half that checks for the original creatures power, not base power.

I noticed dylan isn't running cavern of souls in atraxa and found it interesting. I don't know if he's talked about it before, but it might be a good addition just to get all four of those pips easier and to make sure atraxa resolves. I know atraxa probably never gets countered, but it still might be worth it
Colourless lands are really rough in four colour decks. They have to be really good to be worth the inclusion, and I'm not sure "Atraxa is uncounterable" is good enough to warrant having a worse time casting other spells. 🤔

Duals are reserve list, so anything other than original art will always be proxies. Not sure where that specific art is from though, but there are a lot of options out there for proxy duals.

New Cedh player here👋🏽 quick question about proxy cards for tournament play. Do i need to make sure my proxy card is a replica of the card or can they have different artworks? Is there a certain place I should be ordering my proxies from for high level/tournament play? Anyone with any information on this would be very helpful and appreciated❤

Unfortunately because proxies are a playerbase thing and not an official thing, there isn't a unified answer to this question, it's up to the venue/event what is allowed and what isn't. That being said, in my limited CEDH experience, people are pretty cool about it, as long as the card is clearly printed/readable (and not obscene) that's all that most people seem to care about .
I personally highly recommend MPC, it's a bit of a process, but the Reddit/youtube have really good tutorials on how to do it, and there is an autofill website with a lot of good art to choose from (at least on most normal cards you'd be playing) and it's very cheap, relatively speaking.
All that being said though, I started with straight up printed pieces of paper that I put in sleeves on top of basic lands and my local CEDH scene was totally cool with it, so the barrier for entry is lower than a lot of people think it is!

The Saw in Half copies of Serra Ascendant would be 8/8s, not 6/6s. Half of 6/6 from the original Ascendant makes the copies' base P/T 3/3. It's hard to know how much that extra 4 damage on their first swing on Tyler would have mattered, but I doubt it affected the outcome of the game.

I'm debating whether to put Food Chain in my Bonny Pall deck that I'm planning on building. The problem is, Bonny draws cards when I attack, not on ETB.
Seeing Rowan get blown out so fast is why I don’t play Rowan anymore. Yes she’s great but she is immediately the biggest target to get rid of because of how devastating her ability is. Oh I lost 25 life this turn, I’ll tap Rowan and cast torment of hailfire where x is 25.

Turn 2 silence was a waste. Like goddamn. He cannot win turn 2 with so little anything
It absolutely can win turn two. It’s a turbo rakdos deck. I believed that he tutored for a win, or at least had the ability to present a turn three win.
Just for clarification, I thought he could have a dark rit naus in hand. And he tutored for a mana crypt. Something like that,
@@LateKnightsMTG being a turbo rakdos deck is fine, however all he presented on board was a land. Given that he had no fast mana for his turn 1, the best he could have done was to invest his resources and go from there. Even then it is better for him to attempt to go for his short turn resources and silence him mid combo so that he has expended all those resources since there is a clear payload that he would need and there is nothing he could do. The worst case scenario would be that he has dark ritual simian and a grim for a nause turn 2, however you could just wait until he uses his ad naus to silence so he loses out on all those short gains. Holding it would have been best.
@@LateKnightsMTGsure ig but couldn’t you just respond to a dark ritual forcing it to be wasted since it wouldn’t resolve until after silence then fizzle away the mana that can no long be used to cast spells?

@@LateKnightsMTG you also had every other player there to let interact with that. You were last in priority so it still would have been to your advantage to wait.
If he has naus in his hand regardless it would be better to wait while it js on the stack, wastes his instant mana and his naus by losing out on all the cards he keeps in hand preventing a naus to win and essentially becomes a worse necropotence.
