  • In this video, Om Tandon explains the concept of "modelling user experience" by describing key attributes that shape the end-user experience when interacting with a system, product, or service. This involves creating a small vertical slice of the end-to-end experience, especially during the prototyping phase. Tandon highlights the importance of considering various aspects of user experience modelling, particularly in games.
The 5E experience model in user experience design is crucial for creating an engaging and memorable user experience. The five key aspects of this model include Excitement, Entry, Engagement, Exit, and Extension. Excitement involves generating awareness and attraction to the experience, ensuring players are eager to discover and interact with the feature. Entry refers to how users access the feature, whether from the home screen or within another secondary feature. Engagement focuses on making the main activity enticing and enjoyable, avoiding repetitive tasks. Exit provides a clear indication that the task is complete, marking the end of the experience. Finally, Extension involves creating a lasting impression or recall value, ensuring users remember the experience fondly and feel accomplished. Tandon emphasizes that while designers often focus on the visible aspects-entry, task flow, and exit-they must also consider how the feature will be discovered and create anticipation for it. This includes generating excitement before the feature is launched and ensuring users have a positive recall of the experience after they have stopped interacting with it. These elements are critical for user experience models in both general UX design and specific applications like games.
