    Very nice Andy ! love the rich colour of it and it seems to be a very tactile piece as well as being functional,
    I keep bees myself or I should say I did until a couple of years ago .A mild winter did not kill any wasps off and they raided my 2 hives until the colonies colapsed
    However I'm hoping to start afresh with a new colony thisn year

    Really beautiful beehive pot, Andy! Oak is such lovely wood when turned! It is funny how people immediately associate this beaded shape with beehives... My brother is a beekeeper and we produce quite a bit of honey on the farm (except for this year, there probably won’t be ANY due to the craaaaaazy weather...) and never have I seen such a beehive basket, not even with my grandfather… The impact of children’s books… Anyway, could even be completed with a wooden honey spoon which would surely look and feel great if also turned from a small off-cut of oak… The ones you can buy are usually cheaply made… Although I would probably use it as a pen holder so I could look at it and touch it more often… As usual, great eye for proportion and harmonious shape, Andy, and a gentle touch on the lathe! Thumbssssssssss🐝 up 👍🏻😊 Bye from cold and ☔️ Switzerland 👋🏻 Take care!

    • @AndysCornishCreations
      @AndysCornishCreations  3 года назад

      Hi Jude... thank you... I'm glad that you liked it... I also like Oak... beautiful wood although it is a little prone to cracks... your farm sounds like a very interesting and productive place... the skep style beehives are ancient and I have only seen them in books and museums... they are not very practical as the colony is destroyed to get the honey out... I should have made a lid for it and perhaps a honey dipper... that would have been fun.... I agree with you about the touchy feely aspect... the piece is very tactile... thank you for your thumbsssssss up ... Haha very clever... I hope that your weather improves... I think that it may have come over here... thank you again and take care...All the best.....Andy

      @morningsong7885 3 года назад

      @@AndysCornishCreations Hi there Andy! Golly, I learn new things with you with every video! Not only vocabulary but also history! I had never questioned the procedure of honey extraction from a skep until now, but now it makes perfect sense why they are no longer in use... As for our farm, I am afraid, honey is the only thing we produce, apart from my little veggies and berries... We had to sell all cows and machinery in 1974 due to my Dad’s health issues... I was only seven back then. Hard work from a very early age on the farm and in the family business (road construction), plus he was one of the best Swiss style wrestlers of his time, all this had taken its toll on his health. We have natural spring water of mineral water quality on our land, so my Dad started a trout farm which he ran until nine years ago, plus he did heavy transports for the family business. I had helped a lot with the trout farm, but I could not take it over as it is too physically demanding for a woman alone, plus I have nursed my parents since I do not have a family of my own, plus my job of course. This is why I live in the farmhouse, but the barn is used as a workshop by my brother, and the land is let to another farmer, you see. And last year, a cousin of mine re-started the trout farm, so we have fresh trout again, and that is simply fantastic. But back to our honey pot, I was thinking about a lid, too! In my mind, I pictured it slightly domed, with a little “mouse hole entrance” type cutout for the honey dripper and a carved honeybee in the middle to lift it off... I know, don’t say it, the carved honeybee is over the top... but I am sure you’ve got it in your hands there 😉 Well… Bye for now, Andy, take care 👋🏻

    Hi again Andy,
    good job on the honey pot jar. Been keeping Bees for years and have made straw 'Skeps' that look similiar to your pot. Have/are you considering turning a lid at any stage? Followed your advice on the Liberon pale polish, great stuff, gives a nice and natural hard wearing finish.
    Keep on turning,

      Unfortunately no matter how much I try, I cannot aquire a taste for honey... I know how good it is for you but it doesn't help... one day perhaps...
      A few people have asked about making a lid ... I should give it a go and add it to the video...
      I'm glad that you liked the French polish... I have more success using it on smaller projects than say large bowls but when you get it right it gives a beautiful shine...
