Hello! Planning to try FCAT with my dog this fall. Is the catcher allowed to motivate your dog by praising the dog while running or is the dog strictly expected to chase after the plastic bag? We love doing recall games and I usually motivate my dog to run faster by saying "Good boy!" "Come on!" and I was wondering if that was allowed! Also how do you acquire points? Is it the time your dog spent running? Thank you so much this was very informational.
Thank you for this my heeler corgi mix is going to his first trial Friday and I didn't really know what to expect
Yay! So fun.
We do our first Fast Cat tomorrow, so excited. This was VERY helpful. Thank you.
That's so exciting!!
We are doing our first trial tomorrow and this video was super helpful.
Yay! I'm glad to hear it. Have a blast!
I'm just a super beginner at fast cat. This video was so informative and really helped. Thanks for making it
Who's ready to let your dog zoom, zoom, zoom?
Well done video with loads of info for folks starting out or just looking into it!
Thank you!
Thanks so much for the detailed video! I'm going to our first fun run in a few weeks with my whippet, very excited but also a little bit anxious because I've never been to an event like that.
That will be SO fun!
My dog has no prey drive but will run to me just to be with me. I read that other dogs like mine have participated with owner yelling and whatever at the end of the course to get their dog to run. I wonder if this method has failed, and what happens if your dog doesn’t run? I would love my dog to do this event as she loves to run around, but l am not sure she’ll run straight down the course. Any suggestions?
It might not be the event for your dog. I would try the following to make sure:
1. Play with a flirt pole with a toy and then a plastic bag at home.
2. Have a friend or family member hold your dog in your yard and then run to you for a treat or play.
3. Do a fun run at an event so you can walk down the middle (you can't do this in an official run). That way your dog knows the game with less pressure.
4. Let your dog watch other dogs run at fastcat at a safe distance to get the idea.
Thinking about getting my German Shepherd service dog in training involved in fastCAT when he's older. He's 11mo right now.
His dad's family is a lot of sports dogs. His great grandfather is Haryson Ad-Gur, fci 2x world ipo champion.
Thank you for the video!
Does each entry do two runs? So is it two runs in the morning and two runs in the afternoon?
Great video! My dog ran her first FastCAT yesterday. Looking forward to more.
So fun!!
Question about the AKC number: my dog is a rescue, not registered. She has competed in Barn Hunt and has her Barn Hunt number, but for Fast Cat we had to get a different AKC number? Did I make a mistake? Should it be the same number?
@rjsams001 nope, you did it correctly. While you can add barn hunt titles to your AKC account (for an additional fee) they are separate organizations/registrations.
First Fast cat this weekend ❤
Thank you for this video!!! I'm excited to try fastcat but also nervous. I have a question -- how does it work if I'm the one catching my dog? Do I just walk down the line while she's being held by my release person? Am I allowed to call to her while she's running? I have a prey driven but very clingy whippet!
For a fun run (scoring won't count), you can walk down the middle. For a real run, you'll need to walk outside of the lure area. You can call her name, but not a formal recall like "come!". Based on her being clingy, I'd recommend doing a fun run or two first.
I recently got curious about this sport and would like to try it with my Dalmatian mix. She has a prey drive and loves to run and chase.
Do it!
Thanks for the great video. I'm new, but have a Corgi puppy who loves chasing plastic bags! I can't wait for her to be eligible, and now I feel comfortable entering an event when the time comes.
Yay! That's going to be very fun for you both.
Thank you so much for making this video! Exactly what I was looking for. Very informative
Yay! Glad it was helpful.
Wonderful video! Thank you! I love your clarity and passion.
You are so very welcome.
Thanks for this great video! Tons of great information. Where's that link to the list of fastest dogs by breed? Thanks!

Thank you for putting this video together!
You are most welcome!
I love this video! Thank you! Lots of great information, I think it answered all my questions.
Yay! I'm so glad.
Great video for a newbie!!! I now have the confidence to go to our first event next month!!!
I'm happy to hear that! I hope you'll update me on how much you have.
Are BCATs, DCATS, and FCATs accomplished within that year? Or over the dogs lifetime?
Great question. Over the dog's lifetime.
Gotcha! Thank you! Congrats to Norby on his FCAT!
Our dog wears a GPS tracker that lays pretty flat to his collar. That should be OK wouldn’t it? It looks like you can tape up tags and it’s really not bigger than that.
I think you are correct.
How do you train for this? I’m worried he’s not going to run but he’s obsessed with playing fetch so it’s probably not anything I actually need to worry about right?
Have you played with a flirt pole? You won't really know until you attend an event since some dogs think chasing a bag is silly.
@@CanineCountryAcademy I had to google what that was lol. Sure I could make one to see his interest. Guess we’ll find out on Saturday lol. A lot of money on registration fees and gas not to know for sure if he’ll even do it.
@@MyWayofEverything it's all about the experience. I look forward to a full report.
I never did any training for my dog, she just really likes recall
THANK YOU!!
i have a 21 week old toy fox terrier who i want to get into this! he isn’t show quality as he is on the smaller size and his tail is too long but he LOVES chasing things n has a high toy drive!
Awww...sounds like a great little dog!
I love FCat! One of my girls just earned our first BCAT! ❤
Woo hoo! It's just the beginning. Congratulations!
What is the difference between FCAT and BCAT? How essentially does it work for your dog to graduate to a new level? Number if points earned then you love up?
I have a Brittany and we love to go kicksledding in the winter. We have fairly long and cold winters here, so kicksledding is a perfect way to keep my pup happy and active in the winter season, and get us both out of the house. I would love to find out if there is a fast cat club in my city. Thanks for the video!
That sounds so fun! We do dryland mushing here in Georgia. Yes, even my Toy Fox Terrier.
Let me know if you do get to try Fast Cat.
Thank you for all your information on Fcat. We just registered for our first run next month. I'm excited to see what he can do.
Awesome! You are most welcome.
Can you attach your own lure?
No, that would not be allowed.
To improve your dogs time, try pushing them at the start line, totally approved by the AKC, search Winston-Bolt’s 2023 invitational run
I don't recommend it since some dogs will find that offensive or off-balance.
