Very cool! The only thing is that the sound of the explosion at such a distance should be delayed. I think it would further enhance the feeling of impending disaster. Thanks for the tutorial!
@@videostarts could you provide a couple of examples, please, since it's 99%? Because in my experience it's highly common that the sound and the wave are delayed.
One small additional observation: it is not entirely unlikely that the shockwave would arrive BEFORE one can hear the impact. Or at the very least, at that distance, the sound would arrive several noticeable seconds later! In the shot, the sound comes instantaneously with the impact. For me, that’s a very important aspect of not only realism but also “impact INTENSIFIES!” Since all hell breaks loose the moment the shockwave actually arrives. Before then, it’s basically all silent.
In the commecnts they told us, they didnt want realism just hollywood micheal bay vibe " Normally I'd agree, but we weren't going for realism with this one, we were going for that over the top Hollywood Michael Bay vibe."
I know you ran out of time on this one, and what you did manage to achieve looks amazing, but the only thing I think would sell this even better is if the the sound was appropriately delayed because you know, speed of sound vs speed of light
I'm disappointed in you Film Riot. I was hoping for a brand new asset pack for black Friday. But you didn't want my money... I'm just kidding, you guys are the best. 🔥 You're my new dad. Can't wait to watch the video after work
Just saw Josh's wedding ring? Is Josh married now?? 😁 Me too! It's crazy watching creators I grew up with moving on with their lives. Awh, beautiful ☺️
Once again AWESOME job!! I learn so much from you guys, thanks so much! Willing to be y'all have some great ideas for something to do with those reported drone sightings over New Jersey that have been in the news. Happy Holidays and Cheers!
I LOVE where audio technology is going. Not only do these mics look great, DaVinci’s new audio isolation cleans up audio that would have been deemed unusable before.
They look so much better than those massive Rode boxes that everyone uses; I always felt they were distracting and unsightly flapping around on a subject's shirt
I really enjoy the ability to compose in After Effects. Everything is great except the glitch, it looks cheap and generic but I understand that it is used to hide a cut.
my favorite youtube channel please consider turning justin to green lantern re creating the suit transformation and the energy absorption effect that the ring has
It would have been more realistic if the sound has been a few seconds later, as sound travels slower than light. It's like when we see a lightning from afar, the sound usually reaches our ears after a few seconds later.
Yeah, we have done this with other distant explosion episodes, but here we were going for that over the top Michael Bay version, not the realistic version.
@@filmriot Alright. But if Michael Bay-ean explosion is what you're going for, the explosion itself should still look and feel realistic, especially when it comes to the way the explosion moves, as I believe a lot of explosions in Michael Bay's movies used real explosives, even if they made the saturation dimmer in the post-production. I'm not saying it looks bad in any way. I'm saying that it doesn't feel that realistic, and attaching it to the Michael Bay's style of explosion doesn't seem fitting either.
Please film riot give me the explosion pack cuz im broke and i want to participate in a competition and using that explosion assets i want to create a stunning video so i get the money and that could help me alot.
I hate cgi and I hate the explanation behind it even more. It's so soulless and boring, making films by spreadsheets and graphs. Practical effects and their explanations will always be more interesting.

@@filmriotbut in this case I think that the delay on the sound would be something else. Brings more sense of adrenaline and strength of the explosion
@@jonatas.yea they just can’t accept the mistake lmao

SOLID compositing and that practical end *chef's kiss*
Blending the dirt was 'chefs kiss'
Oh my god, this brings me back 15 years ago to the "meteor crash" tutorial from video copilot.
Thanks for the memories and the amazing new tutorial.
I was about to say the same thing. It's a shame Andrew Kramer quit supporting After Effects. His tutorials were great.
@@williamcousert he did? really? why?
I remember those days Sam was his fave actor/stunt/sidekick
This is WAY better than most movie explosions :-) the practical effects sold it for me :-)
Best opening ever for film riot
Thanks!
Sensational results! Love it 🔥 🎥👌

Shure MoveMic!! Great audio system!!
If I've learned anything from Corridor Crew it's that explosion should be way brighter - it's way too orange and should be partially clipping instead
That was so cool! Love the stylistic Hollywood look

Glowing an upside-down copy to use as a stabilised lens flare is a GENIUS move
Awesome work all-round. Impressive you were able to pull it off with a front-facing phone camera.
So boom fx + mic review = boom mic 😆 lol goood stuff gents!
I would love to see a comparison between the Blackmagic camera app and Filmic Pro app
Lovin' the sweater Ryan! Happy holidays!

Damn guys! What a fantastic video. You guys have come a loooooong way since I started watching back in 2011. 👍👍
Pls do more like this, this is awesome

this is the best tutorial i ever seen
Outstanding!
Just a minor feedback, there should be a delay in the explosion sound....
Have a look at Oppenheimer.
For realism, I totally agree. But we were going for the over the top Michael Bay of it all.
@filmriot 😂😂😂😂
0:12 I like how justin turned and looked at the it like a T-rex in every prehistoric asteroid hit artwork.
Cool clip! As a gardener, use caution blowing potting soil out of a bag at actors. Look up legionnaires disease.

The explosion grew very quickly.
'Ok no cursing'.......proceeds non stop cursing hahahah
Why are you using filmic pro over the Blackmagic app?
Awsome

Unrealistic. Sound should've come with a delay :)) Love you guys!!!
Better explosion than Oppenheimer

I wish we could have chat
Thanks for the detailed tutorial on this.
I couldn't enjoy the final presentation because of mute
First off!! The sound would not reach you from that distance for a few seconds, sound was COMPLETELY OFF.
We tried the realistic approach, but it was making the overall less cool. So we went with a cooler more unrealistic version. :)
Touch some grass
I love you guys. But an explosion dropping on people with whts currently happening in the world is crazy
While I enjoyed this, I really miss long tutorials of Andrew Kramer.
Lack of 32-bit float recording and no recording directly to the mic as a back up is a bit disappointing.

Glitch effect doesn't feel good
This is more on the mic than the effect
Well, that was rather dramatic...but okay! Hahaha.
