Hi Jennifer! Thank you so much for responding! You've got a few thousand viewers wondering about your life and what became of you. I'm copying here what you wrote on my comment in hopes that more people see it: [Jennifer Lane wrote:] "House burnt down in 1980, we moved down to the lower ranch. But most the animals were up there until 1985. Parents built the gas station in 1983. Sold everything in 1992. Unfortunately I would have liked to have kept some of the land. So peaceful and quiet. My happy place."
Where was the gas station? What ultimately made your folks sell everything? Anything you care to share would be appreciated by the readers here. Wishing you most well.

My sisters and I spread our parents' ashes there because they said it was the happiest time of their life, that concrete structure behind that shack was part of a house that was burnt down from a fireplace fire, and ever since then our mother hated fireplaces, she would even cover fireplaces so she didn't have to see it.

I graduated from HS in 1970. People disappearing from society to "find themselves" was not unusual. At that time, hippies and communes were everywhere, along with folkes trying to escape Vietnam and the draft. Most Interstates were still under construction. Some of my college friends had hitchhiked across country. That's how most attendees got to Woodstock! Almost all the audience and band members were teenagers and early 20s. Most soldiers in Vietnam were teenagers drafted right out of high school. Very different times.

Rodney died in 2005 at the age of 55, according to an article that I read. However, if he was born in 1948, then that does not mathematically make sense either. I think it was just a typo because he was born September 2 and died September 10 so he would’ve been 57 years of age. “Mr. Lane and his wife owned and operated Miller’s Market in Gardnerville, Nev. and the Pony Express Café in Minden, Nev.” according to the obituary.

These old abandoned places have an air of melancholy, sadness and despair. Obviously a lot of work went into it but in the end it just became too hard and they had to leave. It doesn't take long for vandals and scavengers to find them and proceed to steal everything worth a nickel and smash everything else. They are interesting places to visit and walk around wondering who lived there and what happened to them.

I had a 5 day R&R from Vietnam in the Philippines in 1967. One other soldier and I hired a car and driver (A white '51 Chevy and a man who had survived the Japanese occupation in WW2. He had nothing good to say about them). We took a boat across Subic Bay to Corregidor island and went on a tour. Many of the big guns were still there. He also took us to an old Spanish fort used as a prison by the Japanese. He took us to several very good hotels and bars in Manila. I met a very nice girl named Glory Diaz. She lived at 5226 Hayes St. Makatti, (Hakatti?) Rizal. She'd be an old lady now. I often wondered what became of her. I hope she had a good life. I liked her very much.

The ranch dates from after the 1872 owens valley earthquake.
The ground movement caused a spring at the site that was on the south end of the fault line displacement.
i live in Ridgecrest and have been to the ranch a few times don't remember anyone living there.
though i know that a number of consturcion workers camped in there motorhomes around the area when they were building the Coso Geothermo plants They are on the navy base on a road from Coso Junction.

Geez wonder hussy is there anything you’re not good at? I was impressed with your knowledge of geomorphology on display today and I’m sure their rent rest of the story is just as interesting as the part you already shared with us. But i don’t need a story to be in awe of the views in all directions and the golden colors of falls last breath clinging from the trees to:-) more please !

I know where you are. The best day to be there is WEDS! 5 different military bases come screaming through that valley. On really clear days you can see in flight refuling 1000s of feet above you. At least they don't bomb there like the Chocolate Mountains

Your strange (yet delightful) wit and creativity are second to none. Hopefully millions figure out what they are missing if they do not watch your content. (To the potential new watchers): look past the hairy arm pits or other possible hang ups. This woman is clever and hard to pause/stop her videos and look away. Even though we will probably never meet in person, I enjoy knowing you through here. Stay strong and don’t ever let 1 person put you down.

Talk about living off grid. The lack of luxuries and money had to be so hard. My daughter lived off grid in her twenties in N Cali being a union sheep herder. It wasn't easy but she got a taste of living off grid. You are exactly right. It wasn't an easy life. Hope you enjoyed seeing your fam.

Sarah as a big fan of yours I always love the historical research you put into your travels and also the way you tell your stories when there is no history behind these places. I am fourth generation Nevadan and I love the stories you tell from your travels across northern Nevada since I know the real stories and have lived in many of the towns you visited. I have to say for the most part you are pretty accurate. I always enjoy your travels through eastern California and western Nevada and northern Nevada as well. You are awesome Sarah, keep it up. Hope to see you come through my area on your way to BM next August. Love ya Sarah!🤗👍😍
