Channel Ten had good coverage of the NSWRL in the 1980s and early 1990s.

After Channel Ten lost the tv rights at the end of 1991, Hughes called the Winfield Cup and State of Origin matches for TVNZ during 1992-94 (as well as the mid-year RL test series for Channel 7 during 1992-93), before being the main caller for Auckland Warriors matches during 1995 (TVNZ), and 1997-2000 (Sky Sports NZ).
Complete, wasted talent being on 2SM's Talkin' Sport radio show these days. He's still got it as a commentator, as shown a few years ago when he called a couple of NRL matches for Fox Sports during Retro Round.
