She even reprised her role of the Borg Queen in Borg Invasion 4D when Star Trek The Experience was at the Las Vegas Hilton, and she voiced her for an episode on Lower Decks.
First Contact is easily the best Star Trek film and also entertained non Trekkie folks. I watched it recently and there isn't a single dull or flabby scene in the whole film. The characters all had space, the story was top Trek, and the music perfect. More of that please.
25 years isn't that much. I remember watching the original Star Trek with Captain Kirk, before the reruns. I can't believe that it has been 60+ years since the first episode was broadcast. Perhaps I love Star Trek because it still gives me hope that we still have a chance to make things better -- and that we will make it to the 22nd century and beyond. Hate to sound corny, but I hope we all can "Live Long and Prosper."
Any time I see Alfre Woodard I think of my oldest son who is 30 now. He loved the line from Lily when she is pointing a phaser rifle at Picard and says basically,"if I don't get some answers I am going to start pushing buttons". My son used to quote that a lot. lol Then he would say, "it's my first ray gun". Great memories.
Jerry Goldsmith was a musical genius. His score for Star Trek 1 and 5 are amazing too. The theme Goldsmith used for when Sybok leads Kirk on the desert planet near the end of #5 is probably some the most beautiful music he’s ever written. And Voyager’s opening theme was also written by Goldsmith. It’s a masterpiece.
When they were talking about why it became the fan favourite that it did, I also thought of the score. The score, combined with the story and the acting, made it the classic it has become. Props to the writers and Jerry Goldsmith!!
Jonathan Frakes is such an amazing director. For “First Contact” to be his first feature film, it’s astonishing. That film nailed it on so many levels, it’s now a classic. And not only for the movie to have a cast of elite actors, but for all of them to create memorable characters in the Trek franchise... it’s really a testament to Frakes as a leader. I wish every future Star Trek movie was directed by him. If I were Paramount, I would be signing Jonathan Frakes right now to a massive deal. He gets it. And that’s a rare thing.
And for all the flak that Insurrection gets, it is a brilliant Trek film that nails the humor and the heart of the franchise. It also features the best performances of the Next Gen cast as their characters, IMO, and all of those things are down to Frakes.
Roddenberry had many private meetings with Frakes and Stewart while he lived to ensure they understood his vision of Star Trek.Certainly Frakes has been faithful to Gene's ideas and should be Directing all he wants. His non-Trek Feature film "Clock stoppers" was a good early effort aimed at a young audiences and it wouldl be great to see him direct something aimed at more mature viewers.I also fondly recall the first home-made video of the Next Generation cast taken before they ever started filming as they all sat at a dinner table.Jonathan Frakes proposed a toast that went "Here's to the new crew of the Enterprise that they be just as successful as the previous ones!".Even then he was showing his leadership abilities and obviously it all came to be !!!
Insurrection is a great ST film. I never understood the hate for it. Brilliant performances, a 'Federation as bad guy' story, romance, humour... fav after First Contact.
This is SO COOL and AWESOME! The Borg Queen, Data, Picard and Riker all pretending like they are regular citizens on earth! Glad to see Alice! She is legendary within the Borg!
Sadly none of my friends at the time were fans and I wasn’t going to go on my own so I had to wait for it to come to out on video. Worth the wait though. It’s my favourite Trek movie.
@@kevin_1230 You must mean Christmas 1997, because the movie hit theaters on November 22, 1996 but wasn't released on VHS until November 4, 1997. (And I vividly remember anxiously awaiting that VHS release.)

I remember taking my 3 boys to the theater to see this movie when it came out. 3 boys who never been to a movie theater and big time Star Trek fans who owned every Next Generation show. My youngest boy being Autistic and having behavior issues sat with his brothers as they all saw it on the big screen with eyes wide open in Awe of the sounds and the characters coming to life on the big screen! What a great Movie! And to this day they still remember that day! MY Autistic son to this day watches First Contact every day! Best Star Trek movie Ever!
Poor Brent! I have that same terror of heights, I can only imagine what it took for him to have to do that drop not only once but TWICE! I can't even stand on a step-stool without my heart dropping to my toes, that would give me a heart attack. I have much more love for Spiner now than I did before!
This movie generated the most goosebump moments of any Trek movie, and most of those moments are about the acting. The ending still gets me misty.... I truly enjoyed Wil Wheaton interviewing the cast. As an actor, he knew exactly what to ask and how to ask.
Great get-together, wonderful memories of a time when Star Trek movies were absolutely amazing. Unlike the movies that followed by JJ, which lacked everything the TNG movies had: Great writing, wonderful set design, brilliant costumes and a consistent universe that was based on Gene Roddenberrys utopia. It's sad that Star Trek like that is no more.
Picard has probably the best character development i can think when it comes to any form of theater, most have a passing moment of trauma which they overcome and Picard does as well but that character remained changed from it throughout the series and movies and not just of the borg abduction, the death of his family in a fire and if you think about it he started with the trauma of losing his friend who was Crushers Husband which i believe remained and what prevented him from following his apparent attraction to crusher and of course his guilt for the death of DATA. I don't think an average actor could of carried all that so its a real privilege to witness throughout the years
F.C. has been broadcast over the past few nights on the Paramount (Plus?) channel, I realized that it will be 25 years since a couple of my friends (who are really Star Wars fans, but who decided to humor me for an evening) and I saw it in the movie theatres in November of 1996. About halfway through, we were all in awe because of how well its storyline transcended the Star Trek franchise, that it really was much more than simply another Trekker sci-fi film, taking elements of action, drama, historical fiction, as well as the human condition into its script. Certainly one of the best Star Trek films produced.
This was my all time favourite Star Trek film. Can't believe I went to the cinema here in the UK 25 years ago ,where has the year gone. Watched it so many times since on DVD. Loved the music too. 👍😀

Will Wheaton has sure matured into a great speaker and interviewer.I first saw him when he was about 12 years old playing the leed in Stephen King's "Stand by me" a successful, critically acclaimed Rob Reiner(Meathead) film. With a strong ensemble cast including the late Phoenix River and Corey Feldman,it was great to see him win the role of Wesley Crusher as he always seemed to be the best dramatic actor of his Generation.Never will forget the scene when he held a pistol aimed at A teenage hood played by a young Kiefer Sutherland.A very tense stand off brought to life by his great acting !!!
That summer I saw Star Trek First Contact was the same summer I bought my 1970 Chevelle! Very memorable summer! I bet I've seen this movie a thousand times, great movie, this is one of my favorite Star Trek movies!
Wonderful to see you all in good health and I do have this movie in my DVD collection of Star Trek. MY BEST WISHES that you stay well in this time in history. Thanks for sharing
Sir Patrick Stewart and Alice Krige both experienced Shakespearian actors especially from the Royal Shakespeare Company in the same film and doing a scene together towards the end is an iconic moment to treasure forever
"First Contact" is my favourite Star Trek movie of all time, if only the "Picard" series could bring back the same level of storytelling, the smart dialogues, the atmosphere of events, the principles established by Gene Roddenberry, the character development, the relationships between the characters, the emotions that they go through and overcome them with a hopeful, resourceful attitude, it would be wonderful, I am still hoping, I love Star Trek, I love Picard, Riker, Data, Geordi, Deanna, (even her mother) and everyone else! Happy 25th Anniversary!
They truly developed into a new incarnation of the ST family. The warmth & ease between the characters is evident even tho they're acting. Remember Gene HATED the idea of a Shakespearean - trained, English accented actor as captain? The one real wrong instinct he had was about the amazing Patrick Stewart, who came to define the Captain, IMO.
first contact was very much an action movie. I don't think they should try to recreate that with Picard. he shouldn't be yelling about revenge and running around in a tank top. first contact is a very fun movie and I like it but they should not try to recreate it now
It's the best TNG film. A worthy follow-up to "The Best of Both Worlds". Good strong storyline - and great performances from Stewart, Spiner and Alice Krige. Great character moments as well : Picard and Lily, Riker and Cochrane, Data and Borg Queen, Picard's fight with Worf on the bridge. Good action set pieces as well : spaceship battles, Borg in the holodeck, the spacewalk fight on the deflector dish, etc. I saw in the cinema and got the VHS.

OMG.... 25 years went by so quickly? Am I growing old? No, I am becoming more ...classic! I have to confess. Seen TOS when it was first aired in Germany, in 1972...(black and white TV)...
I remember seeing the NBC peacock at the beginning of Walt Disney Wonderful World of Color. The announcer would say.....brought to you in living color.....pretty sure that was in 1964. I’m a bit foggy....it was over 55 years ago and I was in 7th grade. Seems like yesterday. Bizzare-o-Rama!
My favorite ST film. Here is some extraordinary unknown trivia about First Contact. First contact will be in the year 2063 in Bozeman Montana with the flight of the Phoenix, a former Titan 2 missile in Bozeman. In reality, the Phoenix in the film was based on the only surviving Titan 2 missile out of over 50 which is currently the Titan Missile museum near Tucson. Missile Scenes in the film were filmed at the museum. The Titan Missile Museum sits on Meridian 111 which passes through Bozeman over 900 miles north. That meridian also passes through a small peak in the center of two large peaks that dominate the south Bozeman skyline. It s an amazing phenomenon fit for the best of the best of Star Trek.
Alice Krige originally hails from South Africa. She has Amazing talent and she is my hero. I was scared out of my skin when she came on screen. Sassy actress. Love the video. Tx !
It’s no doubt one of the best Star Trek Movies. Jonathan truly told a story and used all the Borg elements and continuation from TNG. It was well directed indeed. Jonathan is such a great director.
First Contact is great, but... I really want to see what the TNG crew fighting the Borg with swords during the Italian Renaissance would have looked like. That would just make my life complete.
According to Braga and Moore Sir Patrick was not keen at all to get back into a pair of RSC style tights. Feature commentary from the writers on the FC BD reveals this.
Since they are celebrating the best TNG movie, I wonder, if this movie was successful finanicially, why didn't they ask Frakes to also come back as Director?
I saw it in theaters, and it remains one of the few films I know every line of by heart. And just wow how great were Alfre Woodard, Alice Krige, and James Cromwell to a long time ensemble cast!!
I loved generations when I was 5 or 6 years old but when you go back and watch it now it's pretty hard to get through. first contact is the only next generation movie I would recommend
I spent about 45 minutes with Frakes at a paging (yes, paging) conference that my client was putting on, and Frakes was the guest host/speaker. We talked about all things Star Trek, including my telling him how to get to the card game on the Next Gen pinball machine. At one point he turned to the woman in the show floor booth we were in and said (about me) "He really does know a lot about this stuff!" He was leaving the conference to go for pre-production on the movie, and towards the end of our conversation, he asked me what I'd like to see in the upcoming movie. I was stunned and honored. I have no memory of what I asked for, but it was an amazing moment for me.
For me First Contact is the best of all Star Trek movies. Especially in the original english version. the translated german version is not comparable. "And he piled upon the whales white hump,...." just epic!
I loved the film and have been to the cinema several times. I was/am a big Data fan. But in this movie I was incredibly fascinated by the Borg Queen. As later I was very happy about her return. You have done a very very good job and this work has shaped me very much. Thank you for that!
This was great fun! Thank you! I am fortunate that a baby sitter let me stay up to watch TOS on TV while my parents were out. And I have seen every series and movie since then.
@@Vindix007 Tom Hanks did try out for the role of Zefram Cochrane, but couldn't do it because he was directing and starring in the movie That Thing You Do.
Speaking of humor I liked it when Cochran was getting spooked and ran off. He says, "I don't want to be a statue". Riker says to Laforge,"You told him about the statue?" lol
Excited!! Thank you for putting this reunion together. We watched this on April 5 and it not only holds up to 2021, it's themes are so on point. Just as a stand alone movie, it's excellent.
Back in the 1990's, I bought First Contact on dvd, from H M V. For £11.99p. on the dvd were the film, the trailer, and an exclusive interview with Alice Krige, about what it was like playing the Borg Queen. And she was being interviewed by the LCARS system! I'd love to see that interview again.
7:45 "I feel that way about my character on Star Trek." After hearing the host said that, I googled his name because I don't recognize him at all. Then I found that he's Wesley. Mind blown.
Frakes will always be a legend for directing First Contact.
Basically both first officers Spock and Riker directed two of the best Trek movies.

Tx !
This was one of the best movie experiences I ever had.
Love the movie - can't believe its been 25 years!
It’s no doubt one of the best Star Trek Movies. Jonathan truly told a story and used all the Borg elements and continuation from TNG. It was well directed indeed. Jonathan is such a great director.
One of the best movie in the franchise. I would like to see more of the lore in the late 21st century. This was not enough in my eyes.
Thank you for the trek down memory lane...
The scenery of the series and movies rings true whenever you grace us with appearances...
First Contact is great, but...
I really want to see what the TNG crew fighting the Borg with swords during the Italian Renaissance would have looked like. That would just make my life complete.
I agree
Hahaha as an Italian i really laughed at this, very funny what frakes said
I think I would prefer seeing Lincoln fighting Kahless and Genghis Khan again, tbh.
I liked the performance of James Cromwell as Zefram Cochrane
Currently in the process of watching TNG season 3: was shocked to see him play another character in "The hunted". ^^
he appeared in season 6 as well as in a DS9 ep. very versatile actor
@@werideatdusk Yep, so I was told/spoiled by IMDB 😆
Generations came across as a TV show whereas First Contact was a pure cinematic move
I really liked generations and nemesis. Insurrection was not so good.
Generations for the story...
First Contact for the visuals...
(love them both...)
I actually really like Generations.
I loved generations when I was 5 or 6 years old but when you go back and watch it now it's pretty hard to get through. first contact is the only next generation movie I would recommend
There's not a scene in this movie that they wasted. It's a perfect film.
🤣 it's so far from perfect, especially in the story but it's a fun action movie
"Cannot shoot the dish, ship'll explode."
*shoots dish 1 min later*
I like a lot of the Star Trek movies, and First Contact is my favourite Star Trek movie by a country mile.
For me First Contact is the best of all Star Trek movies. Especially in the original english version. the translated german version is not comparable. "And he piled upon the whales white hump,...." just epic!
Oh look, my favorite Star Trek movie.
Love First Contact. The Borg Queen is a brilliant character played by Alice Krige.
BTW, Wil is looking/sounding terrific! :)
What?! 1st Contact was 25 years ago?!! Man, I feel old!
Usually, I hate going on about how things used to be better. But with Star Trek it's definitely the case 😬 Great people in this talk!
Too bad they didn't get James Cromwell to do an interview for his role as Zefram Cochrane
Fun Fact: Tom Hanks missed out on playing Zefram Cochrane.
@@Vindix007 Tom Hanks did try out for the role of Zefram Cochrane, but couldn't do it because he was directing and starring in the movie That Thing You Do.
Well, Wil fackin’ nailed it & Sir Patrick & Frakes very much agreed, as ‘Picard’ has shown, to this day/week.
This is not just a Great Star Trek Film but a Great Film. My only complaint about the Trek films is that DS9 didn`t get a turn.
Still the best of the TNG movies
absolutely
No doubt
unfortunately it's the only good TNG movie
@@djangofett4879 that is also true😂. it’s sad how they missed the mark so bad with the other tng films
Speaking of humor I liked it when Cochran was getting spooked and ran off. He says, "I don't want to be a statue". Riker says to Laforge,"You told him about the statue?" lol
Literally the best thing on RUclips! This brings me so much joy!
Excited!! Thank you for putting this reunion together. We watched this on April 5 and it not only holds up to 2021, it's themes are so on point. Just as a stand alone movie, it's excellent.
l was engulfed with every bit ,with First Contact. Great movie.
The score was awesome, the special effects still hold up, Worfs humor added a lot. I'd say this movie is just as good as Wrath of Khan
Johnatan seems such a nice guy! Very professional and easy going to work with
Alice Krige has barely aged! She still looks fantastic.
When Star Trek was fun, well written, made sense and tried to tell a meaningful story..
i cant belive brent said people didnt like the emotion chip. i loved it. seeing data dealing with emotions he didnt understand was fantastic.
7:45 "I feel that way about my character on Star Trek."
After hearing the host said that, I googled his name because I don't recognize him at all. Then I found that he's Wesley. Mind blown.
The best of the 'Next Gen' Star Trek movies. Thoroughly enjoyed seeing this at the cinema.
i'M no longer a Star Wars fan because of Disney... but i am still a proud fan of ST TNG and Picard series too, thank you!
