Emotional intelligence is the ability to recognize one’s own emotions and handle interpersonal situations in an empathetic manner. The Prophet SAW was a master at this skill. He would navigate social situations in a way where it would always make the other party feel better about themselves. What does it mean to be intelligent? Immediately we may think of figures like Albert Einstein and those who possess a genius-level IQ. People who have committed much to memory and have brains like computers. Yet today, this traditional understanding of intelligence has taken a major shift - whereby those who have excelled in their IQ are being overshadowed by those who have mastered the EQ. Emotional Intelligence. Today we are joined with Shaykh Mikaeel Ahmed Smith, a teacher at Qalam Seminary in Texas, and author of the book “With the heart in mind - the moral and emotional intelligence of the Prophet ﷺ”. I mainly hear about Islam from people from other religions who do research on Islam and present their thoughts based on the facts that they discovered while carrying out their research and also what part of Islam did interest them. For example, the speaker just mentioned about humans living in a sphere of existential nihilism and have parts of their humanity carved off into nothing slowly pushing them into a void. I really learn a lot from here. This is the real philosophy, not knowledge based on typical thoughts (things everyone already know) and those that promote atheism like those of Nietzsche, Dawkins, so on.
