Flash forward a few days, the teacher asks me what’s going on in all the pictures and I just cheerfully reply it’s ‘a scene from a my little pony video I saw!’ And she looked very concerned and explained how I can’t be showing pictures of ponies being literally mutilated to other kids and I was so confused bc I thought everyone liked gore/rainbow factory stuff but I was VERY disappointed she, the next day, the book was no longer in the pile of student books 💔💔💔

47:07 its weirdly comforting to see someone with a similar experience as me? • @AqueerianLeo

This happened to me too, it was so awful for my mental health to be seeing dark things i didn't fully understand and feel like it was completely inappropriate to ask questions about it, like I had a dark secret at the age of 9
I'm glad mlp helped a lot of men reject toxic masculinity and embrace something traditionally undervalued for being girly, but there's no arguing a lot of really sick minded people became so prevalent in the community, and most of them did not care if children saw their nsfw/gore creations (and most predators WANT children to find it)
At the very least my experience has given me hindsight, and I try to educate my younger siblings and hopefully future children about these dangerous internet circles. Especially since it seems to have transferred over into RUclips kids animations.

I was horribly traumatized by the brony community.
As a young artist, I was often encouraged by adults, who knew I was a minor, to draw NSFW content of ponies, both of the characters in the show and of their ocs. I was told this kind of content was okay for me to be exposed too, and these adults would pay me lots of money and tip me well for doing so.
I ended up "dating" 2 pedophiles in the brony community due to this, they both took advantage of me as an underage person and it was sickening.
The fandom was very clique-y too, especially the art community. You were bullied horrendously if you didn't fit to the "horse famous" standards or if you didn't get along with someone with a popular OC.
I had a neglectful mother who didn't care what I was doing online, or just didn't care about me, she knew I was dating adults and still didn't care. So my mother is partly to blame for the trauma I experienced.
I'll never forget my time in the brony fandom, it set me up for the art business I have now, but it also gave me permanent, negative affects on my brain development as a child

Bad for the VS community, but... after seeing videos like this, I knew that Ben was... onto something.
And then Twilight vs Raven happened, and Twilight's death in the video was offscreen and no gore at all.

I looked at a lot of gore when I was younger partially thanks to cupcakes. I like drawing it now too, yet it sometimes still gets under my skin. I don’t get why my brain is now simultaneously freaked out and fascinated by it, but I can trace to where it started, which is cupcakes. The song from that video will sometimes make me freeze in my tracks, which is just stupid, but the brain is stupid.
I love mlp, both g4 and g5, they mean a lot to me, but I recognize they messed me up. I originally put a comment here but I think RUclips deleted due to its graphic language, so I’m going to make another one that isn’t as graphic so it doesn’t get deleted by RUclips.
While I wasn’t in the Brony fandom, the Pokémon fandom was just as traumatic. Not in the Creepypasta area luckily, though I do remember the pictures and sprites associated with Hypno’s lullaby and Buried Alive scaring me when I was a kid, Hypno was just so uncanny in the artwork and the sprite of Buried Alive dragging the player character into the ground creeped me out as a kid. Thank Goodness I didn’t listen to the Hypno’s Lullaby song and didn’t listen to the audio of Buried Alive because that would’ve caused a lot more sleepless nights.
No the most traumatic part of the Pokémon was the google image searching. You couldn’t google any Pokémon without weird DeviantArt art or hard core stuff coming up. Thank goodness I always found these images gross otherwise I don’t know what weird tastes I would’ve gotten or what addiction I could’ve been struggling with.
When watching you’re iceberg videos on Gen Z childhood trauma, I thought I was lucky because I didn’t see most of the stuff on the iceberg and didn’t get traumatised by the horror or gorey stuff on the internet. But now actually thinking about it, I think my trauma was just as graphic as everyone else, just in a different way. I might make a video about the trauma I got from the Pokémon community since it’s not really a talked about issue. It’d also be cool if you did a video on it but I understand if you don’t want to do it to preserve your mental health. Take care.
This comment originally went into more graphic detail about the things I saw but I think it got deleted by RUclips because of its graphic nature, so I toned it down so it didn’t get deleted a second time. Sorry for this long rant about the Pokémon community.

What's even more sad is that they "inspired" some of the younger audience they traumatized to continue the trend of trauma which just is horrible. Sure, kids shouldn't be online, but adults are actively invading kid content and distorting it which is just... wrong. They publicly post these demented things and the only excuse people have is "it's the internet lol." I'm fine with NSFW when it's in a proper place AWAY from the public. I don't care if people see me as a karen, it's how I feel and I don't EVER want my kid to go through what I had to with the internet. Kids deserve safe spaces free of exploitation.

Regarding the point about parenting and shielding your kids away from inappropriate content, in my case, I remember a few times when me or my sister got caught by our parents for having inappropriate stuff on our devices, but I only remember because of their reaction which, retrospectively, traumatised us more than the inappropriate content itself. They berated and punished us severely. In the end, it didn't change anything, only taught us to hide things better and carry a lot of self-hatred and guilt for something that *they* were supposed to protect us from. I just hope my parents could have handled the situation better because now it's hard to trust them with anything for fear of their reactions...

@tennojichuu7770 yeah, I'll admit after a good portion of clips I had to click off the video.
The clips just reminded me and put salt in my old wound of not liking when innocent things get tortured and mutilated
This is also the reason I don't care for happy tree friends or whatever it's called the violence just makes my stomach hurt and upsets me.
Although I can watch something like Blue Eye Samurai and be mostly fine though because at least then the violence doesn't seem to come from a twisted place , if that makes sense

Agreed! For me the Cupcakes one stuck with me from the time that I was younger to now… To say that I had a bad impression of the Brony Fandom would be an understatement.
I had to cover my eyes when he was showing the censored footage of the animation. Yes it was censored, yes it was a small amount of footage, and yet it evoked this full body experience of disgust and mortification.
It’s not as if I’m unfamiliar with it, far from it. It may just be the association with the loss of innocence with that video. When I was younger, seeing those types of morbid Brony animations kind of permanently ruined my love and perception of Pinky Pie and the show itself, unfortunately.

The sad thing is, there wasn't a single video I didn't watch as a kid. I was actually obsessed with Banned from Equestria, and it's true that it led to me having a "high s3x drive" as a kid, and I've developed kinks that aren't typical from all my exposure. I remember watching Banned from Equestria at around 8-10 years old (my memories are jammed from before middle school) and I would feel so weird (which now, I realize that was an arousal feeling). I knew what I was watching was bad, but always rewatched uploads on youtube, I lied once to my mom saying I was watching scary shows on Netflix because I was so scared she would see my history and find BFE...all of this stuff DOES mess up kids. To everyone else who was effected, I'm so sorry. Let's all get through this together.

Thanks for making these videos. I wasn't able to watch every single part, but you brought up a lot of great points in the parts I did see. I was 11 when the show came out, and thankfully I was able to dodge the disgusting side of the fandom. I do believe even after all this time that the actual show was well-written and great for audiences of any age. There were some truly amazing artists in the fandom who created wholesome and beautiful things (I still go back and rewatch "Lullaby for a Princess" every now and then, and it still makes me cry). But it breaks my heart knowing that there were so many kids damaged by the creepos in the fandom, and I really hope everyone who was affected is able to heal from it.

Sure, I watched a lot of gore (Happy Tree Friends has no introduction), but I'm a bit sure that these videos made me traumatized, but not quite a lot. I only started to get more interested in the show thanks to a member on a Discord server I'm in, and also the artists that are keeping the show alive with animations, literature and everything in between. Pretty enjoyable video, Raymundo! :3

To be honest, until this video, I'd never actually given much thought to the long-term impacts of unrestricted internet access on kids. I've heard the odd joke every now and then, along the lines of the coolest people having been traumatised by this sort of content and kinda agreeing, but god damn.
I was involved in so many 'edgy' communities as an older kid/ preteen. I was hugeeee into FNAF for many years, as well as the Brony community, Creepypasta, the furry community etc. I never really considered the impact that stuff had on me. I started viewing NSFW content from the age of 7 (probably sparked by the kind of stuff I was seeing in said communities), and began to display quite significant sexual deviance and hypersexuality before turning even 10 years old. I consumed a hell of a lot of gore content too, starting with indie animations on YT like those mentioned here, but I was viewing full on snuff films at the age of 12/13. I've always been described as quiet and polite, but my dad and certainly my sister, have a lot of memories of me displaying apathetic and sometimes quite violent, manipulative and threatening behaviour. I'm diagnosed with autism, so it could be as a result of that, but I do feel there's probably a deep correlation with the kind of depravity I was viewing at an age too young to properly understand what I was looking at.
I'm glad gen Z has a pretty heavy attitude to not allowing our kids technology too young, and certainly keeping a close eye on what they're looking at. I think the blow only lands heavier at the fact that a lot of the people that were viewing content within niche, more 'cringe' fandoms like this tended to be on the autism spectrum, such is the case for myself, which can make it a lot harder to understand what is being viewed and why it is not appropriate to act upon/ replicate in real life, especially with gore and NSFW.
Honestly, we joke about 'character building' from being exposed to this content young, but I think it's a very serious issue that needs to be discussed. Thank you for making this video and bringing awareness to such an obscure topic. I think it really highlights the need for responsibility as a creator in communities like this. Content like this should be allowed to exist, but should not be uploaded on a place like YT which is full of kids, or should at least have some kind of disclaimer/ age restriction. Parents also need to take a lot more responsibility with what kids are accessing at young ages, because the impact of this stuff is really serious. I exhibited a lot of violence against my younger sister as a result, and have had a very bizarre relationship with sex until this day, something I am only now fixing at the age of 19 through therapy.
Please monitor what your kids watch.

First of all, thank you so much for this video. Ive seen a lot of videos talking about the horrors of the brony fandom in the early 2010s, but not much about the consequences of it in children.
Talking for experience: the first time I came across gore was the cupcakes video. I clicked thinking it was something inoccent and then, I was traumatized, to the point I would have nightmares constantly and couldn't sleep properly or watch the show because it make me sick. I would cry out of fear because of how terrified I was everytime I saw Pinkie Pie anywhere.
Up to this day, even tho I'm a grown adult now, I still can't eat cupcakes (the actual food) because it gave me the ick. It sucks

The rainbow factory was single-handedly probably the most traumatizing part of the brony fandom for me I think. I distinctly remember how my friend who introduced me to mlp and I were sitting in the 4th and 5th grader wing of my elementary school looking at pony stuff and pony music. A friend who wasn’t a brony was also joining in and I think we stumbled upon the SFM rainbow factory music video and it scared the hell out of me versus my friends seemed to enjoy it. There’s just something about how rusty everything is and the slamming in the song paired with the super robotic sounding vocals that just terrified me as a ten year old. When my brother and I were home alone he found out how scared I was of the song and started tormenting me with it to the point I had to call my one friend who had taken her little sister to the park and bike all the way there after begging to join them because of how upset and scared I was. I was crying while frantically biking away from home because my brother thought it was funny. I’m 22 now and it was only a few years ago that I watched that video again and even hearing the first few seconds it just gives me these alert bells in my head and makes my skin crawl. I’ve seen way scarier stuff and I’m a horror fanatic now but that SFM music video gives me the heebie jeebies

Y'know it's ironic that you mention the reuploads aren't age restricted because I remember briefly when Cupcakes HD (either it was a reupload or the original, I don't really remember) was not only not age restricted, but was falsely flagged by the algorithm as specifically for kids. Pretty sure the uploader took it down after that or it was flagged by very confused and concerned watchers/parents.

I was someone who grew up with the older generations of mlp, I had watched both the 80s specials, my little pony tales and the G3 movies came out right when I was the perfect age. And then I heard all these grown men, who never grew up with them and never were the target audience, making videos talking about how bad all the previous generations were and G4 is the only good one. Of course, G4 HAS better writing, I do admit that, but the other generations still were perfect for someone who was the target audience for them.
Watching the old movies as a kid I got inspired to play out the plots with my pony toys. I especially loved the plot of "Escape from Midnight Castle", where all the ponies got kidnapped and needed to be rescued - I always played out that plot. Also the G3 movies, especially "Runaway Rainbow" inspired me a lot, and I always had a pony being the mischievous one breaking the rules and then surprising everyone, like Rarity in the movie. So they weren't "brain rot movies" to me, and as a kid it hurt to hear all these adult men basically telling me these were garbage and I should be ashamed to like them.
I do love people being like "omg Rainbow Dash was so girly in G3" because I had the opposite experience - watching G4 for the first time going "Oh! Rainbow Dash can fly now and has a different personality!"
Anyway. I did also really enjoy G4 and as a preteen in the early 2010s, I encountered a LOT of these stuff brought up in the video... especially in the fanart, because I loved looking at fanart... :,)

32:00 fun thing about that project is that i wanted to do a scary halloween animation as I've never tried before, and I'm a fan of Sweeney Todd. Honestly, all things considered, the fact that adult men were in fact able to unironically like a My Little Pony show, of all things, just goes to show that a quality show is a quality show. And also...cutesy "girl shows" don't seem to be made with quality all that often. It's like that kind of audience is just taken for granted by most big creators.

Thank you so, so much for making this video, as someone with a brony past, i unfortunately watched the cupcakes video made by Mr Davie, and as a huge Rainbow dash fan, so much in fact some of her colors were used in the making of one of my OCs. After I watched the video... I ended up kinda traumatized and very upset, and it gave me an unjustified hatred towards Pinkie pie... naturally as a kid... I just drew her in ways that a kid souldn't be drawing anyway and.... well you get the idea. This kinda also made me get obssesed with Rainbow Factory, wich was also kinda bad for my age but i don't really complain on this one tho as an edgy scene guy myself, loved the aesthetic and being involved on my favorite mlp character at the time.
This... was... a subject I would rather forget on my life, it kinda distorted some of my visions on certain things really, some of the for the good, yeah, but mostly for the bad...
Again, thank you for showing and exposing this kind of content the brony community did and how it ended up toying with our minds as kids.
Edit: That Rainbow factory cover was really dope tho XD
