Now, I play every day and it is so enjoyable. I learn something new every day from people like Paul Davids.
Looking back, which I don't like to do, I now realize that I could have carved out 30 minutes daily for my guitars.
      Don't wait until you retire.

I was guitar-less for much of my 20's. Started playing a lot at age 12.... was the type to play 8 hrs a day or more. When I was 16 I got an Epiphone Flamecat, which I had until I pawned it for a car payment when I was 19..... that suuuuucked. I ended up losing my job and working through day labor places for minimum wage, and lost the guitar to the pawn shop. Very disappointing. I eventually bought an acoustic/electric Ovation guitar for about 100 bucks, and had it for a couple years. I forget what happened to it.... I didn't have a guitar after that one for a good few years, then I got a Lyon acoustic which I liked a lot. When I was 23, my 4th child was born, and we moved out to the country onto a piece of land. I bought my 2nd son a small acoustic First Act guitar for his 5th birthday, which was the only guitar in the house for a while. I played it quite a bit til I got another acoustic from someone as a freebie.... the guitar got smashed up when my children's mother was angry .... I didn't mention it before, but from age 14 to 16 I had 5 guitars of mine smashed by people. 3 of them on one occasion, which I did not witness, one of them while being jumped, and another one by someone who was trying to piss me off (worked). So a total of 6 of my guitars have been smashed up and destroyed. This last one, #6, was strewn out in the yard when I returned home, is how I found it. That was 2010. I was 25. I didn't have another guitar for 5 years, when I put one on layaway in 2014 and got it by 2015. I ended up broke and struggling and had to sell it to get by. In 2016, I bought my 7 year old daughter a guitar for christmas that year. a mexi fender strat, sunburst, and a small Amp. She loved it and started playing. Her first lesson was the intro to Enter Sandman. She didn't have it too long though, on Jan 3 of 2017 we had a bad fire in our apartment while we were gone at park eating tacos and playing and stuff.... lost most everything. Then we found a rent house a month later, then moved again in spring 2018 to another house. No guitars since the fire until their mom found me a little acoustic for 20 bucks somewhere. I enjoyed it. In Aug of 2018 she ended up going down a very dark path, to the point there were safety concerns for my children while I was at work. It got real bad, and I ended up taking the kids to my mom and step dad's. Was supposed to be for a few days or a week.... but she went further away down darkness, and sort of disappeared for a while. It was very sad, and guiding the children through it was tough, but brought us very close together. That summer, I filed for custody, and after over a dozen court dates and lots of money, I was awarded custody unopposed in Dec of '18. I got a Fender dreadnought style acoustic guitar during that time as a gift, which I still have. It became like therapy. I was grieving the way their mom went, and feeling all our sadness, hers included. She passed away the last day of December of 2023, in the hospital. Major liver problems and other issues, plus addictions. I thank God I was bless with the desire and will to stay away from hard drug use, was somehow able to test the waters in my late teens without forming desire for them, and when my first son was born when i was 18, in 2003, i cut nearly all of my friends out, just focused on making a way, earning money.
Anyway, all that to say - GUYS! GALS! IF you have a guitar, PLAY IT. You see above that many of my years were spent guitarless. Anytime I was around one, I played the hell outta the thing, only to be without again later in the day, planning how to buy one again soon.
Play those guitars guys. For real. Or sell or give to someone who will if you really aren't into it anymore, especially if you have multiple. But truthfully.... once a love of guitar forms in a person.... does it ever fade for good? I don't believe so. I've still got my Fender acoustic from 2018, my 2nd son has an acoustic Yamaha, and daughter has a squire strat since the last couple years. Christmas of 2019 I believe. She's progressed a lot in last year, and is into it as much as I was, and am. I play every day, usually from 11pm until 1am solid, with a few earlier brief 15 min jams... sometimes I get my thin and quiet pick and strum till 4am on weekends, huddled over my tablet reading chords and lyrics.
      God bless music!
And again - don't let me catch yall letting the dust build on your guitars again! If any poor soul ever tries to make this Fender I have now become my #7th destroyed guitar I'll let yall know and you can send any dusty neglected guitar my way. 😂
Take care, thanks for posting and bring that story out. Peace (:

A few months is nothing, learning an instrument.
Play regular, and don't expect to be a master. The satisfaction of little progressions makes it enjoyable, until you get a few things under your belt. Practice, and enjoy it.

      You are absolutely right guys.
And to be fair I made a decent progress during the first three months or so, learned all basic open chords and a few strumming patterns and practiced the bar chords.
Actually I have the basics to play simple songs but I got stuck here and it all falls apart when I play with a metronome...
I don't think, that can not learn it, but it will take much longer than I expected.
I have a lot of stuff going on right now but I will give it a second chance for sure.

I love open tunings. Open Dm is also beautiful, especially for slide. It’s instantly recognisable.

Isn't it amazing how Paul's calm voice guides down the path starting with a simple rhythm and melody pattern to explore and savour the increasing depth of complexities? It's more soothing and relaxing than a guided meditation session coupled with wine tasting! Bravo, Paul! You are fully qualified to grow a legit stress management branch. Now, I go slow my breathing and restart the vid...

btw, if you see this at all...i stopped playing for many years mainly due to physical problems. not playing or writing music is a huge loss. nothing can fill that hole. so i've begun playing again. some days i can do it! some i can't. but the choice is either accepting whatever limitations i have, or nothing. and nothing is just unacceptable.
thank you very much for helping inspire me to pick up a guitar again, and to keep learning new things.
