lol somehow I have managed to complete a couple of projects over the years WITHOUT moving my stitches to DPNS from circular needles! Let me tell you... hard! And my face I am sure looked like it did when I was just beginning knitting because my stitches were so tight then I couldn't move them. It was pretty much the same experience decreasing in the round! But I was like " There's got to be a better way!!" lol Thank you!
This is great! I'm still learning more complicated knitting patterns (and how to read them) and I've never used circular or DPNs before. So naturally I chose to try something that has both lol. This showed me exactly what to do, so thank you so much!
Brilliant....this is what I needed. Have followed a tutorial for a sun hat but have made and unpicked three times, the winter version as there were no instructions when decreasing the crown and this was a problem trying to knit 20 stitches in the round. I was unaware I had to change over to straight needles!! Let’s hope I can figure out the rest of the tutorial. You can tell I’m a beginner can’t you!
This is a great tutorial. It’s my first time making this change from circular to dpn on a sleeve and you confirmed my thinking and now I’m confident I can go do it! Thanks 😊
Would love a video on fair isle, yoke and hope to read difficult jumper patterns. Love your videos! You have such a natural talent of breaking down seemingly difficult processes into easy steps. Your videos have inspired me to pick back up the needles and have an attempt at a sweater. I have purchased your raglan tutorial and can’t wait!!
Knitted my first ever hat thanks to your tutorials on how to use double pointed needles, 16in circulars, etc!! Thank you so much for this, it helped a lot!!
I'm still new to knitting especially using circular needles. But is there any way to prevent the knitted fabric from having too many holes between knits when decreasing? I'm not sure if I'm decreasing too much too soon or the spaces between knits from decreasing is inevitable.
Hmm.. there shouldn't be big gaps between your regular stitches and your decreased stitches (like a k2tog or ssk). You can try to pull a bit tighter on your yarn after each decrease. It might just be a problem of having slightly looser tension after doing a decrease stitch.
I'm late, but its sooooo good to see you back. A lot of what you teach I know already and some I may not know. Still, you do it at such a modern, high quality, and fun level. I look at your videos like it's the next episode of a good tv series.
Thank you! Haha I can't imagine what a knitting tv series would look like, but I would love one! I'm thinking murder mystery with some detectives who knit to blow off steam!
How do you know where to put the points on a set of DPNs when forming the triangle? That's always confused me. I see some points on top and some below the other points of the DPNs, so how do I figure out how to arrange that?
Hi! I'm not sure what you mean by points? Do you mean, you're unsure when to introduce a new DPN into the knitting? Like, where the needle breaks should go? If so, you can decide how many DPNs you will use. In the video, I use 3 DPNs to hold the knitting and 1 DPN to knit. So, I would divide the total number of stitches by 3. That number is the amount of stitches each needle should hold (For example, if I had 30 stitches, I would go 30/3 = 10. So each DPN should hold 10 stitches). Then, I'd introduce the first DPN at the beginning of the round and pick up 10 stitches. Then, use the second DPN to pick up the next 10 stitches and the third DPN to pick up the last 10 stitches. So, there will be needle breaks at the beginning and end of the round. But... you don't have to introduce a new DPN at the beginning of the round. You can actually introduce a new needle anywhere in the round! Just make sure to insert a stitch marker to mark the beginning of the round so you know where the round starts and ends. Hope that makes sense!
@@sheepandstitch Um, no, I mean the actual point on either end of a DPN. I would be doing a simple transfer of stitches from my circular to the DPNs, but I can't figure out where to place the actual point on either end of the DPN in the triangle
@@yvettehobbs1063 Oh, you mean whether the DPN points should be above or below each other? Like, how they should be overlapping? If that's the case, then it really doesn't matter if point 1 on DPN 1 is on top of point 2 of DPN 2. You can arrange them however you like. The stitches should be comfortable on the needle, and that's all that really matters! Arranging the literal points is up to you. Hope I understood your question correctly.
Hi. I just found you and while I've been knitting for a while but I'm self taught so I come across gaps every once in a while. Your videos are great!! I've watched a few now. Your voice is load and clear and not too fast. Your explanations are succinct and straightforward. The videography is also excellent. I would love to see a video on 9-inch circulars. I've tried to use them several times and I don't know what I'm doing wrong. It's not so much the hand movements it's more that if there aren't the exact correct number of stitches everything is all stretched out or too squished together. What am I doing wrong? Thanks so much for your work!!
Hey! I really dislike 9 inch circulars (or micro circular needles) for the very reason you've mentioned - they are just kind of finicky to work with. I much prefer DPNs or magic loop to do small circular knitting. The issue of having stretched out stitches or squished up stitches is true for all circular needles. If the number of stitches greatly exceeds the length of the needle, then they'll be squished together. Conversely, if the number of stitches is far less than the length of the needle, then they'll be stretched out, and the only way to continue knitting is to switch to DPNs or magic loop.
Why don't you just start knitting with DPNs as Normal, and make sure you divide the stitches evenly but following ur pattern of course. Transferring them purl wise is fine, but a waste of time. Just start knitting as if you in pattern.
You could absolutely cast on and knit the entire project with DPNS, but some people prefer casting on and knitting with circulars first and then switching to DPNs as they decrease their work. This is usually the case for hat knitting (from what I've seen!), but an all-DPN-all-the-way approach would work too!

My wife says to give you double thumbs up!
This really helps. I had been yelling at my stitches, "Get over there, you layabouts!" and was having no luck at all.
"Get over there, you layabouts!" LOL that's great!
instablaster.
This is a very clear explanation.

Using dpns for the first time on a baby hat. Thanks for your tutorial on both ways. Seems so easy so here goes!

Excellent & clear. "Removing like purl" stitch very helpful, thank you.
That was a very good description! Thanks for the refresher- haven’t knitted a hat in over 15 years! ❤
Love you and your videos

You are so easy to listen to and follow. Thanks for the help!
Thank you! I love ur tutorials. You make it make so much sense!
Thank you for the easy to follow instructions. 😊
this is the best video. thank you. that DPN switch moment is def not fun
You are amazing!!! I’ve been struggling trying to learn and I’ve watched so many videos with none of them clicking the way this does!
That's awesome! So glad it helped you out!
Knitting mom! Knitting mom! Knitting mom! Thank you!
Haha, you're too funny!
I would love a video that included how to finish or bind off using DPNs.
me too! it would help so so much because i just started DPNs today and don't know how to finish oops 🙊
I'm so glad you're back! I didn't realize there was a video posted last week. You are my Yoda on this knitting journey. 😄
Thank you, dear! I'm happy to be your knitting yoda!
thank you thank you...so easy with your video my first experience with knitting inthe round..
So glad to hear that! You got this!

Do you have a video on the “magic loop?”
Your tutorials are amazing 🤩🤩🤩
This is great! One question I have is what if your stitches are not able to be divided by 3 evenly?
that is great but I would like to see it through to the end on how you decrease and close it up....is that possible?
Yes that would be great
Great tutorial. It helped a lot. Thanks.
Very easy to understand thank you! We need more of you!
Great instructions! Thanks for sharing.
Ohh my gosh this helped so much you are the best omg your deserve more subscribers
Would love a video on how you knit, and hold your hands and the needles
Oh! That's a great topic. Will add it to my list of potential videos! Thanks!

👍🏼👍🏼excellent video. One of the very few great ones out there!!
I also really like the magic loop technique, and you can you circular needdels all over
Thanks you for the video! I'm currently making a hat and I'm wondering, are 7 inch double pointed needles sufficient for a toque?

When wanting to switch from double pointed needles to Circular needles do you transfer the stitches in the same way or is it different?
Yes the concept is the same!
I can knit on dpns after transferring from circulars so decreasing for a hat but I can’t knit on dpns alone why is that

Don’t have double pointed needles Help
I’m at my final decrease row 24 stitches left
Where can I find this hat pattern
Right here 😀 ruclips.net/video/xFpVn_X47sQ/видео.html
You can use magic loope instead!
Yes you can! And that will be a future tutorial for sure!
