The final season sees laid-back contractor Frank Lambert (Patrick Duffy) and type A beautician Carol Foster (Suzanne Somers) continue their efforts to mold their mismatched, spirited broods into a single harmonious family. Brainy Dana Foster (Staci Keanan) continues her studies at the local college, while J.T. Lambert (Brandon Call) and his BFF, Rich Halke (Jason Marsden), enjoy the working world. Karen Foster (Angela Watson) is still the most fashionable student in school, while her age-mate step sibling, Al Lambert (Christine Lakin), is still the toughest tomboy around. Fifteen-year-old prodigy Mark Foster (Christopher Castile) sees his research branching out from genetics...to include girls! And 6-year-old Lilly tries to make sense of both of her family branches. The conflicts are endless as Frank and Carol try to keep their household of children, ages 6 through 20, in check, but the Fosters and the Lamberts take each day Step by Step.

Probably one of the last really decent sitcom shows to ever air. TV is practically dead in prime time.
I loved the mess out of this show, I'm African American and I looked forward to this on tgif and family matters, saved by the Bell lord my childhood I was 12 when this came out, I teard up when it showed there past pictures to the present ones memories lord memories watching these wonderful sitcoms

My fiance and I are binging this show now and I swear it wasn't the same without Cody. I wish his legal issues didn't happen and they could have kept him on
On HBOmax? Me too! Best episode is when Karen enhances her lips. That scene is probably the best and most hilarious scene of the whole series!

@@tofutoph Yeah I have to admit, I liked Karen better for the first few seasons, then I changed to Al for the last few years, Karen looked really bad, the last year, she lost a ton of weight and just didn't look as good as she used to.

It was so fun to see Cody coming back in the show for one episode when he bought him some souvenirs really strange souvenirs that he had from new guinea and from Amazon I just wish they let them back

So sad CBS cancelled it after taking it from ABC and it never even got a proper series finale 😢
Apparently it would've ended with Dana and Rich getting married but the budget got slashed and they couldn't film the last few episodes.

Funny you mention that, probably copied Keanu Reeves character Ted, from Excellent Adventure, if not for Sasha Mitchell playing Cody, he would probably be the best replacement, it would have been great if when cody left, that they brought him in to replace him, saying he was Cody's cousin, would have been a really great story line, but unfortunately never happened and they got that idiot Jean Luc.

At least CBS brought the theme song back to the show in its last, and final season on its new network. Yeah, it’s short, but it’s 1998. A lot of the networks back then were doing away with theme songs to have more time for show scenes.

Glad they brought back Cody after all the mess the actor had been though, and after all the replacements (Flash, Jean-Luc - although Rich was a great addition), but sadly it was way too late for him to return. If only a season earlier.....Still cool to see this though.

I lived in USA at the time you were at your height of meeting Donald trump days. I'm 70 now. I too had great social life in Redondo beach . Met famous people huge buzz. I'm from UK but live now in south of France . Your stories bring back so many times spent in La . I got approached loads roses sent in the top places they said always I looked like Morgan Fairchild. Many didn't even believe when I said I wasn't. It was escape from a nasty divorce stayed 2 yrs. Met many male admirers but not the one. So moved back to UK. Now living in a lge converted French farm house. With ,4 acres. Sorry rambling but just a thank you to you both as I just loved watching you both so in love. Stay strong you were one of the lucky guys found your true love shared so much together.

I really don't think the word "bitchin" was going to be a big deal after the five attempted rapes they had in the show, not to mention all the sexual harassment. For a show that was supposedly family friendly, they were pretty hypocritical. And what was up with Frank and Carol going at it every episode, but god forbid any of the kids had sex in their early 20's.
@@dawggirl Well the style and tone of the show changed as everyone got older, so it's not that surprising, I mean all the kids on the show were old enough where it wasn't being inappropriate or rude I don't think, it never bothered me.

@@darkpisces8125 I know all about that, thats the reason she left Threes Company, she was a greedy selfish person, who thought she was the whole show, the producer of Threes Company explained to both of them that John Ritter was the main star of the show, therefore he will be paid the most.

I used to watch this show regularly but it lost me those last 2 seasons, just wasn't as good. Like most shows when they bring in a baby that becomes a 5 yr old in one season it spells the end of the show. Not having Cody didn't help either.

I agree, but Sasha won full custody of his children to which is rare for a single man in the 90s and that the judge gave his ex-wife limited supervised visit with the kids and it wasn't long when Sasha four kids asked him and the judge if they could stop seeing their mother.
After Sasha Mitchell was released from prison for good behavior, the producers of _Step by Step_ were looking to bring him back, but ABC, which had just been acquired by The Walt Disney Company, would not allow it. I wonder if CBS would have taken a chance on bringing Sasha Mitchell back as a regular when the show moved there in 1997. It may have saved the show.

he was an unseen character in this season. hell they were already phasing him out in Season 6. Frank and Carol even had a girl who effectively replaced him

None of the child actors went on to act as adults.
Christine Lakin did, though it's been mostly one-off/short guest appearances on shows (and a random stint on Nick Cannon's Wild 'n' Out lol). Nowadays she's also trying her hand at directing sitcoms.
Most of the kids left acting save for Christine Lakin who is still active especially on social media and podcasts. She's married and has a girl and a boy. Staci Keanan became a lawyer, Christopher Castille became a teacher he's married and has a couple of kids. Angela Watson had a difficult relationship with her parents and a controlling abusive boyfriend and now she's just getting her life together. She recently appeared on Christine's podcast and has a kid. Her iconic long hair is now gone. It's much shorter. Brandon Call is out of the business and working on getting his life together. As for Josh Byrnne who played Brendan seems to be no longer in the business but he seems to be doing okay he's in a happy relationship and has 2 kids. @@andresgc770
