In an interview to discuss what he calls the increasing “Hindu-fication of political discourse” in India, the well-known and highly regarded historian and widely read political commentator, Ramachandra Guha has said: “the tamasha around the Ram temple should worry Indian citizens who believe in democracy and pluralism”. He says its size and scale is a sign of megalomania and its “a monument to the supremacy of Hinduism”.

He points to Japan, South Korea and Taiwan as examples, without mentioning the fact that those countries do not allow Muslim immigration and have less than .01% Muslims.

They even started taking the help of British who were just independent traders who stopped in Cochin, etc. for fresh water and food enroute to China and back. It was called the Silk Route. It was because of the Rajas who asked for military assistance that the British engaged with Indians. Gradually as the dynamics changed they got more and more involved with Indians. If the Rajas and Princes did not involve the British in their local fights there would be many countries in India today. The so called India that we know of today is just an artificial formation. India is not India. It became a India. So a Hindu Rashtra is just an imposition on the psyche of the people and Hindu Rashtra is a crooked homeade idea and becomes an abomination.

Mr Guha says that Hinduism does not aim for congregation. Largest religious congregation of the world is Kumbh. I am sure Mr Guha is a good historian, but seems like he is a biased theologian. Temples were, and in small towns across India still are, centres of buissness activities. Hindus in every nook and corner of India congregate at temples to pray everyday. The whole discussion was idiosyncratic. A prime example of how in India seemingly educated individuals discuss theology without understanding even an iota of it.
