I was first diagnosed with a caffeine sensitivity. I gave up caffeine. I noticed that alcohol gave me the same symptoms. I basically stopped drinking. Which was no big deal because I was a very light social drinker anyway. Then I was told I had anxiety. Was put on meds for that. I kept telling the Dr's something was not quite right with my heart. I had a stress test and was fine there. They kept telling me it was probably menopause trigger anxiety. 5 years later I had to call an ambulance 3 times and went to the ER twice before the EKG finally caught it while it was happening. I had to wait 6 weeks for my turn with the holter monitor. Wore that for 2 weeks and found out that I had Afib. I was also then sent for a sleep study and I had terrible sleep apnea. PS I never snored. Things are better and managed with medication now. But it was terrifying going for all those years without being heard that it was my heart. I am working to try to lose the tons of weight I gained from being on an anti anxiety med that made me sleep 13 hours a night on the weekends and constantly feel like I was starving. I am hoping the weight loss will help with my Afib. If anyone thinks they have Afib, please be sure to self advocate. It is worth your effort.
I can identify some imediate causes for some of my AF episodes and - swiming in cold water, like in rivers, or apnea swiming - inspiring cold air while running a litle, or walk fast - haviog a very strong coffee (even one shot... if you don't know how strong it is, better not have it) - not adding water to spirits - sleeping just couple of hours a night
My triggers were caffeine and alcohol I gave up alcohol but coffee I’m drinking decaffeinated coffee now I’m getting by I had the shock treatment to get my heart back in rhythm I’m taking a bunch of meds to maintain my heart rhythm blood thinners as well for those you who’s drinking coffee and alcohol please listen to this guy he’s telling the absolute truth afib is no joke .
Yes my friend it's no joke,I'm on the decaf myself,I got pneumonia in Sept wound up in the hospital,I'm not sure if that caused it or vice versa but they tried the cardioversion twice it didn't work cause I was so sick so after a week I went home and stayed on new meds and was going in to try it as an outpatient I had major reactions to the meds after 3 was had to stop taking then they couldn't try it,wound up hammeredfrom not 5aking meds wound up in hospital thru Thanksgiving now im waiting to go in on January 11th I pray it works because now I got 5his cold going around and I wake up.in an hour gasping for air so bad almost don't make so yeah I've seen the light,no sweets no alcohol,no red meat decaf coffee and a lot of prayers I had triple by pass and valve repair in 2018 and I've done a lot of damage so yes listen to these guys and don't let this A fib happen to ya if you can, take care
I wake in the night with AFIB also. I think I will get checked for sleep apnea. I have never tried a cold shower, but I did put my face in a bowl of ice water. It didn’t help. Breathing exercises help me. Good luck.
Very informative. I was just diagnosed and it all seemed to come to light after a surgery. Not quite sure where how severe mine is, but this video has eased my fears a bit. I do need to lose a few pounds, and had very well controlled blood pressure up until the last month or so. Can’t figure that out but, as I said, it’s been a horrible four months, including breaking my femur in half. Other than that, my risk factors are low or nonexistent. Hoping that I can eliminate or minimize this a fib. I am pretty much freaked out by this so I’m trying to learn as much as I can about it. 73 years old and very active on a farm. Female.
I quit caffeine, I don’t smoke, nor drink, I tried many of the medication’s to stop it, I’ve lost weight, I drink several bottles of water every day to stay , and I still get A Fib about three times a month. In week I will try ablation. I’m hoping it’s going to work, but I’m skeptical it will because nothing else worked. The meds caused a block in my heart. They don’t tell you that is not all that uncommon before you take it and they should. It made my a fib worse, not better.
I didn't realize this, but when I had a CAC of 660 I went on Omega3 high dose of 3-4 grams per day. I learned that Europeans were saying they were experiencing A-fib on Omega3. When I recently had Covid I was in A-fib for a week. I decided to stop Omega3 and in a couple of days I was not experiencing any A-fib. I decided to run a 100yds as an elevated heart rate in the 80s, which usually would put me into A-fib didn't happen. In fact I put my heart in the 90s and no A-fib. I did stop alcohol a known trigger. An over the counter decongestant would also put me into A-fib. But I don't know about the Omega3 influence being a factor in either one. All I know is I'm estatic that my A-fib seems to be gone!
ANXIETY - LACK OF SLEEP - LACK OF EXERCISE - ELECTROLYTE IMBALANCE - INFECTION - STIMULANTS - LOW OR HIGH BLOOD SUGAR - DEHYDRATION - NIGHTMARE - It begins with stress which raises cortisol which depletes magnesium, potassium and B vitamins. This can lead to anxiety. If not resolved this can cascade into frequent episodes. And that's when other factors that didn't stimulate it now will that your body is in a weakened state.
I have found certain foods trigger my a-fib. Apples, Pears, Peaches, Mangos, items with high sugar (Excess Fructose) also Lactose... Icees/sulurpee and frozen drinks if consumed too fast. Of course caffeine and tea, except for decaf.
Because of allergies, I have really strong sneezing fits, usually 5 - 10 sneezes in a row. My sneezing can be really violent sometimes, I have cracked a rib. Yesterday I had 4 sneezing spells and it kicked my afib into gear. Lasted about12 hours. This is the first spell since the middle of May this year.
I am 29 and mine is triggered by laying on my left sude, getting uo and down really fast or laying under working on vehicles. I was put in the hospital on a defibrillator and rushed by ambul because of it once. All because I layed on my left side.
My primary trigger for Afib is digestion problems, with stomach gas and bloated stomach. The other is sleep apnea. I have celiac disease and by avoiding gluten and gas-producing vegetables and fruits and sleeping in a position that keeps my airway open, I have dramatically reduced the incidence of Afib.
thanks you for the information i havent been dignosed yet but i have copd and on tablets for my heart racing etc and also my brother has it and im only 8 stone in weight and i dont drink or smoke no more and i have celiac diease and other health conditions and i start to go little walks every day and trying afford stress
I have sleep apnea-it’s definitely one of my triggers. I have discovered another trigger of mine to be not breathing while in deep concentration. I am an artist so I used to sit for long periods of time concentrating on creating something-so much so that for some odd reason I just don’t breathe much at all. I never knew it until I found myself repeatedly going into aFib only while concentrating on something like that. I’ve probably been doing it my entire life and didn’t know it because I never felt it bothering me until now-at 60 years old it has finally started to take it’s toll. I hope that information helps someone.
I have bronchiectasis and was told the effort of breathing can cause my heart to work harder to receive oxygen. I’ve lost 15kgs in weight without trying to. I sometimes wonder if I will stop losing weight. Being thinner help with breathlessness and getting around. I’ve started eating meat again which gives me the feeling of feeling full, and don’t eat any carbohydrates.
Being shocked out of sleep from a car crash in front of my house did it to me last time. Once getting a sudden stomach virus and running to the bathroom to vomit (sorry). Other 6 times, hard to say.
I have Afib. It took 5 years for the Dr's to believe me that it was my heart and not anxiety. Wearing a holter monitor for 2 weeks proved me right. Of course I was put on anti anxiety meds before my Afib diagnose. I am trying to wean myself off of them. But the withdrawl gives me Afib. My Cardiologist doesn't think that it should. But for me it does. Best wishes and be sure to self advocate until you get an answer.

Anger is my biggest trigger. Gotta stay calm.
Try meditation.

Bingo: I own a few of these triggers. In the past my cardioligist claimed it was just coincidental, but from personal experience I knew better.
Sleeping is my trigger. Waking to an episode of AF is daunting. Taking a cold shower helped me once so did not have to go to the ER.
I wake in the night with AFIB also. I think I will get checked for sleep apnea. I have never tried a cold shower, but I did put my face in a bowl of ice water. It didn’t help. Breathing exercises help me. Good luck.
Being dehydrated. Bending over, like vacuuming the floor of your car or reaching down into a washing machine. Eating fatty food. Bad colds and flu.
Biggest trigger for me is sugar, especially over dosing on donuts, cookies, candy etc. When i eat whole foods, mostly plant based, i do much better.

I find drinking alkaline water keeps my stomach from getting upset which was something that triggered afib attacks.
Anxiety

That is wonderful for you!!! I am sure it is a real relief.
i found your video very interesting and thankyou for your words of wisdom

I’ve found the ice cold drinks do trigger mine

Do you take any Benedryl?
Mine is stress..or even extreme sadness like I saw innocent stray puppies poisoned & dying & begging for water. Yes anger too is one.beware

Laying on my left side having AFib brings me to this video.
Thanks for mentioning that. I suspected that might be the case for me, but then doubted it. But now realize I was right. Mild symptoms though.
I have more episodes while laying on my left side
Me too.....left side..... irregular beat....boom....AFib.....
Me, too. Lying on left side is a no no now!

Sleep apnea possibly a trigger too?
Yes it is, absolutely.
definitely.

For me alcohol, especially spirits. One or two glasses of wine ok!
Being shocked out of sleep from a car crash in front of my house did it to me last time. Once getting a sudden stomach virus and running to the bathroom to vomit (sorry). Other 6 times, hard to say.

Lack of sleep and sugar is my trigger.
Anxiety and eating too much for me.
I think stress is a trigger for me.
I am a 2 cup of coffee a day person.
Dehydration will trigger me every time. I try to drink 8 glasses of water a day and avoid caffeine.
Too big of a swallow of food, especially when your stomach is already full.
