I considered getting a Lomi but as I kept looking into it I realized the whole reason this device works as fast as it does is because it uses a lot of energy. It’s an appliance, after all! From an environmental perspective, I couldn’t justify burning through all that energy, no matter how convenient the end-product might be.

I feel very blessed to live in a city where they compost your organics as part of the waste removal system. So I have my counter compost bucket, in which I put a compostable bag, and it goes out with the garbage every week. I don't have a garden, so have no use for compost myself. I think composting is awesome; I'm just lazy and happy I don't have to do it. ;)

Excellent video. Thank you for sharing with us your experience. I've tried composting in the past and have had disastrous results (flies and rodents in the backyard). I think I'll just stick to my current lazy method of just putting my used coffee grinds, raw eggshells, and banana peels in the yard in a corner, cover with a bag of dirt, and remember about it in like 5 months. Then my husband adds it to his garden if he remembers. The good news is we do recycle all recyclable plastic, paper, and cardboard because the city collects them. I'll save my $500 and not buy the Lomi.

The idea is nice and I do see this can add a lot of value for people who don't have access at all to a normal compost.. 🤔
What bothers me so much though is the carbon footprint.
The amount of energy that is used for a machine to run 15h every 2nd, 3rd day to keep the composting process up, for me sounds just SO incredibly wasteful.
If you don't have any other
possibility, I get it - but only then! Especially as composting is just so simple.
Yes it takes a bit to understand how it works in different climates with different soil conditions, but everyone figures that out eventually - and then: let mother nature just do the process.
    Also...Good Things simply need time.

I got a Lomi about a month ago. I do have access to a yard, but have never composted because I am afraid of attracting wildlife and then having mice in the house. I also found the Lomi to be huge and is always in the way and it needs to be 6 inches from the wall while running, so I have to move it and it is heavy. I find the sound very loud, more than a dishwasher. I only used the shortest cycle, partly due to noise and also because I want to fill the lomi again. I also do not have a garden. I then throw away the finished product. I wonder if this is eco friendly at all. I have considered trying outdoor composting just to dispose of the lomi end product. I live in a cold climate, so I could use Lomi in the winter and outdoor compost in summer. But still, I do not want to attract animals.

Two comments - you added WAY too much water. Measure if you try it again - you added about 4 oz of water where the directions say to add about an ounce and half.. Also use it on the eco setting and then add to your regular composter. That will take much less time and be more interactive and I think your results would be more consistent. Also you would be able to process much more so that you would not have food waste waiting to be composted.
Note even in the grow mode you selected the directions say to mix with 10 parts soil to 1 part Lomi outpur.

    • @In4It789cat
      @In4It789cat Год назад

No. It’s not speeding up a natural process at all. It’s evaporating the water and cooking the contents while simultaneously chopping them up. It does not create compost or soil… only dried, cooked, minced up mash of exactly what was put in at the start. Then, people put it on their plants thinking it’s like compost and it just rehydrates and begins to mold almost instantly. It’s a gimmick.

I want one because I’m single and it takes me a long time to fill a trash can. I don’t want to take the trash out every day with a 90% empty bag. But leaving foot in the can until the bag is full causes flies and gnats. This allows me to dispose of my scrap food. Anyone who does this thinking they are saving the planet are idiots and need to find another religion! If you think buying something plastic that uses electric to do what you can do with a compost heap outside with no energy or plastic then you are the sucker the climate scam is aimed at. This is a convenience device.
If some think it’s a tool to virtue signal to the climate congregation then that’s on them.
How this lady thinks that was less than 2 ounces of water is beyond me. That was at least 4 ounces.
Make sure you buy things for the right reason. Making decisions based on following a cult idea like climate change will only cause you to make the same decision as your type people did before when they drove planet killing Prius while they pat themselves on the back while they think they are following something they have no clue about and running on faith of what they were told and believe. Which turns out to be counter productive to pollution every single time!

I like your thinking. I cannot wait to hear you complain soon about "HONEY, TAKE OUT THE TRASH" orders from your other half.
