Sonic Unleashed (HD) - Eggmanland loading times comparison

- PS3 on-disc, PS3 digital, 360 on-disc, 360 digital/downloaded, Xbox One, Xbox Series X on the SSD. How long does each take to load the longest level in the game?
A few updates:
1) PS3 load times are wildly inconsistent across different consoles and sessions.
2) The PS3 Internal clip was of the Japanese version with the disc installed to the hard drive. The proper digital version isn't significantly longer or shorter, and official firmware versus custom/hybrid firmware makes no difference.
3) Xbox Series S loads just as fast as Series X.

I must say, the PS3 version of Sonic Unleashed is great. It is easier to play when buttons appear. It also has better graphics

I was about to say. My son's copy of Sonic Unleashed loads between 18 and 25 Seconds in Eggmanland. He has the Disc version of Sonic Unleashed for the PlayStation 3.

Unfortunately, it's not on the backwards compatibility list for Xbox One/Series X and probably never will be. Still, we can hope at least.

If 06 does become compatible in the future, then it better have some very fast loading screens on Series X. Faster than any other Sonic game, because that game really needs it oooof.

Xbox One X: ~6 Secs
Xbox One: ~15 Secs
360 HDD: ~16 Secs
360 Disc: ~20 Secs
PS3 Internal: ~28 Secs
PS3 Disc: ~33 Secs
In my view, the worst of the load times in this game are when you're going in and out of the city and level gate hub areas. In the 360 version, it's almost instant. Just a few seconds. In the PS3 version, it's around 3 times as long if my memory serves. It's so rough.
Damn. Looking at the PS3 load speed makes me glad I grew up with a Xbox 360 😂
It’s cos the Cell processor is hard to get much power out of. It’s more powerful than the 360 but the processor in the 360 is easy to get power out of that’s why loading times are better
The PlayStation 3 also runs on 60 FPS. It's like you said, because the PS3s hardware was top strong, but getting the power out of it was hard. That's also the problem why the game gets frame rate problems, cuz it tried to reach and hold the 60 FPS in some games such as Sonic Unleashed, Grand Theft Auto IV(I believe, but ain't sure) and even Dead Space.

Eggman land was one of the maps that i played the most. But i dont remember waiting too much for playing it.
This is actually making me wanting a Xbox Series X, but at same time, I will mostly just use it for Banjo-Kazooie, Sonic, and nothing else. (Maybe I can find another used for a Xbox if I ever get one, but it's mostly just be those 2 game series and that it.)

i think if u cracked open a 360 harddrive and were to change the HDD in there to an SSD it could match series load times and eggmanland switch speed

Yeah it’s probably cos they couldn’t get much speed out of the Cell processor in the PS3. That thing was hard to crack

@@Abdelrahma. Ps3 uses Vsync, meaning it tries to run at the displays refresh rate. A Ps3 however, cannot run Sonic unleashed at 60fps as the game is built to run at 30fps; breaking the game. This is why half the glitches and slowdown you see in the PS3 version aren't nearly as bad as the Xbox 360 version. The PS3 also stores its games in its entirety and uses little compression on Blu-ray discs, making load times longer. Since Sonic unleashed is only about 6gb and a DVD is 4 GB, it fairs pretty well on Xbox.
I think there's something wrong with your disc version of Sonic Unleashed for PS3 mine loads a little faster on eggmanland.
I wonder if this has changed after the next gen 60fps update with the Series version.
Load times are unchanged. Aside from the obvious, the only things FPS boost affect are a few speedrun strategies.
How does it load on a PS3 Super Slim with a SSD?

Side note but I do wish Unleashed had title cards for levels just like most other Sonic games instead of these Miles Electric load screens.
This game got updated to load and run faster and smoother on Xbox one and series systems

@@OfficialDiffy Yeah I know, that's the "update" the game got Its literally called the "April fools" update of the game and it was mainly for the Xbox One version. Also Sega released the patch for the Xbox One X enhanced version of the game.

When sonic goes into a werehog its instant on the series x.
It takes like 3 seconds on Xbox 360 and one, and it's no different on ps3, because sonics form is changed in real time rather than loading new assets

@@Groudon0199 If you were using the One X model instead, the loading would be somewhat faster than the regular model, although it will never load as fast as Series X.

@@GareBearGamingDood Changing characters in towns and entrance stages still shows the loading screen and it's not any faster. Changing characters in Eggmanland stage is almost instant.

I imagine playing older games with better loaf times and fps isnt the major factor in people getting these consoles lol but its a nice bonus

I have the game installed on my PS3's HDD (which is jailbroken) and it has NEVER taken that long to load Eggmanland...not sure if the "PS3 Internal" you're using is the "PSN" port or the game copied from a disc to the hard drive.

It sounds more likely that PS3 load times are inconsistent in general.
@@Groudon0199 I have all versions but I use the slim the most and it loads faster than it does in your video. Sometimes it even loads faster than the 360. It changes all the time

Wow I played the PS3 disc version and knowing what I know now, I played the worst version (Wii and PS2 notwithstanding).
Just remaster the damn game for Ps5, Xbox series X and PC. Instead of us still playing the 2008 version in 2024. Literally all they have to do. These consoles have the power to handle the framerate now.

this makes me think that the hd version of sonic unleashed was intended only on xbox at first but then they added the ps3 version at the last second. That would explain why the ps3 version is so laggy. More than in the xbox despite ps3 being more powerful than xbox 360
most ps3 games were poorly optimised because no one could develop on it well. Thats why back then you would hear about so many ps3 games being worse off than the xbox counterparts. It was a more powerful system but it was wasted due to how hard it was to develop for

my Xbox 360 is a super slim 2015 and my Sonic unleashed is digital media and it doesn't take that long to load, it's about 5 to 6 seconds

The only issue with the 360 version is that it’s capped at 30fps while the PS3 was able to go to 60FPS (when possible) and had more smoothing for the motion, the shading was a bit more pixelated I think that the 360’s shading was smoother and the colors were better in the 360 from what I’ve heard
@@Yoshifan1219 Nah x360 version is much better because it doesn't have those huge frame drops almost every time. X360s frame rate is almost constant with several frame drops trough some stages but ps3 version is ughhh laggy. Go try yourself and you will see the difference.

@@Yoshifan1219 Well yes the ps3 can go to 60fps, it cannot handle that 60fps though and this is why the game usually runs 20fps in stages and just barely 60 in Aptos hub world. The larger amount of assets loaded also doesn't help the ps3. Also considering the game doesn't have access to 100% of the PS3's CPU, it doesnt have the option to even reach 60fps even when you think it should.

Eggmanland is bigger than any other stage in the game. That's why I used it for the video instead of, say, Windmill Isle act 1. That stage isn't gonna take half a minute to load.

Don't have a PS5. Even if I did, the game is only playable on it via streaming through PS Now. I doubt there would be any performance improvements other than reduced latency.
