You explained this so well that I will always remember...cDEXA, same machine each time and always ask for something you want when someone is pressing you to buy their product! I love it! Thank you for a great video, Dr. Barbie! Hugs and love from Maria! 🧜🏼♀️💜
I had my first Central DEXA scan done recently. The technician said that it didn't cover the wrists or hands, only the hips and lower spine. It isn't covered by insurance but under certain conditions, our public health care system does cover it. Not the most expensive scan. The technician indicated 'white female' on my scan results instead of my correct ethnicity. I called up to ask if that actually affects the results since I understand that different ethnicity may have different ranges for certain measurements of our body. She said nope. That salesman who sold you the DEXA scan machine is so adorable! That mermaid costume is very pretty and he went the extra mile to even call your office for your measurements, good salesman!!!
I had a OUS done on my heel.I was diagnosed with osteoporosis .To be sure,I decided to have a DEXA done.I was diagnosed with Osteopenia. It was a relief ,I felt that I had time to prevent osteoporosis. The collegue who did the QUS told me that the OUS was comparable to the DEXA.Not true as you confirmed.

You're too cute for words! I'm 53 and asked my MD about a bone density test and she told me the standard age for insurance coverage was 65. I was shocked and didn't get one. Thanks for all your enthusiastic and informative videos.
Wow! what a bargain health insurance is lol. I thought it was bad that my employer wants to pay me $1200 a month and take $1500 a month out of my pay of course forcing me to sign that piece of paper that I says I don't want & refuse group health insurance coverage, I guess it protects my employer. I always thought it was silly to go hungry to pay for something that I might need every few months for a minor emergency and antibiotics which will total $100 bucks if it happens. Wow! standard age is 65? Thats really poor quality healthcare and you pay a bunch for that.
I think these tests are (relatively) inexpensive - only a few hundred dollars (I think ?) here in the USA. I understand even that is a lot for some people and apologize if my comment seems insensitive to them but, for many people, that is not outrageously expensive when you consider it is only once and the long term benefits. I think we (or at least I) have just gotten so used to depending on insurance that until recently it wouldn't have occured to me that I should pay out of my own pocket for a medical test. But why not, assuming you can afford to do so? I used to regularly pay over a hundred dollars (on a secretary's salary!) to have my hair cut and colored and, truthfully, which is more important, your roots or your long term bone health? (Update: I just did a quick search and found that the test costs around $125 US.)
@@annramsey7907 Some insurance can stink for sure but I am very happy with mine - I love my doctors plus it pays for all my serious needs, including my bioidentical HRT, at a fraction of the cost. I probably would have to pay for a Dexa test if I wanted one (I haven't asked) but those aren't very expensive and I don't begrudge it...I appreciate some people do have terrible experiences with insurance but not everyone does.
@@christinemack2153 My pleasure. I'm guessing it could vary depending on where you live and you might need to shop around but, at least from the quick search I did, it isn't outrageously expensive. Best of luck.

I went and checked what scan I am booked in for and it is called Dexa(BMD) hopefully that is just another name for central. They scan your back and hip but you apparently have to move position. Hopefully the radiation is still low with this one.
I have a question. I know the age to get the DEXA is 65 for women... but shouldn't it be earlier if you have a family history of osteoporosis?? From what I have read, you can get the DEXA at an earlier age if you have a family history of hip fractures but what about spinal fractures? I am 55 and my mom took osteoporosis medications (Fosomax) when she was in her 60s and 70s. She fell and broke some bones in her spine at age 83 and my maternal grandmother had a curvature of her spine at age 91. Should I be getting a scan now at age 55 just as a BASELINE?
if you watch all these osteoporosis videos in order (there are 35 of them), you will know absolutely everything. But you will also be able to answer your own question with LOGIC. The key is to understand what "guidelines" are. They are NEVER about your personally. They are about the whole population and they are always based on money. You deserve peace of mind. Never sacrifice your peace of mind for anybody or any thing. If you want a DEXA scan, get one. Pay for it. They cost about $200 - $300 and take 5 minutes. It's the easiest test you'll ever have. But PLEASE watch all these videos in order. And if you want me to tailor all the facts specifically to YOU, schedule a consultation with me at MenopauseTaylor.ME. Definitely schedule a consultation after you have your DEXA results I will interpret it for you. If it were up to me, all women would get a DEXA scan at age 50.
