    I totally agree with the 'taking a break'. I do it when I feel stuck or unsatisfied. If I am not happy with what I see, I take a break because it literally takes time for the brain to save what we learn. There was research done where students who slept before a final test: performed better than those that studied without sleep during their time before the test. After you have relaxed your mind doing something you enjoy - and make sure you enjoy it. The idea being that you need to achieve a moment where your mind is focused on something so much that you forget your picture. Make sure you set a reminder or a timer so that you don't totally forget about the art. But by doing this, you will see the picture from a new perspective. I often worry that I ruined the picture, but after doing the above technique: I return and realize I actually improved the painting. Not everyone will have the same experience: but for me, I find that my best art occurs when I feel inspired. Making mistakes is how you calibrate your mind - do I like this? do I not like this? And mistakes are a blessing because they show you something - and when you understand why you do not like something - you are actually solving your problem - because you are stating the problem. The thing that you do not like is the problem and the solution could be the absence or the inversion of the mistake. Sometimes my mistakes actually become part of my finished art work because what I thought was a mistake - actually becomes a new understanding of the logic as to what I can do or what I need to change. Nearly every electronic device that I buy from china breaks - as a result I have learned basic electronics just from tinkering. Likewise - when I make mistakes in my art - I have to fix it and that is because when I realized there was a problem/mistake - I learned in my mind why it is a mistake and thereby realize how to fix it or improve it.

      Thanks for sharing, I completely agree! All in all the fun is more in the process than the actual results.👍👍

    Love the graphic where there is almost fire coming out....LOL! This has been very good advice. I think sometimes we are very hard on ourselves and expect too much especially when older and learning. Thank you very much for addressing this subject and thank you the person who asked the question. (Finally old enough to actually listen to the teacher....😁)

      😂😂👍Well said, when you think of it, what a strange beings we are😅We set these high goals and hammer down on ourselves on the way up and when we've reached what we wanted, we don't even see it because we've already got other expectations 🤣

    Regarding comparing ourselves, it's not only the skills and experience of the artists, which of course is the main thing, but also the equipment will also make a difference. There is surely a difference in having just the right brushes and top quality paint, the right colors, and using canvas than painting with our limited, mediocre stuff on paper, let's say. The disadvantages multiply and no wonder we can't do what they can.

    • @toon-nagtegaal
      @toon-nagtegaal  2 месяца назад

      Yes absolutely that makes a difference! But sadly, I encounter a lot of people that already have rather good materials and they paint one stroke on the canvas and immediately think it isn't good. And instead of just continuing they start searching the internet for hours to look for other equipment. That's a bit of a pitfall. 👍🎨
