  • Housing experts we interviewed estimate about 2 in 10 renters in Louisville are at risk of eviction. But they say there’s no way of knowing exactly how many evictions are happening. It’s because some of them are illegal, or outside of the court system.
One man in our area showed us how he’s been impacted by eviction. And while it left him hopeless, his family told us over the phone that as a result of our investigation, he now has hope.
71-year-old Cortez Simpson tell us he had been in the hospital for about a month. When he came home, he said his landlord locked him out.

If the landlord only takes rent in cash run away. Always by check, cashiers check, or money order and always get proof.

It doesn't matter, they had rights that where violated. Something has to be done about that. This story is sad because many people are suffering today needlessly and this system is not working like it use to and it's never been perfect. But today it could be anyone of us for any number of reasons. They whole world 🌎 is in a mess it doesn't matter if you rich or poor. The rich feel protected because they use money to solve all their problems. Looking around lately I don't think anyone rich or poor has much of a chance these days. You have just be thanking the creator if you woke and went to bed with all things going your way.

So we waited and they eventually paid rent. There was a month delay. Please use the programs. Evicting people is a last resort. Also since they are elderly and sick you can not evict them . They can suffer greatly from displacement stress and die. I have seen this happen working with elders. Please consider elders in a different way and be patient.

Tenants who don't pay rent needs to get out ASAP, in the past I rented a room in my house to this dude who suddenly refuses to pay rent which is even much more scarier, I had enough and throw all his crap outside the house when he's not home and change all the locks. Don't sympathize with these people, intense background checks are always required on all applicants. I don't rent to people over sixty five, because there is a chance that they would die in the house.

I'm going to be honest that and I saw the headlines of this story I thought for sure that this was another case of people taking advantage of the situation we find ourselves in.
There are way too many stories out there about people who decided just to stop paying rent since they cannot get evicted.
This story is none of that. This man got robbed and I cannot believe that the landlord will get away with this.
My heart breaks for these people. I really wish there was something I could do. I would think that the gentleman who was evicted illegally should be able to go to the police and press charges of set and breaking and entering. As the lawyers said that all evictions has to go through the court. It's obvious this did not happen in this case and I would think all the actions of the landlord should be illegal. What's the stop him from going in to someone's home when they are working or in this case in the hospital and stealing all their belongings. These kind of people need to be stopped.
I pray for this whole entire family I just became lost for words at the end. God bless them and I hope that things have gotten better for them.

Found another apartment 2,035 a month, over $700 increase. When the new company took over, they started government subsidizing, turned into a welfare ghetto. The best thing about the increase,it separated the class of tenants..just that alone was worth the move, they did me a favor by not renewing my lease, seems like they would want people who pay their rent when it's due, dosent make good business sense.

The landlord is not their family or parents. That moratorium should of been illegal to do to landlords but if the government wanted to have a moratorium then they need to pay all these peoples bills not make us landlords pay. It's so crazy. I have done 3 evictions so far in the last year and every single tenant stopped paying rent and destroyed my property costing me thousands and thousands of dollars. So is the government going to pay us back for all the loss? They can't pay their bills with a poor me story, either pay like everyone else in the world does or get out.

Asians are ruling the middle class out; plenty of buildings being empty due to high pay rent and the owners are not even in US. Many homelessness on the street. But, have you observed that you almost never see Asians on street. In California, Korea town protested against homeless people, and told them to get a house. A little bit of empathy goes a long way.

I feel so sorry for this family.
But the rent money still needs to be paid. 14 grandchildren yet no family could assist? What did the son in law do to help his elderly couple l?
The landlord still needs to pay for his mortgage. If he owned this place and didn't pay his mortgage for 3 months the bank would have confiscated the property also.

He was never behind in rent. The owner is lying and the renter and wife was in the hospital. Go back and watch and noticed the owner stated he kicked him out due to he was scared he was going to get a citation due to trash outside while the renters was in the hospital. The renter can’t prove it bc he paid cash and the owner never gave him receipts. The owner kicked them out while him and his wife was in the hospital. It’s sad and his karma will come to him‼️

Landlords are considered the "greater" party, and the tenant, good or bad, is the "lesser" party. Almost all landlords own at least 2 homes/housing units. I don't know many landlords that rent their own homes so I think it's safe to assume landlords own their own home, as well as the spare unit they choose to rent out. The renter - owns nothing. Nothing. Even if the home the landlord rents out is destroyed by the renter, they are still way better off than than the destroyer cause they have the home they live in. After their grief, they can go home and cry about it. And likely can salvage something from the destroyed property. They also probably have equity, lines of credit, and all the benefits that come from owning property. The renter owns nothing. They no longer have a home to go cry about their situation. I'm assuming that's why the violins don't come out for landlords who are having a hard time. Sure, it sucks. But ask any one of them if they'd trade places with their renter?

Bs. I owned 100 acres lands in the middle of America. I want my lands to be nuclear test sites as business and they said no. Why not? It's my property and if I want my property to be test site and make profit.
My property and I can do whatever I need make profit from my property. We need Islamic Emirate states of America with sharia laws for freedom for all.

Famous people like entertainers are usually struggling themselves. They are only a couple of payments away from hitting rock bottom. They owe too much money themselves to everybody to keep up the lying image that they are rich, so somebody may need to step in to help them eventually when things get too tight and reality sets in. Like the above post said, it is going to take us “regular people” to help each other…

If tenants can't or won't pay the landlord has no recourse but to evict. Landlords often have mortgages on the property, plus taxes, insurance, and ongoing maintenance.

    • @THEREALSOURCE
      @THEREALSOURCE 2 года назад +2

Not a justification to illegally evict someone. Landlord still has to follow due process, even for non-payment of rent. The came 2 weeks after being locked out, not before. So there was no warning. That's illegal.

    • @eattherich9215

'If tenants can't or won't pay the landlord has no recourse but to evict.' Did you even watch this video?
The landlord's assertion that the tenants were in default cannot be proved since he insists on cash and does not issue receipts. Further the slumlord did not go through a legal eviction process, but served the papers THREE weeks AFTER he emptied the tenants' home and locked them out.

It's a sad situation on both sides renters need to be paid they want the homes kept up but at the same time a lot of landlords don't keep the places up either some places aren't even clean when you move in.
