It brings back memories of a family holiday back in 1970 when the summerland holiday complex was under construction. Little did we know what would happen 3years later.
It just wouldn't be the 90's, without LWR Atlantic 252 (happy days of growing up listening to that station in Wales, during the Summer months). Still sorely missed... I absolutely adore the island; first went there as a kid in 1994, making return visits in 2002 and 2005, before coming over on a yearly basis since 2011 (with exception of the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020). The prom's seen a great deal of change over the years, but not necessarily for the better. Current lack of horse trams to the Sea Terminal, for instance... Thanks for posting!
I made this video, on an old Hitachi 2300 fullsize vhs camera, that cost £1200 ,how thing change eh, you get better quality off a £100 camera phone now...!
Its brill. Boosh gave me a load of VHS's to pop onto DVD for him last year i think maybe earlier. I couldnt stop watching this and asked him if I could upload it and he said yes. I hope that was ok.
I can remember walking along that prom back in 1970 with my parents and cousins. The only difference back then was the summerland holiday complex was under construction.
I think it says something about how amazing the Isle of Man is. in 22 years, the Isle of Man hasnt really changed much. and in this day an age, thats very amazing.
My video from 1991,I take it my bruv has had it converted to a digital format,so it could be put on here, filmed on a Hitachi 2100 Full size VHS if my memory serves me right...!

It's hard to believe that was 30 years ago. Well done 👏.

Glad you did James, its amazing to see what we have lost on the prom, about the only thing left is the Villa/Gaiety complex..!
There are so many small differences but the prom has hardly changed!! I was nearly 2 when this video was recorded.

Wish summer land was still here

Ah, the memories.. What a great place to put a bus station!
No way! I left the island in 1990 and its sad to see no bus station, crescent arcade and summer land when I visit now
This is fantastic! Although I was shouting at you to zoom out when you went past the Villiers :)
I love the IOM
It's funny how all of the cars are just glorified rectangles on wheels xD
