My friend sp engineer Ed Fitzgerald. I miss him back in the sp days and at the harbor belt line

Those were wonderful times, and I was fortunate to have Ed as a friend that allowed me access to things I would have never been able to get on my own. He also introduced me to many other wonderful SP employees that also allowed me to ride along and take photos and video.

Yes, that was 1991. The speed lettered GP60 was only 5 months old. Thank you for posting.

Christopher Clipper yes, I found the exact date in my notes - October 13, 1991 - which I have added to the description. Thank you for your comment!

    Great video!
Nice to see train crews, not just the equipment.

Thank you for the comment. I should have filmed more of the people around the railroad, but a thought always in the back of my mind was whether they wanted to be filmed or not. That being said, only on one occasion was I chewed out for filming one of the workers. He let me know he was not happy with it, even though I had met him a few times before and knew that I did take pictures and sometimes also did video.

Man, you caught some really neat things in your videos back then. Aside from the cool engines and paint schemes, you caught one of the RR police cabooses too. I saw that caboose in the middle of a stack train somewhere near Cabazon probably in 1991. The last ever caboose that I saw on the rear of a through freight (not counting some locals later) was in San Timoteo Canyon, also in 1991.

I have some more video with cabooses, though even then they were getting pretty rare. SP police cabooses were pretty common due to rashes of thefts from container trains that occurred particularly if a train got delayed in the sketchier blocks of south LA, particularly Watts and Slauson. So the SP started putting a contingent of police on eastbound stack trains out of ICTF as a countermeasure.

I slowly be working my way through your vids as time allows. I can't wait to see all of the goodies from the window of your time machine! Thanks for posting these and you were lucky to have the access you did back then. 👍👍

UP now has cameras in the Lincoln Heights area for the container thieves after the tracks were littered with pilfered packages , where Gov. Newsom came out for a photo op. like he was helping to clean up the mess in 2022.

Hoping to reach the channel owner. Pentrex is working on a SP show, and this video, and one other you have on the channel, would be a great extra to use in the show. We'd pay for the footage. Contact us at info@pentrex.com Thank you!

Matlack Inc. tank trailers start of video. Was at one time one of the largest bulk chemical transporters in the USA. Does anyone know what cross street or location info?

The video was shot at SP Dolores Yard, Carson, California and the ICTF, bordered by Alameda St on the east side, Carson St on the north side, and Sepulveda blvd on the south end of the ICTF. Thanks for watching and for taking the time to comment
