    Great idea to have shared EQ for crunch/lead rather than clean/crunch. I can't say for others but I usually set up my crunch and lead channels quite similarly. Having and independent EQ for cleans makes it so I can have a usable clean channel by itself without having to redial anything when I switch to crunch or lead. I wish more amp makers did that!

    EDIT: NOT SURE WHERE THE AMP IS MADE. DOING MORE RESEARCH NOW.
    We were promised it was going to be made in USA... Which may have justified the $1900 price tag. But hearing stories of some reliability issues is enough for me to stay away from this Chinese risk. I'd much rather grab a 5150 III for $100 less. Made in mexico (might have switched production to vietnam now) and three channels with FULL EQ control.

  • @TobyKBTY
    @TobyKBTY 6 лет назад +2

    Had the privilege of trying one along with other high-end amps when I went on vacation in Japan a couple of weeks ago. To be honest, I had a lot of trouble dialing it in. I thought it would be as simple as 12-noon knobs, moderate gain, then boost and gate for that modern sound. Except I got some weird, overly processed and sort of fuzzy gain no matter how much I tweaked the depth control, presence, EQ, etc. I really wanted to like it because its features are amazing. Maybe I just needed more time with it, but I ended up moving on to other amps and having MUCH more fun with an OG 5150 (mean sounding as fuck), an ENGL Invader 2 (tighter than a nun), and the Mesa Triple Crown (meaty as hell) also in the same store.
    All three seemed to be loud as sin, but could handle lower volumes and balls better than the Invective. Although I am very willing to accept that I just dialed the damn thing wrong and moved on quickly lmao.
    With that said, this demo does sound good. Wasn't a big fan of Ola's demo because I heard that overly processed, pure fuzzy pre-gain sound I experienced in person but I'd love to try give the amp another chance if I come across another one.

Plus, I'd like to hear an EVH 6l6 too. You never reviewed it. Take the evh el34/6l6 and dial the mids down all the way, treble up and bass up. A metal player from Seattle showed me that. This amp sounds great...until I compared it to a Mesa Triple Crown. The Mesa's cleans are so much more pleasant and the other channels are as good if not better IMO. The peavey might possibly sit better in a mix as it has a lot of mids, especially when you have really low tuned guitars and 7s and 8s and what not....but we spent the whole night trying to get the Peavey to sound like the Mesa...rather than the other way around. You can almost make the Mesa sound however you want, the Peavey..if you don't love how it sounds...there isn't a ton you can do.
    Still a great amp with a lot of great features...but the Mesa is only slightly more expensive and it's the much more versatile amp IMO. I canceled my Invective order (partly because it kept getting delayed...and pushed back a month each time) and ordered a TC-50 instead.
    Cool story bro I know...

    • @VIRAEMIAPHXAZ
      @VIRAEMIAPHXAZ 6 лет назад +7

      Actually I really appreciate this observation. I have been wanting to know how the TC sounds compared to other amps. I’ve got a Mesa Roadking II and it’s very versatile as well (120 something combinations of tones) but it is still a rectifier; therefore, it still has the flubby lows for extended guitars without a boost. For some stupid reason I’m kinda a purist when it comes to amps. I prefer not to have to use a boost if possible.

    • @grassfedgerbils8506
      @grassfedgerbils8506 6 лет назад +3

      Josh Hernandez I like being able to shape my tone however fits the song and not. The Invective seems to have a good amount of compression on the clean channel. Nothing wrong with that, but you can’t turn it off either. I tend to prefer minimal compression if any at all on cleans. I at least want to control it.
      The TC just has such a higher definition on the clean channel. It’s like good headphones vs amazing headphones. It doesn’t sound bad, in fact it sounds better than a lot of amps clean channel, but the Mesa sounds way better. Idk that it’s even a matter of taste, it just sounds better. Much more clarity.
      The invective more or less has a precision drive built in. Great feature, but I already have that pedal.
      I’d much rather add a pedal to get the sound I want and be in full control than be sorta stuck with a certain tone.
      That’s just sorta how I feel about the invective. I get why it was designed the way it was, but if you don’t love the sound, IMO there isn’t a whole lot you can do. It’s almost versatile in a narrow scope if that makes sense. For Periphery, totally see the thought process. You got three guitarists, low tunings, and you need something to cut.
      Again it’s a bad ass amp, it sounds great and has a lot of features.
      For me, once I heard the Mesa, there was no going back. What works in the studio doesn’t always translate and vice versa...maybe the Invective shines more there. For just jamming, the Mesa all day.
      The built in reverb on the TC-100 also sounds amazing. Really smooth spring reverb that doesn’t have that annoying twang at the end that a lot springs do. It’s only there if you max it. Which for me, that’s what I like. 🤷‍♂️
      Can always be like my buddy and have both 😂😂

      I got the chance to play a TC-50 at Sweetwater a couple months back, and was underwhelmed. The high gain channel is too fizzy on the top, and muddy on the bottom. The tight switch helps, but it cuts off too much bottom end, leaving the sound thin. I think I'll stick to a 5150 to get a 5150 sound.

  • @dan.murray

Crunch channel is my go to with the OD engaged tightens up the bottom end and pushes the mids, improved the clarity at rehearsals (lots of notes and metal riffing) channel 3 is set for leads. I love the 5150 sound, this is my favorite incarnation. I a/b with my 5150 ii and it's better imho. Not a huge fan of the emulated out. I prefer my v30 mesa 4x12 and 57 combo.

      I wouldn't consider mesa or orange of that much greater quality(if at all) than the invective. Even though it's a peavey(6505's and such are production, yes), these invectives are still being built in the USA, like mesa's(so I've heard, don't @ me). & Orange amps are mostly production, excluding a few of the pricier ones like the CS50(custom shop hand-wired). Friedman amps are all hand-wired, however the BE50 is mean't to be a cheaper variant of the BE100 for those who aren't able to spend(or flat out don't want to spend $3800 on another friedman). Overall the damn look of an amp shouldn't be a concern. Overall, tone matters way more than aesthetics.

    • @thedudeofficial69
      @thedudeofficial69 6 лет назад

      Oh gotcha. Got the feeling you were saying amps of higher quality that were in that same price range. But in all fairness, what I assumed still works with what amps you're mentioning. Thanks for clarification though. But still a BE50 is $3499, so that's out the window. & I like the mention of synergy. That stuff looks very interesting.

    • @goddessintriptych7046
      @goddessintriptych7046 6 лет назад

      My bad-edited that out- I meant that the results you get from miking a cab are more immediately awesome than going direct/using IR's/sims/etc. I just leave my mic setup the way it is, and wheel in the amp I need when recording.

      isolate your cab , find 2 spots on your speaker one for the low mid and treble guitars and one for the high mid and treble guitars . record your guitar or duplicate the track 4 times all in mono , then pan the tracks as follow
      low guitars 100 right 100 left , high guitars 68 left 68 right. compressor and 5 band amp eq would work magic along.

    Guys I have a quick question! Do you have to have a speaker plugged in to use the MSDI? I've been running the MSDI to my interface to do recordings but I don't want to have my 2x12 plugged in as it gets pretty damn loud. The manual also makes it seem that you can just bring your head to a Venue and plug in directly to the house. Thanks in ad advance! I've been reading the manual but it doesn't seem to answer that question.

    But most of these dudes do this on these "demos". But they're not demos. lol Ola caught hell for that after awhile (good hearted) cos every amp, pickup or pedal demo all sounded alike.
    So were really just sitting here watching him jam some stuff he made up. lol Tell me if Im wrong though.

    Could anyone provide a little insight please. Looking to pick one of these up locally. I currently use an axe fx and bypass the cab sim because i run ggd cali cab sims in my DAW to give me the flexibility of changing IR's without re-recording. The MSDI section of this amp already has a mic sim built in.... is there a way for me to run the raw amp tone into my axe fx and maintain the flexibility of using my own IR's in my daw? Do i need to run an attenuator to do so and if the output knob on the attenuator gets bumped i fry my axefx? Lol. If i do need an attenuator, any recommendations for this 120w beast? Ideally I'd like that option as well and being able to play it separately through my Randall cab at bedroom levels.... any help is appreciated 🙏
