Nice video! Big question, why crucial on amazon it says "internal ssd" meanwhile in your video is "external" ? if crucial ssd is internal which means we need to install inside the mac os right? but your title is external ssd. is that really works if i buy crucial internal ssd and connect to my mac with usb c cable?
@@JBehrMusic Thank you for the quick reply! Yes, I believe so, it is a 27-inch Apple Thunderbolt display. I believe it has both usb 3 and Thunderbolt connections. I am unsure about usb c. ? If you're open to it, I could email you a picture of the back of it, but it is a late 2014 Mac mini and looks like the manual picture from here: manuals.info.apple.com/MANUALS/1000/MA1687/en_US/mac-mini-late2014-qs.pdf
Good Video! I’ve been looking for something like this for Ableton. Load time for opening Kontakt is extremely long and that continues when opening analog strings or exhale etc.
I definitely hear what you're saying, and this helped me a lot in that area. If you can't afford an external SSD, you could also do a batch resave on all your kontakt libraries, but you would need to do each one individually.
J. Behr i just went ahead and purchase what you had. I actually went ahead with the 2 TB. I was actually about to pull the trigger on getting a ssd installed in my imac until I ran across your video. I didn’t know they had a external ssd. I opt out of paying for someone to come and install what I just purchased after watching you video. Looks fairly simple.
Rimix Wave Butter Awesome! The enclosure is really easy to install. It’s literally a slide out mechanism, no screws or hardware needed. Let me know if you have any questions after you got it setup.
Yes but they are significantly more expensive, since you'll need an NVME M.2 drive instead of a regular SSD within the enclosure. Something like this would be what you're looking for: www.amazon.ca/Thunderbolt-Enclosure-WAVLINK-Aluminum-Design-Included/dp/B07YB4DDRB/ As an example, manufacturers like Samsung sell portable NVME Thunderbolt 3 drives, such as this one: www.amazon.ca/SSD-portable-Samsung-X5-Thunderbolt/dp/B07GBGG68L/
@@JBehrMusic thanks for the respond. I am on MacOS. I couldn't find any instructions online, so I think I might just ask Arturia If it Is even possible.
I don't think that's possible. Most (if not all) plugins require the installation to be on your main hard drive (internally). But many of those plugins (kickstart, eqs, etc.) are fairly small in size anyways, so it's probably not too beneficial to install them to an external ssd.
Really overpriced IMO, since it's like $350 right? You can buy a Sabrent 1TB Rocket NVMe for $130, and then buy an OWC Envoy Express for $80. Save around $140 if you buy the parts separately. I'll paste some links. SSD: www.amazon.com/Sabrent-Rocket-Internal-Performance-SB-ROCKET-1TB/dp/B07LGF54XR/ --- Enclosure: eshop.macsales.com/shop/envoy-express/thunderbolt-3
You could save even more if you want to go with the Sabrent Q instead, which is slightly slower speeds, but not by much. Link here: www.amazon.com/Sabrent-Rocket-Internal-Performance-SB-RKTQ-1TB/dp/B07ZZYWTBP/

@@tri-unetrl3966 If you’re happy with it, it’s definitely a good external hard drive. But as I already stated, it’s a bit over priced compared to other options you have available.
That's a bit strange. I've personally never owned an iMac before, only a macbook and now mac mini. I don't know if that's normal for the fan to kick in on something like browser navigation. I'd assume not though.

J. Behr That’s what I’ve always heard. But even with all my sound libraries and projects on an external, I’m running out of room. I installed the entire Waves Platinum bundle and I started getting the dreaded pop up occasionally
CRASS2047 yeah, it’s kind of annoying that many of these plug-in bundles take up so much room. What’s your main hard drive size? I got a 256GB for my main drive and still have plenty of room.
J. Behr I have a late 2013 imac with the i7 processor and the original 1tb fusion drive was removed and a 256 gb ssd was installed. And the ram is maxed out at 32 I believe. Usually it can handle anything as long as I don’t try to add too many plugins during playback. As long as I remember to stop playback, I used to NEVER get the popup.

Do you think this external SSD upgrade would work on a late 2014 Mac mini? If so, any advice on the steps needed to install?

should I run vsts like Ableton and FL through an SSD?
Ableton and FL Studio aren’t VSTs, they are DAWs. You typically want those installed on your main internal hard drive.
How about going to thunderbolt 2 which is what I have on my Imac 2012
