I have two different sized choppers made in 80crv2 I’m very impressed with this simple steel. Very stable fine edge holding and tough. It’s a proper knife. Many more expensive knives are just hyped.
@@joexThanks! I have had it for a while and used it quite a bit. It's built like a tank, with zero frills, and it gets the job done. Fantastic knife and the sheath is amazing.
The high carbon steel (sourced from a Finish blade maker) used in Terava knives is the reason for their great toughness. Of course, as with most knives, the owner's responsibility is to take care of them (unlike JoeX :) ). That is, since high carbon, low chromium steels will easily rust, keep them dry in storage and oil the blade regularly. And definitely don't use it as a diving knife. This knife is an example of how a knife, not made of a "super steel", can still perform outstandingly in most respects.
Unlike the kabar, this knife doesn’t have 90 degree transitions into the rat tail which is why the kabars always break at the hilt and this one held up due to the curvatures at the transition from the blade to the tang. Great knife, great design and video!!
I know some people have experienced rusting or corrosion with this steel , but I've used both my JP110's and my Skrama 240 extensively in Louisiana, all seasons, in 98% humidity, put them back in the sheath without cleaning or oiling for weeks and months at a time, and I've never seen a bit of rust. At most, I've seen some black patina from certain plants... But zero rust.
Still dying of curiosity to see how Cold Steel's Drop Forged 52100 steel knives would do, either the Hunter (inexpensive, small knife) or the Survivalist (big Bowie style). Also the Recon Scout in 3V and Tops Operator 7 but I understand they are quite expensive. Keep up the good work
At DBK the dropforged Bowie wasn't a bliss. Maybe wrong heattreatment or tempering, mabe also too high temperature when drop forged so that the crystal structure already was phucked first place.
Early last month, I want to buy this knife because I think it is more tough than Mora (so its called Mora killer) or any other 1095 knives. Besides, it reaches 59 HRC, harder than other 1095 knives. I didn't buy it actually just because it is a high carbon knife which is not reliable in my country. My country is an island with high humidity. I still highly recommend the knife though it is still destroyed by you in the end, as what you do every time.
it will rust as shit 4 sure, i forgot one someday outside, little bit raining, rusty as a table dance bar in the asian jungle...haha, but it is much better for survival then the Moras!!! cheers!
Just gonna put this out there: I own 2 of these, and also a Skrama 240 in 80CrV2. I live in Louisiana, where humidity is EXTREME. I haven't had a single speck of rust on any of them, and I have used them, stuck them back in the sheath, and let them sit for months without cleaning or oiling.
You have just sold that knife to me!😊 There is the same problem with almost all tough knives: Steel is exposed in fulltang knives. That will freeze my hand when I need to use the knife when it's very cold. It's not easy to find a tough knife without exposed steel tang. Esee 4 is great, but I could imagine how difficult it would be to use it in winter.
I’m a big fan of that steel and knife. Everything has trade off I believe 80cv is very good if you use it. If you want a go on weekend knife then maybe not. Mostly because of rust. Edge retention is amazing and it took a hell of a beating. Have a good one brother
I have watched many reviews of these and you managed to pronounce the name closest so far. There is of course the ä which doesn't exist for most countries but also puukko is pronounced completely differently compared to english; double u is double the length of one u so longer vowel sound then a slight pause and normal single hard k/c sound.
@@joex Alright. There are also models which have holes in the tang which should prevent this issue. This sliding happens easily with some chopping, when the tang is totally straight. I read more accounts of this happening.
@@ragamuffin1588 A few on the internet. But not many. Though I didn't read, look up, on that particular knife much. So, I'm not sure how often it does occur. I would find it annoying, a handle sliding on the tang.
