I dont think people really understand how this pays a role in not just boxing but in any sport. People think that being nervous or a little scared is like a bad thing, but it's really normal, the difference is the greats know how to control it. For me, it still kind of holds me back in my performance. Love this video, and thanks for really describing the mental part of the game.
What you are calling zen is what is also known as mushin, the mind of no mind, that is, the mind is simply aware of what is going on and not trying to analyze and plan and think about what's going on or what "ought" to be going on. My coach has been telling me I am "overthinking things" and I just need to "do it" and "let it happen" instead of trying to mentally plot everything that is going on in the ring. Good video.
wow unbelieveble.. i used to struggle with this for a long time now. I used to be scared sparring people who were bigger, stronger or just better then me. so i watched many many many videos. i did read the mike tyson undisputed truth and i learned alot from that book. so i thought mike tyson did not feel fear because of the anger he had in him. so i started using the anger i had in me.. it did not help me to get the results i wanted to see.. instead i became pissed all the time and i started to think really negatively. i wanted to really hurt people. but i started to feel bad after i did hurt people. i started rocking people while sparring regularry. there were days that my sparring partner left the gym because of me. the anger started to consume me. the worst one was when i knocked a guy out and i felt like a rush of adrenaline and anger mixed.. it was weird i did not feel guilty. so thats when i stopped being that way. then later i became too soft and the same scared fighter i used to be. so a month ago before i went on vacation after i listened a podcast where uncle mike talked about fear and him loving fear. so i started to ask myself what if i start think of fear that way. and wow that was the first time i was beating up someone i was scared and intimidated of. i felt so good because i did not close up.. i actually fought back and i realised he was scared of me too. Hearing this from you is amazing!! PLEASE KEEP MAKING VIDEOS !!! i learned alot alot from you. i wrote some notes and i will use this way of controlling my fear. Can i have your socials maybe such as instagram so i can contact you.

love you man, i tried to use the peekaboo style last time i sparred and i cornered my opponent by keeping the peekaboo stance and coming aggressively at him ,but i started thinking what do i do now and then completely abandoned the peekaboo style and just slugged it out, if i had seen this video i would have done better. i am going to watch all your videos and train hard
This Saturday, I face my hardest opponent yet. I needed this video. Thank you. Hes really a punk too so i especially wanna beat him & especially dont want to lose
thanks so much for the video. Can u please make a video on angles or shifting or common peakaboo combos in the future? Also i have no idea how this channel is so underated it is very good
U need to be ready for the worst case scenario if u want the best way not to be indimidated. This can't always be ur mentality, such as in sparring coz u won't go far. But when theres a fight u gotta be ok with the idea of what if things go south and every punch hurts or destroy u or kills u. U gotta be able to accept that n if u do u will fight with no restrictions. Jon jones said it on one of his interviews. If u can get to that difficult mental point then ur good to go
Hello coach I have a question about the Tyson jab you see I’m 5,6 and those who are at my gym that I’m sparring with them they’re 5,8-5,10 they always get me with the jab and what I don’t understand is Mike Tyson was 5,10 and he was jabbed guys 6,2 I’ll really appreciate it if you could break it down
You do two steps with slip then throw jab with step In common you do three steps, two slips, one jab Or you do jab first, two slips with steps, jab with step
Carter you mention about your mentor whom I presume is George Young ? Why dont you ever mention George Young by name ? Secondly I am assuming that you have been teaching the style for a while. You mention that there has not been any champions seen Mike Tyson because have not been taught the style properly since Teddy Atlas left the gym. You know the style so my question is have you produced any champions and if so are there any youtube clips we can watch on your champions ?
@@jeromeicle0Nope haha, even the youngest kids in that documentary are all in their mid 40s to early 60s. I was trained and mentored by some of those who trained under Teddy and Cus, who were present in that documentary. Now, I teach what they were taught way back then.
