Thanks for this. I live in PHX and was at this show. This was the best they ever sounded with Augeri and could've avoided the Steve Augeri era and eventual voice implosion altogether had Deen stepped into that role . This show was 25 yrs ago and Deen has only gotten better both as a drummer and as a singer. It's been a privilege to know him and to witness the outstanding musician he's become. God bless him for hanging in there and staying out of the drama and bullshit that has taken place with this once incredible band. And God bless Neal for everything he's done for him when he was at his lowest and giving him another chance to further his career and continue working in this biz .
I recall seeing Journey live (on this tour) in Louisville KY and was blown away by Mr. Augeri. Like many others, as a longtime Journey fan I was ecstatic that Journey was finally touring after 12 years of being idle. Unfortunately my opinion of SA's vocals changed over the next few tours and by the mid 2000's his voice was completely shredded.
Holy crap. I have to admit, I missed it the first time around. Somewhere, I can’t remember where, Deen mentioned how people used to accuse them using Perry’s background vocals, and they weren’t legally allowed to. When they used the canned background vocals, he recorded all of the parts beforehand. 😳
The album’s with Augeri were excellent and very underrated. Believe it or not IMHO Jeff Scott Soto and Deen sounded great together. Jeff would’ve given them more of an edge and it would have been interesting to see how that worked in the studio. Ya gotta admit Jeff had balls to jump in and replace Augeri. Just saying
The response from Neal was that Journey was about the voice more than anything. He was suggesting that VH was all about Eddie, so a complete change in vocals wasn't an issue. Think they felt Perry locked them into their sound and JSS, while a great singer, didn't sound enough like Steve P. to continue to be successful / make money touring.
What's wrong with talking about Steve Augeri's voice? it's the purest truth the first 3 years were amazing at a high level, then he just lost his voice :P
@@GabrielOlympic I didn’t say there was something “wrong” with talking about it. I’m saying for once I would like to see positive comments under a video based on the specific performance (way before he started having vocal problems.) Yes, it’s a known fact, but it’s just a smattering of negativity that just seems to negate the compliment. It’s like saying about a photo of an actor in his prime, “He is really handsome, then he got some sort of tumor on his face.” (To be fair, yours touched on regret. I get that. I don’t see that as super critical, so I don’t think it applies.)
Not his fault. It's the bands fault really. But yeah he has a great voice. It was a good choice to get him. Imo some of Journey's best stuff is from Arrival and Generations.
Exactly right. Arnels voice is just about shot now. He is nowhere near what he was when he started and it’s not really his fault. No singer could keep up that touring schedule

Bueno..en su peor momento lo despidió. Luego lo volvió a contratar por conveniencia. Su voz ya es fundamental en el espectáculo.
Sick video bro ! Seen this and every tour since 98 ! This show was life changing for me. My favorite band was back -:).
I haven’t listened to this since you posted it. The crowd f-ing loved them.
I was at this show. Third row floor seats
This is Steve A at his very best.
Steve 's early years are brilliant , crystal clear voice , super tuned and strong !
Too bad it lasted so short

By 03 it was over
Even back then you can hear Deen was a great vocalist! He really helped to augment Augeri’s performance and fit the band really well!
Deen sang superbly on Girl Can't Help It.
👍 He also handles a lot on the Journey Through Time concerts I uploaded this week.

Great show. Really too bad Steve’s voice gave out, I thought he was a great fit.
Love me some Deen! Anyway you can get him.

Agreed
Can we ever have a comment under a concert with Steve Augeri that doesn’t discuss his voice giving out? That would be great. :)

@@martinduran9523Totally agree on both points. I listen to Arrival quite often.
We called him "Steve with a perm "
😂
This lineup had so much heart. The current version is a parody of the band IMO.
I prefer Augeri to Arnel. Shame Neal's desire for endless touring. Keeps blowing out the singer's voices
💯
Augeri in the first 3 years ok, but after that Algiers is much better

That's where they make their money
What was the venue in PHX?
America West Arena
Augeri the best before Perry
Is that steve perry
Steve Augeri
No
Jonathan cane and Neil schone are the only two original group members. In this
Ross Valory and Neal Schon would be the original members. Cain came over from The Babys later on.
Ross Valory is an original member also.🤔
Anche Ross Valory
