These are great filters. Used to have a Turbo 1000 in my 112L. Efficient and silent if you get rid off air bubbles properly. Removed the sponge and bought an extra container, filled it with sera bio fibres. I still use it at times as a chemical filter.
The point of the design is you clean the sponge once a week. I just cut some black coarse foam then use the blue oase biomaster pre filter sponges on inside of that. That way you get really clean mechanical filtration.
Absolutely and had it running in a shrimp[ tank for a while it is over engineered and could be made much more simple and a directional nozzle wouldn't go a miss but its quiet and sponge is the way forward

Then getting the same again and running my diamondback terrapin tank with them rather than using my fx6. The big services I have to do on it are a drag. I think the turbo filters can easily do the job and for over half the price when I add it up

What I love about chatting online is that we can learn from others that live in another country, I'm from NL, I guess by your accent you are located in the UK? There are some cultural differences (when it comes to fish keeping) from country to country and it's those differences that we also can learn from. Always good to expand my view. Although I think the difference between the UK and NL aren't that huge. You have a great YT channel, keep up the good work!
Certainly seems like a cool idea mate we’ve been seeing a lot of these sorts of things more and more but we definitely agree with you with the fact that most likely with the more things they add to it the more likely they would just get clogged…. She seems to work a lot better when you just have the sponge without all that other ad at stuff we use the elite ones and we like them quite a bit
The tubes are meant for extending the filter intake if you have a higher aquarium, I think. So you can have the intake at the bottom as the pump itself is closer to the surface. I was wondering that myself for a while as well 😀 I started using this in my new 60 litre tank. I opted for this filter for the reasonable price and I was able to use Eheim substrate pro from my established filter in another tank. What do you think, would you use this in a larger tank if two biological media containers were used? Maybe one could have two biological media containers and the sponge. It is a high flow rate filter after all. Thanks for the review!
I think the flow and amount of media really keeps this to sub 80 ltr tank but it would be great as a second filter so you can cycle a second tank immediately or indeed have it alongside a sponge
thanks for the review, any filter recommendations for a 100liter aquarium? was looking at this filter but maybe its too small then. its for ram ciklids size fishtank.
For cichlids i would go for an external to be honest maybe aps 1400 or eheim ecco pro series if you really want to stay with internal eheim pick up 200 maybe
Are you still using the fluval u4 on then tetra 105? I have the same setup and find the flow very strong. Too strong really. Have you done any modifications to change your flow?
Hi Rio i use the U4 still i adjust the flow the the spray bar portion and face it towards the rear glass wall but you can also close the holes ever so slightly to reduce the flow
It seems to blow out quite hard maybe when full off much and bacteria it would be slower i would certainly consider putting foam or sponge on the outlet
most filters are tested with no flow restrictions plus the rule of thumb for biological media is 1 kilo per 100 litres of water this has less than half that
If you don’t use the venturi don’t use the Venturi piece in between duck bill and powerhead. Than it won’t flood up. I use 4 of the filters, also the 2000 series. With extra filter chambers I’ve no complaints, except for the water heating up which is an annoyance during heat waves as I have to cool the water with fans. Thank you for your honest review. @@AQUAGUYUK Glad you found a way to diy the spray attachment. I bought the spraybar from Aquael but don't use it. I know surface movement helps with gas exchange (= more oxygen) and cooling the water, but I inject CO2, that is whey I keep surface movement to a minimum. Not sure if fans which cause some surface movement too will cause less CO2 loss than a spray bar. But have to say, fish go before plants. If water temperature goes up too much and subsequently O2 levels down, I won't hesitate to use the spray bar. PS With 1 turbo 2000 in a 240 liter fish tank, water temperature goes op by 2°C compared to room temp. That's a lot because I use 2 turbo 2000 in that tank (Hillstream). Does the job well though.
@@podenco2 Damn i never see what temps go up rather the opposite when moving water around but some great info as for co2 i never use it myself and find balance the key but its difficult to achieve
@@AQUAGUYUK I agree. Without CO2 injection I only could use low light plants and have extremely low light above the tank. Else algae would flourish. My tapwater barely contains CO2. That's why I'm used to keeping the surface movement minimal. It's a vulnerable equilibrium with low CO2 levels. All I could grow were plants like Anubias sp. and Javafern. More light above the tank than these plants needed and booooooom algae. My big tank has LED and the lights were way to powerful even when dimming the light with a tc420. Hence I started using CO2 but such a system is expensive. But I have to say, CO2 works wonders!
@@podenco2 If you close your tank up with a lid you will get about 420 ppm of co2 on the water surface which should naturally exchange with water also using very "hungry" plants can cause algae through ferts using nitrates and phosphates and lets not forget fish they expel co2 already diffused in water ,,,but keep us posted
Yes ...... actually i used to own a shop many moons ago so much of what i have comes from that i also have many tanks i normally only show the ones in my other home as the rest are breeding pens

@@JadeWinters02 Well at the moment i have 3 250 ltr tanks with discus 4 60 ltr tanks with shrimp and 4 100 ltr with livebearers the Discus are very profitable £30 each fish rising to £40 for a 3 inch fish and each pair lay about 40 to hundred eggs
@@AQUAGUYUK Quite profitable then. If you don't have an auto water changer, I can't imagine having to do water changes of that magnitude. I struggle with water changing 3 tanks lol
@@JadeWinters02 Power head and hose pipe and then the same back in i make RO water and mix it with dechlorinated water in large barrels but inside i use a power head and hose straight to drain then fill the sink and pump it back

Agreed i do love sponge as a media that comes from my pond days but also love bio chemical media so we shall see

I did try other sponges but found they restricted the flow quite a lot

when i removed the sponge filter, crap went EVERYWHERE in my tank! how do you get the filter off without debris going everywhere?
I use a sandwich bag around it remove the whole thing and clean in old tank water

Why do you think it only filters 75 litres, and not 150 litres?
most filters are tested with no flow restrictions plus the rule of thumb for biological media is 1 kilo per 100 litres of water this has less than half that
What would the best media in this filter I'm going to using it in a love fish 64l tank (interpet 64l)
