    I wonder if the reason why this typing police thing is enjoyed so much by the community is because something in between a test and an informative video. It contains the person explaining something about MBTI, but at the same time uses a a real life example. To me it makes MBTI come alive more than just informative videos. Most mbti videos in general are like learning stuff all the time in class, but never doing anything to test your skills in reality. With actual examples, it also showcases more how someone else is typing others.

      @M J My sense is that many people have unredressed grievances (probably much more consequential and likely unrelated to typology) in their lives. The type policing process may be acting as a surrogate redressing, alleviating their sense of powerlessness, at least momentarily.

    • @grimsong2237

      @M J
      I definitely pick up the mob out for blood aspect. Though it seems slightly more controlled then that. Perhaps a packed Roman Colosseum watching gladiators do their thing.
      My only concern is that some people are getting unintellectual in their discourse by getting personal in their use of interjections and topics. Using slurs to say you don't like someone when that has nothing to do with verifying or speculating on a person's type. It seems cowardly unjust and imbecilic.
      I can foresee this being a potential problem down the line.

    • @heatherbryant4197
      @heatherbryant4197 6 лет назад

      Agreed. I feel like I'm vicariously getting some of the practice I need to apply abstract theory to real people. We may understand what any cognitive function "is," but what does it "look like" and "sound like"? This is also part of the reason I miss the typing videos from NT Support. I wish more typology enthusiasts posted IRL typing videos.
      One question that comes to mind though: Do you think that a person more educated on typology is actually more likely to type themselves correctly? Dave Superpowers contends the opposite (not that I take his theory at face value, but it's something to consider). I do think that when you couple an understanding of cognitive functions with cognitive bias, you can potentially use your knowledge and outwardly-perceived Ethos to rationalize why you are actually a type you may not be and explain away why you use some cognitive functions more than others. It's the dangerous intersection of knowledge and confirmation bias. It's easy to say "I use Fe more than Fi," but don't you think observing someone interacting in a social situation and listening to what they say about topics other than MBTI or socionics might provide more objective data for typing?
      BTW, I know DSP's theory is slightly different. He says that people who have been in the typology community for a while tend to type themselves "upside-down" because they perceive themselves as being better at using their "demons" than they actually are, and tend to "peacock" their inferior functions. This may be possible too, though I don't know how often it actually happens.

    • @heatherbryant4197

      @@PowerRedBullTypology Strange; I initially received a notification for a reply from you that doesn't appear here, so I'm not sure if you deleted it or if RUclips is just being wonky right now. As for the answer to my own question: I'm not sure which methodology is best for typing others, hence my being open to input from people who seem to know what they're talking about. I can see some potential benefits to typing someone based on how they describe their own use of cognitive functions. I think the language people in the typing community use to describe their own cognition and behavior is much more refined and deliberately-selected. This can offer the benefit of more detailed nuance in meaning, which can help distinguish between, let's say, Fi and Fe, for example, whereas the nuance might be lost or the true intention may be misconstrued by the ambiguity of language and/or action sans analysis when not presented through the lens of typology. However, I think this additional nuance and insinuation can be a double-edged sword. It can be either genuinely insightful or speciously contrived. On the other hand, if an outsider attempts to interpret which functions you're using or what your temperament is based off interactions in everyday life, they might be working with data that could be interpreted as more objective, since it's not presented through the individual's subjective filtering system, which may include deliberate or subconscious attempts at image-management, saving face, spin-doctoring, or playing towards biases. For example, I've seen some sensors try very hard to describe their thought process in a way that _sounds_ more intuitive, because they are pandering to the bias against sensors, when talking type. One might argue that the facade tends to crumble and the self-censorship people engage in to seem consistent with their type dissipates when they're talking about things other than type or engaging in activities that don't usually keep these identity issues at the forefront of the mind.
      Well, my thinking feels very unorganized right now so I'm not sure if that helped clarify at all. Having a bit of an Ne moment here.

It took her coming up to me one evening and asking me..."What's the matter, don't you like me" My response was, in a bit of a panic "I don't know" she came back with " Let's find out" We were married 10 months later and had a great life together until she passed from cancer.

    This is a great series - I like how you take in the whole picture, not just one aspect. Many videos I’ve seen throw me off with one comment, like an INFJ always puts others first. If it’s my family or someone I care about , I absolutely will put them first. On the other hand I’ve been told I’m the most selfish person someone knows, because if I don’t want to do something or go somewhere I won’t do it. What do you mean by polar FI? What do you recommend to learn about this in more depth? Also I’m laser focused for hours, with no breaks if I’m on a mission (deep) but I also have a a tendency to change direction and have lots of ideas going (broad). I can’t wait to see more from you. I’d love to get typed but there’s no way I’d have a video of me rambling on the internet. I have a hard time getting rid of things, even things that should be easy to toss like baby clothes and school papers from my daughter but I feel like getting rid of it will erase some of the memories. I’m definitely rambling because I’m falling asleep so I’ll be done now.

    I would love for you to profile me... is this something that could happen?. I type as INFJ always, for the passing 10 years, with an enneagram type 4. I seriously have looked into the shadow functions, all the cognitive stackings ... healthy and unhealthy, I can connect with almost all the types across the spectrum, and because of this I have self doubt that I am an infj. Also being an infj is not a mystical fairy type life full of wisdom(so many want to be an infj so it really complicates finding a genuine one) it’s hard and exhausting and contradictive... that is... if I am a genuine infj, that’s how I would see it. On cognitive function tests I have very high Ni and Ne and Fe ... thank you for your vids and clarity 🙏🏽

    Just watched the video you did with Frank James, now Pucokie. I see on my side, there are other videos of other "INFJs you are doing (haven't watched yet). Just wondering if you're targeting only proclaimed INFJs or other MBTI types as well? As stated in the FJ comment, many people are suddenly mistyped as "INFJs". Is this that darned "rarity factor". I would rather have the truth than try and fit into a mold of something I am not. (Ie. I get the lightbulb flash ... OMG that's me - that is exactly what I do) Do you think there could possibly be people who have now idealised INFJ, (which is a danger and surely not as glamorous in the real world or the internet has projected)? I knew INFJ would end up being disparaged if this narrative kept getting out! Dayahmmm!!!

    I apologize because I have not watched your channel very much I just saw a video where Marty was doing a thing on INFJs and the police I had never heard of you before but I was interested in understanding what the type police represented. I wonder how it is that you derived at your decision making for people not being INFJs and why it is that you have taken up this ...I guess mission.
    I don't have a RUclips channel and don't make RUclips videos so I don't really have any means of being pulled over by you.
    Would you be able to tell by talking to me whether I am an infj?
    I have gathered by watching this video that I am far from the representation of an infj on the right hand side of the screen. I actually come off as a lot more charismatic. Coming up with thoughts and displaying them in a proper way comes a little more naturally to me when it's something factual based or describing a situation that is not emotional to me. I tend to do more parables and less in factual statements when dealing with emotion.
    it's easier for me to give an example of what it might be like or feel like and the form of a story or in the form of something that I feel might be relatable to the person that I'm speaking to and it all depends on the person that I am speaking to.
    I just wonder would you be able to tell right off from speaking to me if I am an infj.
    if so is there anyway I can contact you and speak with you?
    I feel like it might be a blessing if you were to tell me I was a different type. I was first told that I was an INFJ-A by a psychologist who tested me. I have since taken for other tests all of which had pretty much the exact same result. Almost identical outcomes on the percentage scale, to which I thought was comical....
    I do Wonder though why is it that you go around doing this? Is there some greater purpose? Are you doing this just to call people out or are you doing this because you want people to represent things accurately? If it's just for the purpose of calling people out and embarrassment of another person.....why?
    It seems like a lot of trouble to go through and also seems like it's rather pointless....
    I'm just trying to understand.....

    Yeah ISFx/SEI seems more likely than IEI. There are some clues if you listen carefully enough. Like being able to throw things away easily...that's not actually like an IEI at all...possibly not even intuitive. They struggle with maintaining their physical space and aren't decisive enough, similar to ILIs but actually WORSE because of the weak Te. It's SEIs who have a psychological disposition to "caretake" after the ILE who often does not maintain his physical space and sees too much potential in things to ever throw them out. SLE's in particularly would not take to kindly to how easily she would throw his things away which would create a conflict in sensing..."Don't move my stuff!". In many of her interviews (e.g. Fay the ENFJ) notice her focus on her bodily needs, like how she didn't get enough sleep, how she needs to rest etc which points toward Si.
    For me, out of all the Ip types she actually seems LEAST like IEI. Her "protection against Ti" as you put it is actually demonstrative Ti than anything else - SEI/IEI are receptive to information from this IE and don't need to protect against it. It's SLI/ILI who don't value it and will "protect" against it. Why? Because they are psychologically disposed to protect against the polr/blindspot of their dual (IEE/SEE). She seems very likely to be SLI, she even gives off that stoic idgaf vibe in quite a few of her videos. The topic of her videos also strikes me as Delta, it's all about reaching potential and finding practical purpose in life which are Delta quadra values. Think about it, is she really emotive enough for Fe-creative? Compare her with an actual IEI - /watch?v=jJbwvNPaKTw

    I'm not very knowledgeable when it comes to the cognitive functions at all. When people use terms like t e and so forth I understand what they're saying. But in my mind it almost confuses me in a way that's not really the right word but I can't find a better one at the moment. What I go by is what I was typed as and just listening to people of other types talk and watching their eyes facial expressions pauses in between words and why they're using those pauses if they're looking away from the camera a lot and whatnot. I'm pretty decent at reading people in general. Typing them is a totally different thing. But I've tested as an infp and that's all I've ever been tested as and my little sister is an infj. Based on that information that I know and based on how well I know my sister she seems like an infj to me. It was literally just like listening to my little sister talk almost funny. And the differences that she describes between the two are the same differences I see between me and my sister. She's able to focus her mind on one thing in the future where as me every single possible outcome that I can think of has to be accounted for before I can comfortably make a decision and feel confident about it. And there's even still that little bit of doubt in the back of my mind that I missed something. I research many different things. Even things that don't interest me. Because I know it's all connected. For example I can't stand politics because all I see are a bunch of Puppets that can't speak for themselves but no matter what my opinion is on it it's still plays a huge role in the ways society operates and has a huge impact on how people think as a whole. I'm also horrible at putting my thoughts into words correctly to make myself understood in the way I want to be understood so I tend to ramble a lot to try to explain myself as much as possible so everybody can understand the point I'm trying to make. and like you said I think another reason it takes me so long to Express what I'm thinking because I'm trying not to offend anybody at all so everybody can get something out of what I'm saying. If that makes any sense at all. Basically I always feel like I'm walking right down the center of a two-lane road and everybody else is either to the left of me or to the right of me. And they're driving so fast that they can't see the other person's perspective or they don't want to. I've always been able to see everybody's perspective I'm not good at choosing sides I'm much better at trying to bring the two sides together. Because I feel like they're already together it's just coming from a different perspective and people are just going so fast that they can't see it. I'm not even totally sure I'm an infp because everyone has such different views on what they are and sometimes I get a little confused. The only things that I know for sure is that I can only handle being around other people even my own family for so long before I need to be by myself. I'm not able to ignore my emotions at all the harder I try the worse it gets if it's a bad emotion. And I get stuck down a hole for a day or two. I cant hold a grudge no matter what the person has done to me I may be angry for a while but after a day or two I'm over it completely I may not trust them the same but I don't judge them for it. because I know everybody's been through something different. And it's next to Impossible for me to do any type of schooling. Or anything that requires timelines. And im horrible at keeping things in the correct spot I like my clothes out where I can see them rather than in drawers every surface is filled with this and that. Not with garbage but I've just never been able to or felt it to be necessary to do those things when all I'm going to do is take it back out of the drawer same thing with making my bed. I just feel it's a waste of my time to try to make sure everything that I do lines up with what Society is doing. And I could honestly care less what people think about that. I can't say I don't care what people think about me per se but when it comes to the way I dress or my appearance or the way my bed is made if you don't like it that's fine with me just don't tell me to do it your way. Worry about yourself is the way I've always looked at it and that's how I've always been I don't worry about what other people are doing necessarily. Unless it's affecting my emotions then it can get to me. there's a lot more I could go into but I won't this is already way too long and I apologize for that. I really enjoy the video I think that's a great way to approach the subject I wouldn't even mind doing it myself. having somebody with some knowledge about the functions observing me would be very helpful in learning more about how I work because as much as I think I know it seems like I confuse myself just as much sometimes.

    First off, Ive watched her vids and thought she was INFJ. She reminds me a bit of my INFJ daughter... Future oriented, people focused, and ambitious busy body. I didnt think the dress disqualified her because Ive seen my definitely INFJ daughter where something floral on occassion. You have to look at the motive why someone is wearing something. It may be to please someone (ex. it was a gift to them etc). Or one out of character liked item may not be characteristic of the whole. Definitely dont judge a book by its cover but use it as data points for the whole picture. I think INFJs tends to go for timeless styles yet still innovative. They may invest in a fad piece that becomes a collectible vintage piece in the future. Not all fads make it to collectible stages. I think INFJs can be open to trying different fashions yet not necessarily wearing anything that would be too offensive or make someone uncomfortable (ex wearing G strings downtown mid week day) But also probably not prudish. Exceptions may be made to make a political point for the greater good.

      Yes! The MBTI community (I don't mean to criticise this channel - I just mean in general) likes to say that it's INFPs who dress in a very individualistic or boho way like Kate Bush or something. Well maybe some do but as I said elsewhere the one I know dresses more conservatively than me (INFJ) - I like to try out new looks, have had various streaks of colour put through my blonde hair over the years and my wardrobe is full of colour which I suppose is my Se having a runaround. I've often thought that the INFP in my family has values that centre around being seen as a respectable person or around humility/modesty so she doesn't want to stand out!? [Also think this 'cause she rebuffs compliments.] She wears a businessy trouser suit nearly everywhere that requires smart/casual to formal dress - she would never wear a nice summer dress to a wedding for example.

    I think she's an INTP. She did have Fe but it's very faint and subtle. Her speech pattern is similar to many INTPs I know too. To me she doesn't look like INFP at all (dunno why anyone would mistake her for one though)--too dry and detached. There is a well-meaning disposition, but comes off pretty awkward (Fe low in the stack) And of course that's why she's knowledgable. None of the INFJs I know are seriously into Socionics. Socionics itself is heavily Ti Ne (I think the creators are most likely INTPs) which most INFJs would find too convoluted. Could be INTP with Enneagram 4 or 9. Just my 2 cents.

      I don't find it too convoluted and I'm INFJ. Btw we're not dumb because we're INFJ - my IQ is around 130, higher than some INTPs that I've spoken to. Also I have always believed her to be ISFP who thinks her tertiary Ni is 1Ni - I don't see Fe with her. I also think she has polR Ne as I saw her interviewing someone and she just couldn't think of anything else to ask for about 1 min 30. An INFJ would've somehow pulled something out or with our Fe just realised we should wind up the interview as it looks bad to the audience to have so much silence.

    I'm an Infp and I think she's an infp.. although I don't see myself as being like her, I can see the similarities that would make a typology connect. But all infps are very individualistic so that confuses people sometimes, especially if the infp really knows who they are as a person.. Even the tone of her voice reminded me of Winona Ryder (good call Eric)... I think the older an infp gets the less "whimsical" they become.. I can honestly say I don't know a single person that would consider me whimsical, maybe a bitch, hard headed or brazen with friends.. and unobtrusive with those I don't quite know until I get a feel for the people around.. Whimsical is so INFP stereotypical of a word. It's dumb...
