What you're actually hearing when you hear yanny is an artifact of the low quality digital sampling process. The artifact is called aliasing, whereby original frequencies create mirrored ghost frequencies around 2 points on a frequency graph, You need to research Nyquist frequency to understand why you can get a copy of the lower frequencies shifted higher and inverted, the inversion causes the intonation of the vocal sounds to be opposing the original intonation at the same time as it is played. rising pitch intonation becomes falling pitch intonation at the same time, only pitch shifted up and vice versa, falling intonation in the original creates rising intonation at the same time, pitch shifted up. saying laurel is kind of the opposite to saying yanny in terms of pitch changes. The sound was simply re-sampled to a low quality setting that brought these artifacts of digital sampling into your hearing range, CDs for example do the same thing, but the ghost frequencies are too high for us to notice. Look up Nyquist frequency on wikipedia for a better explanation.

It doesn't matter at what speed, low or high frequency, i only hear Yanny. Idk why. I watched a speed up version and almost barely could laurel but it would switch to a definite yanny afterwards.
