I use a similar method for making my cutters out of HSS
have you tried using the presplit carbide blanks, from mcmaster? a bit more expensive, but it might save you some grinding time
McTavish, I have not. They sound like a good idea. Carbide is hard to grind!
I know some McArdles in Ireland. You related to them?
