    Mate, I've blitzed your build videos in 3 evenings, they're brilliant, what a transformation for the van. For a young lad you're very accomplished, congratulations on tackling everything well, from electrics, woodworking, plumbing to video editing. Honestly it's one of the better build series on RUclips so ... nicely done.

    Regarding your diesel heater, it's a good idea to run it on high for at least 5 minutes before you shut it down. Stops the chamber from clogging up and less smoke when starting up. The glowplug comes on for a few seconds to burn off any left over fuel when you shut it down ( see control panel display) . Cheers 🇦🇺🐨🦘🍻

      Thanks for the tip, I have run it up since on full power for a while to give it a clear out. That makes sense cheers 👍🏼😁

    Nice conversion 😎
    One thing i would add is the fuel pump has to be at a 45deg angle to clear the air bubbles the pump creates 👍 having it on it's side allows the air to be trapped in the pump which means it will pump less fuel, making hard to start and will wear the pump prematurely 👍
    Really enjoyed the series so far 😁

      @TurnersWorkshop97  Год назад

      Thanks for the tip, I will angle it 45 degrees. Does it need to be angled a certain way or doesn’t it matter? Thanks for following my build series 😊👍🏼

      @@TurnersWorkshop97 inlet side should be lower, as the piston inside the pump moves it creates bubbles from cavitation and they need to be able to make it out the pump and into the burner so inlet low, outlet high 👍
      I've had a few transits in my time, love the Di for it's simplicity and robustness, my Mk7 2.4 is ok power wise but i dread it breaking down and costing me a packet 😮
      Love the water heater by the way 😎

    • @TurnersWorkshop97
      @TurnersWorkshop97  Год назад

      Ok perfect thanks mate, I will adjust it 👍🏼 I’ve been very tempted by a mk7 as the extra power does make it a nicer drive but I think I will stick with my tractor for simplicity 😁

      @@TurnersWorkshop97 if i could I'd run a Di on my ambulance camper, bloody love them 👍
      I just double checked the installation instructions and it's between 15 and 35 deg recommended installation angle 👍 so i was out 😟

    Hi Ollie . . i first subscribed to you about 2-years ago on both my accounts . . I brought an ice cream van from bognor Regis around 2-years ago I drove all the way from Lincolnshire lol to fetch the ice cream van . . The ice cream van was out of the blue decision I brought it from eBay for£15,000 I had done a little homework as I didn't want to get ripped off. . I originally thought I could pick one up for about 8 to £10,000 but to my surprise I didn't quite realise how expensive they were to buy ranging from £12,000 to £125.000 ready to go . . For around £8,000 yes you could buy one but very risky most of them didn't have MOTs lots of them had faults needed work on them or the ice cream machine wasn't working properly . . That was my main worry the ice cream machine because as you probably know they are very expensive to buy new about £5,000 . . So I knew that I had to spend a little more money to buy a decent one ready to go . . After looking at about 25 ice cream vans I finally found one at the top of my budget . . The man that owned it sadly had health issues he was using it a week before I went to buy the van . . It's a 2.5 r reg transit van with no turbo . . I'm not very mechanically minded so I knew nothing about transit vans with the engines but the guy did tell me they call it the banana engine that the van is very slow but also extremely simple to fix that they will run forever. . I went to meet the man at his unit I was there about an hour and a half before he arrived so luckily I did see the van start up after being sat there for a week as I knew that was quite important to see a van running from cold . . I drove all the way home it took me around 6 hours at a steady pace 55 mph max . . To be honest I don't think it would have gone any faster but I didn't want to push it anyways. . Even though the drive was very slow there was no issues whatsoever apart from when I was going uphill I did slow down to about 30 mph which scared me a little lol because I was on the motorway . . The first thing I wanted to do was give the van a check over also a full service even though the van did come with 11 months MOT . . The money I had left I knew that I was going to have to buy stock also new stickers which are quite expensive when you have to buy quite a lot of them . . With my stock also stickers that was the last of my money £1,000 . . That's when I came across your channel because I really wanted to give my van a service but I didn't want to pay garage prices . . After watching a few of your videos I decided to service the van myself . . I have done this three times now since owning my van especially after last summer with it being very hot I was out every day my van was literally running 10 hours a day non-stop especially if I was doing pitch work my van would just tick over all day . . the only thing I did was open the bonnet about a foot to help release heat . . My van is now in storage until end of march beginning of April because I've been told the old transit vans can rust very easily apparently mine has had some welding but nothing major it has been looked after very well . . I just want to say I really appreciate your videos I have learnt so much saving a few pennies on the way . . I'm sorry about my essay lol but I just wanted to tell you my story . . Thank you 🙏🙏

      Thanks for sharing your story 👊🏼 I am so pleased that you have found value in my videos and it’s managed to save you ££. I also remember the first time taking mine on the motorway 😂 going from the golf to an old transit took some getting used to. I’m pretty sure it makes you a better driver though as you have to anticipate what the traffic is doing around you more. I hope your business has been successful since your purchase, what is it you do in the winter months while the vans in storage if you don’t mind me asking? I wish I had somewhere big enough to keep mine undercover in the winter, would definitely save some welding! Thanks for being a loyal subscriber, take care my friend

      @@TurnersWorkshop97 Hi Ollie. . I apologise for late reply I was on my other account . . My mum has a horse riding school so I'm like maintenance guy just basically stable work also do a lot of driving fetching hay straw horse feed ect ect absolutely hate it lol but it pays the bills . . I knew that there was a lot of profit to be made in the ice cream business as I had a dinky doughnuts bar so I used to talk to a lot of the ice van owners. . If you want the truth I was quite shocked how much money you can make just throughout the 6-months of the year especially with the summer we had last year . . I was fully booked mainly kids parties even did a couple of weddings but at weekends I have got a permanent pitch in Skegness which is a busy seaside town . . I also drive around the estates in my area . . My friend Tony he buys ice cream vans that don't have MOT with work that needs doing to them . . He buys them with not much work that needs doing mostly a little bit of welding with a fresh paint respray . . They actually look beautiful when he has finished with them also making a lot of profit . .you don't see that many rusty ice cream vans because they are so well looked after especially being in storage six months of the year . . The whole back part of the van is a fibreglass shell mine is double skinned it was made by a famous guy called Whitby Morrison they still build ice cream vans to this day . . If you're looking for a project I highly recommend buying an ice cream van that doesn't need much doing to it you will double or triple your money no problem especially with your skills . . The newer Mercedes-Benz ice cream vans they can go up to about £150000 lol insane money. . I really love your confidence especially when you haven't carried out the work before . . You have certainly helped me more than you can imagine 🙏🙏😊😊

    You put me to shame with your useful life skills at such an age, I'm sure you've been asked many times, please forgive me, but who the hell taught you ??? What did you study? You seem to have all the right gear and do all the work with a professional approach, and you play piano! Is this the work of private schooling? Im watching you currently solder a circuit board for a piano , after watching you weld , after watching you deal with MoT testers and take it on the chin. What an incredible human being you are, and inspiring. Thank you

      I’m really glad you are liking the content, thanks for your lovely comment. I went to a small public school, it was very good for creative subjects like design technology, arts and music. After I left school, I decided I wanted to go into the engineering sector. I was fortunate to get an apprenticeship in electrical engineering which gave me 3 years training in a mixture of mechanical and electrical disciplines learning from people that have been in the trade for years. My old man was a cabinet maker back in the day and has always inspired me and taught me what he knows about carpentry. Never been great at sports or English, but I am passionate about engineering and creative subjects and have been very fortunate to have such good role models around me willing to teach. thanks again for your kind words and I’m so pleased that I could inspire you 😁👍🏼

    Nice one, Ollie. I love the look of inset doors but precisely because of the issue you had with the wood expanding I'm glad I went for surface mount. Not gloating, I could easily have opted for inset doors, it's just the way things worked out for me. Forgive me if you've already posted one, but is it time for a completed van tour?

    Was it eise to fit a 15amp for a 10? Isn't it supposed to be lower?

    • @TurnersWorkshop97
      @TurnersWorkshop97  Год назад +1

      Will be fine mate as the cable is 6mm automotive cable rated up to 60amps. The fuse is to protect the cable. The diesel heater will draw a max current of 10amps so if I used a 10amp fuse it could possibly nuisance trip and the next size up I had was 15amps. If I use a fuse with a slightly higher rating the cable is still protected but the circuit won’t nuisance trip.
