  • Roger Tory Peterson referred to the American Robin as the one bird that everybody knows, but there's more to this species than its trademark orange breast.

    I needed to make sure that robins really sang (for a spring song lyric). Very grateful for your informative video! :-)

    In North America, The Robin is a year -round sight since it migrates in warmer climates during the winter

    The american robin is a misidentified red robin but they are not from the same family. Both are beautiful birds. The american robin is a pacific bird with a friendly character. They have beautiful eyes.

    Anyone notice that robins seem less scared of people than most birds?

      mourning doves are easily spooked and they emit an annoying call when flying off that alarms all other birds. Surely you misread the post.

    You've captured words, not songs. They use combinations of two or three musical notes as words.
    Two short notes of the same pitch mean "come"
    Two short notes of rising pitch mean "say"
    Three notes - mid, hi, lo - means "promise"

    Having lived in the southern half of Texas for a quarter century, I can say definitively that American robins are very rarely seen in places like Austin, Houston, and San Antonio, which have significant human populations. Though I was raised with robins being very common, I take issue with calling them "everyone's backyard bird" and saying they are nearly ubiquitous throughout North American. There are millions of Americans for whom this isn't true. Other than that, I very much enjoyed this video.

    There's atleast one often near my open window, that sounds very unique as it sounds like the whistling tune we do to get someone's or a dog's attention and coming. Similar short melody many car locking systems do. I hear lots of those from MAC'S gas-store across St. Maybe this Robin nested near is calling back lol. ?? :-D :-D

    I don't know if you watch this account any longer but, if so, do you happen to know what bird is making the very first call in the introduction? I heard one today and don't know what it is, tried to find it but no luck and it's driving me crazy not knowing!

    which bird calls are they at the beginning?

    • @pietracuore
      @pietracuore 9 лет назад

      jennifer bazilyuk The very first bird is a White-throated Sparrow. In Canada it sings "sweet anada Canada Canada. In the States it sings Sweet Sam Peabody. Almost immediately after the White throated sparrow is a loud birdsong I've never heard so I cannot help you and immediately after that you'll hear the White throated Sparrow again. Suggest you go to the Cornell Laboratory of Ornithology to their website All About Birds and search for White throated Sparrow and listen to its song. Sorry about the second song you hear at the very beginning.

    has anyone ever heard a robin sing off key?

    • @LisaCupcake
      @LisaCupcake 7 лет назад +4

      I actually heard one doing what I can only describe as "practicing" a song the other day. It was a "tune" I've never heard from a robin before and he did it several times before he got it just right, the way it sounded the first time. lol There seem to be a lot more robins in my area this year than we usually have.
