    Am I the only one who feels that May was only using Ward as a convenient f-buddy with no emotional attachment? Her last conversation with him basically confirmed it.
    Kudos to May for immediately ending it after learning Ward was into Skye. That's a mature "grown woman" move. May knows how to keep herself out of unnecessary drama! Plus, she advised Ward to be honest with himself about his feelings for Skye. That wasn't a statement of jealousy. It was thoughtful and compassionate. #GrownWoman

      I definitely think there was a little more to it for May than just convenience, but I do definitely agree with the second part of your comment. May wasn't about to let that situation get any more complicated than it already was. She knew when it was time to call it quits and just move on.

    The best thing about these reaction/rewatches is seeing the little crumbs the writers have sprinkled throughout the season thus far, especially when it comes to the revelation that May knows more than she is letting on. One of my favourite crumbs is May's reaction in 1x04 "Eye Spy" when Akela Amador asks May what SHIELD had "done" to Coulson. Now, I'm not saying Ming-Na knew, but I am sure that the writers knew that Agent May knew and so inserted certain stage directions into the script, directions that would make more sense in hindsight.

      Yeah, editing these videos for RUclips is usually a bit of a grind and my least favorite part of doing this channel, but it's actually been really fun to go back through these and see all the breadcrumbs they worked in from the very beginning.

      Option 1: Recruiting her to be loyal to him.
      Option 2 (more likely in my opinion): An excuse to send Sif away from Asgard so that she didn't see through his crap.

    I assumed that the reason this sort of one-off episode was thrown in was because since they were coordinating the show with the MCU they needed to fine-tune the timing and they found they had an extra week to work with before Winter Soldier came out. So it was kind of like the writers stalling for time.

  • @jaredschuster3010

    This ep feels like a ramp up more than 1 off. Needed to get coulson simmering with the recent gh revelation to finally get him on the war path. Also, one of my favorite May moments is coming in a few eps, and I have not been more excited.

  • @spamfilter32
    @spamfilter32 6 месяцев назад +1

    "Son of Coul" is the literal translation of Coulson.

  • @spamfilter32
    @spamfilter32 6 месяцев назад +1

    As for this episode seeming a bit weird because it isn't heavily emptional and is a bit of a one-off episode, Whedon and his writers understand that you need to space out the heavy emotional episodes so that they still hit just as hard at the end of a season as they do at the beginning. The TRACKS and TAHITI epispdes hit heard, so this is inserted to break up the emotion hitting episodes for the next batch of emotional episodes coming up.

    I'm an old school Marvel 616 comics fan & I love this episode. Lorelei is from the best run of Thor comics from Walt Simonson 's 80s run. Her character is from lore passed from ancient times, and reflects the power of Nature.

    Was awesome to see you react and enjoy this episode! Glad you liked Lorelei too. So many modern fools cry and complain about her, it's annoying. She's literally an allegory for the power of nature between men & women that goes back to beginning of humankind. So excited for this amazing run of episodes ✌️😎

    • @dondumitru7093
      @dondumitru7093 7 месяцев назад +2

      @@BritanyBinges I think this episode feels rather like a one-off placed here, and AoS otherwise does a great job of not ever even having one-off episodes. So criticism of this episode IMO comes from that. Also, as you observed, Lorelei might have made for an interesting multi-episode villain, but instead she is one and done.

    • @peterlewis2178
      @peterlewis2178 6 месяцев назад +2

      @itru7093 Well, most of the criticism actually comes from how steeped this episode is in traditional gender binary stereotypes. Like, if the idea was just that people who find women attractive can fall under Lorelai's spell, I don't think there'd be an issue. But they don't address the fact that gay people exist at all, and instead paint it as ALL men are "weak", and will succumb to her seduction, because that's men's nature. The idea that men are weak and can't control their sexual urges, which is kind of hinted at here, is categorically false and can be incredibly damaging to men (and women honestly, because then men internalize it and don't try to control themselves, and end up hurting women).
      I still mostly enjoy the episode, and I like the concept, but there are definitely moments that are problematic and that I really don't like.
      Oh, and there's the fact that Ward is literally r*ped by Lorelai, but it's treated like a neutral or good thing and never talked about again. Like, flip the genders for that scene, and there would have been an outcry.

  • @dondumitru7093
    @dondumitru7093 7 месяцев назад +1

    SPOILERS for the end of Season 1
    I'm just completely stuck on the belief that there is a huge plot hole here: Ward would have spilled the existence of Hydra to Lorelei, since Hydra must represent a huge threat to Lorelei taking over the Earth, and Lorelei would have tried to use that knowledge to bargain with.

    • @silvasurfa7962
      @silvasurfa7962 7 месяцев назад

      Marvel Studios had a list of references from the MCU that this show couldn't mention until the reveal that comes. It's not a plot hole when we can deduce he did tell her "off-screen".

    • @kivimik
      @kivimik 7 месяцев назад +3

      Withholding information is not a plot hole.

    • @BritanyBinges
      @BritanyBinges  7 месяцев назад

      I've thought about that as well. Ward was under the influence of a truth serum (if it was actually real), the Berserker staff, and Lorelei... and it never once came up that his entire public life was a lie? But, I choose to not think about it too much. 🤷‍♀️

    • @waticfan
      @waticfan 7 месяцев назад +2

      @@BritanyBinges I think all of them have a logical enough reason for it not to be a plot-hole.
      the truth serum (if real) - he knew about it, so someone with his training could think around it. In the same way he beats the lie detector by choosing which true answer to give.
      the Staff - worked on amplifying anger and his brother is the biggest source of that not Hydra.
      Lorelai - Hydra's still in hiding, so whilst they would be a threat to her eventually, Shield and Sif are the only immediate threats. The people she manipulates still act like themselves otherwise so someone like Ward would still be thinking tactically.

      @@h4rdi7g3 Yes, that is what I'm doing. So, I watched through AOS 1x16, then Winter Soldier, then went back to AOS 1x17. I also did the same thing for Age of Ultron in season 2. I watched through episode 2x19, then Age of Ultron, and then went back to AOS 2x20.
      I have an amazing Patron (who gets input from other incredible members of the Discord community for the channel) who has put together a schedule of what to watch and when. For example, I'm starting WandaVision on Patreon next month, but only because I'm reacting to X-Men: Days of Future Past this month. Another example is I'm not watching Hawkeye until after I see Daredevil and Black Widow. I never know how the pieces of media connect, though, or why I need to watch things in that order.
