I love how these 'most beautiful german sights' videos feel absolutely foreign to me, a german from Schleswig-Holstein. The architecture and landscape up north are just so different. Germany has such a wild mix of cultures that there's actually no need to go abroad for a holiday 😅

My dear Scottish friend, there are even more beautiful places in Germany than those shown in the video film. Go to the north of Germany and also to the many small villages and visit an inn or a country pub there and eat something regional from there! Just say: "The food is delicious and surprisingly good!"

Travel tip: if you want to see most of these towns there’s a bikepacking route called „Fachwerkstraße“ or „Fachwerktour“ there you basically have a pre planned trips on how to best visit these places one by one :)
It’s for bikes but you could probably use a car or even public transportation if you want to.

Yes, I also live in such a beautiful city, even if it wasn't in the video. There are hundreds or thousands of such pretty little towns in Germany and the countries around it.
Even though I've seen a lot of them, I still like to drive off the main road to take a quick look at one I haven't seen yet and have a coffee or a bite to eat and stretch my legs a bit. The whole scene is always calming and somehow inspiring. I am somehow happy to live in the middle of Europe. ☺👍

@@walkir2662 Scotland does of course have some pretty, historic towns, castles and of course the beautiful, majestic Edinburgh, however Scotland doesn't come anywhere close to the wealth of historic towns, castles, palaces and churches as Germany. Nowhere close. I mean, Germany sits even above France in UNESCO World Heritage sites.
A good friend of mine is a Scot and they are blown away by towns such as Rothenburg ob der Tauber as well. They don't have anything comparable in Scotland of that age, size, preservation level and fairy tale quaintness.
Germans tends to underestimate their own country and overestimate anywhere else in the world. I think that is exactly why Germany is, as mentioned in this video, so underrated. Because not even Germans are really aware of its beauty and wonders, and so they don't do proper selfpromotion as all the other countries do.

Germany is an incredibly beautiful country, and contrary to popular belief, the people are generally very friendly and helpful!! I've been to over 150 countries around the world, but I'm always happy like a little kid at Christmas when I come back. There is so much beauty in Germany, be it cities or nature, that one lifetime might not be enough to see everything. Ok a little overkill but it would take a long time. And the best thing is that Germany has so many different regions, cultures and architecturally different places. If you can't find a place in Germany where you're happy to live, you can't be helped anymore!

I've been to Rothenburg ob der Tauber a lot of times, and it's absolutely beautiful!
And one thing little me really loved was "Käthe Wohlfahrt". It's a store located in Rothenburg ob der Tauber, though "a store" doesn't fit it. It's one major store and several small stores located around the city. The catch: They sell Christmas decorations - year round. You step into these stores in the middle of summer and feel like it's Christmas, especially with the main store. It's magical :D
Edit: Oh, and I grew up in Marburg's county, so I visited the town a lot throughout my youth - even went to school there for a short while! :D
It's a university city, yes, but also it's VERY well known for it's medical advances and specializations.
Now I live close to a town called Landshut in Bavaria, which I think has an amazing old center - and a great tradition called "Landshuter Hochzeit" (Landshut Wedding) that takes place once every 4 years. That's something for you to research, actually, it's amazing :D

My grandfather used to live in Konstanz, at the lake Konstanz/Bodensee. My siblings and I used to visit him every summer ever since I can remember. We used to take walks, go shopping, swimming in the lake and every year while we were there, there was a festival in Switzerland. Luckily the Swiss border was just a 3 minute walk away from my grandfathers house so we would literally walk for 5 minutes and go to a festival in a different country. They had fireworks and rollercoasters. Sadly he passed a couple of years ago and with Covid and everything going on I haven't had the chance to go back in a while but I'd love to go back soon.

It truly is enchanting. Where I live it is a little less touristy and more rustic. People also really seem to love roses, which grow everywhere sometimes devouring whole houses. It’s got a real sleeping beauty vibe to it. One time when it snowed a lot we took a sledge up to the castle really early in the morning and sped down the town roads, also one time when I was small the river froze over and walking on it was one of the most beautiful sites I saw like ever.
I definetly had to move away for a bit to understand what I had, because when I was younger being „cool“ was all that was important to me. If I was born a little later I would probably feel like the cottage core queen now but back then we all wanted to be like Americans living in suburbia 😂

A few years ago I made a roundtrip in Germany. Starting in Hamburg with Stade (centuries ago this was the main town in the north), then viking villiage Haitabu next to Schleswig then to island Sylt, from there to Lübeck with its famous Hollsten Gate (which could be seen on the old 50 DM bill), to the city of Stralsund and Rügen with the limestone cliffs. Then to Dresden which is very pretty, the old town of Meißen where the famous ceramics are built. Then to Saxonia with the famous Bastei bridge and stronghold Königsstein. Both very impressive and finally Leipzig. Germany has really a lot of to offer. I have been as well to Lindau. I like lake constance and the hilly region there a lot. But Lindau is nothing special. Passau has it's charme. In Bavaria I like as well Wasserburg with the cobble stones or in North of Germany the old town of Husum.

12:00 German emperors liked to give their daughters presents. Quedlinburg, Essen and Prüm were all citys that started as gifts from Emperors to their daughters. They become nunneries that were feudal vessels directly to the emperor, and feudal lords without defensive or tax obligations to the empire. As women, these nuns did not had to send soldiers to the empirical army by law. They could ask for compensation for sending troops. Those nunneries become stupendously rich, by sending mercenaries to the empirial army in return for land rights. Prüm was given by Charlemagne to his oldest daughter, Quedlinburg was given by Otto I to his oldest daughter. When Napoleon expropriated the German church, these nuns lost their right. At that time Prüm was ruled by women for 1000 years and Quedlinburg and Essen were ruled by women for 900 years.

I heard professors from Unis take architecture students to the small town of Giessen to show them how not to do it :D
To be fair this place was heavily bombed and then used as a testing ground to build a car friendly city.
It’s not the pretties but it’s got a great vibe with lots of students.
Also the newer mining towns built around industry didn’t start very pretty, but for example Düsseldorf has undergone huge reconstruction and changed from a car friendly concrete jungle into a biking friendly city full of parks and greenery.
When I visited it there were so many people looking so happy riding their brand new bicycles around, it was really cute.

I was born and grew up in Passau and the old city part of Passau is indeed beautiful. Sure the 3 rivers also brought a lot of destruction and floods with them over the last decades where half the city was under water, but the rivers are the heart of Passau and make it truly unique and for me one of the most beautiful cities of Germany. That is also why I understand the citizens who protested against a gigantic flood wall that was supposed to be built around the city. Because sure you would have less water in the city in case of a flood but you also would conpletely ruin the cities appearance for 365 days a year for all of eternity... Sometimes good things in life also come with a cost.

The problem with those english "Top XY Places in Germany" is they all show the same towns, all located in the southern regions. I guess thats because those towns are cliche and represent what most foreigner imagine thinking about germany, but those are just 2 out of 16 states. There is so much more than Bavaria and Baden Wurttemberg!
Maybe you should look for some german people/tv shows showing you the country, rather than foreigners who even use stock material you will find in half of those videos.
To answer one of your Questions: Yes there are town known for net beeing nice, for example Krefeld or Offenbach, but thats mostly because of the people, not the city itself.
Sorry for this hard critic, its not your fault.

As a german I rarely take the time to appreciate the beauty of those towns. Mainly because the views are so abundant and ubiqutous, why go to any of those places shownn in the video, if a very similar view is not 200m by walk away?

Of course there are towns that don't feature as much nice, old architecture and picturesque views. That doesn't mean they're not welcoming or worth to live in, and most are at least somewhere around another spot to admire architecture and/or landscape. Most of such "non-postcard" towns will be in the industrial centers of the 19th century, like the Ruhrpott. They're often coal-mining towns or steel-processing towns. But even those might have an old building or two - my hometown has a church the foundations of which date from the 13th century.
Unfortunately, most of these "The most beautiful spots in Germany" stay down in the south. There are so many beautiful, quaint towns and villages in northern and middle Germany.

A lot of the towns ranging from 100k to 500k inhabitants in Germany aren't as picturesque as the small towns you can see here. They are more like Dundee but without the Tay bridge. 😅

Google says that there are between 1,000 and 3,000 castles in Scotland. Germany has between 20,000 and 25,000 castles.

I’ve been to some of these shown towns, they’re really pretty, but where is Dinkelsbühl? As a German I don’t really appreciate the beauty which is right under my nose… when I travel l find countless amazing spots, like Scotland with its breathtaking landscape and beautiful Edinburgh… and I‘ve never been to Malaysia, tho…I’m sure it’s great to…

It's likw everywhere: There's all the tourist traps - especially aimed at those who *need* to do a "best of" because they have so little time - and the secret gems (coming from the Ruhr: all the places that were unimportant enough to survive WW2 ;))
Great for the video to point out that Rothenburg is a tourist trap, yet it ignores Heidelberg is one of the worst...?

you should watch some vids about the north and i mean the true north (not hamburg). its a complete different landscape and the architecture is very different from the south. i live in a northern region where other are going to do a vacation. this video shows almost only the south of germany and to be honest, i am really tired of watching reactions to this because its to much south.
    greetings

It is always so one sided what kind of cities are shown. In the north there are completely other cities and as always the whole eastern part of Germany was not mentioned. What about Weimar for example? Through the city goes a huge park (greenest city in Germany, half of the town is a park planned by Goethe). You have also the historical buildings (like almost every town in Germany) and also fancy new ones. And really important the highest density of cats per person living in a town, when my memory serves me right it is 2 cats per person living here. And the unique thing about Weimar, it has the best and worst of Germany combined. The first democracy of Germany was founded here and there is also a concentration camp and this town is the reason way Germany is called the land of the poets and thinkers. Of cause there are also a few castles (two in town and many around). Bauhaus also originated from here (together with Dessau). Over a million visitors come every year to visit Weimar, the town itself has only 65k. But still it is always forgotten in such videos.

There are definitely some very ugly and industrial areas in Germany, don't be fooled 😅
But it does indeed get offset with the beautiful places.
Generally, I would say the smaller towns are prettier and better preserved than the large cities, simply because of War Damage.

Pforzheim is pretty terrible. Got heavily bombed in WWII, so basically none of the old architecture survived. The cheap buildings from the 50s and 60s dominate the city views and since the city is also relatively poor, nothing is being maintained.

As a german citizen, what i find annoying the most about your video choices: 90% of the citys are stereotypical american "german cities" in the south. The north and west is almost never shown properly, it has also many castles and beautiful cities. Just because a city has some more percentage of old houses, doesn't mean it's a good city to live in or less beautiful than other cities.

You are right that Germany is completely undervalued. 1/3 of the country consists of forest, 1/3 of agricultural land, and only 1/3 is built on! There are also 77 islands in the North and Baltic Sea. 25,000 palaces, castles, and ruins. Apart from a desert, Germany has everything you could wish for in terms of landscape.

At some of this very nice towns only the historic inner city is nice and some big outskirts can be very ugly. There are generally many very boring and in parts very ugly towns. And, I experienced if you live in an ancient town that is flooded daily by american or asian or other tourists, that is not nice at all, or in some very nice towns the attitude of the locals can be the opposite, not nice at all, so you don't get much more that a "nice picture" if you live there. I have lived in many areas in Germany and often I said "the nicer the area the nastier the people".

Of course Germany also has some ugly, unhomely towns as well! For example, right next to the beautiful city of Heidelberg are the cities of Mannheim and Ludwigshafen, the latter being considered one of the ugliest cities in Germany. Mannheim for example has been destroyed many times, hence why you won't find many historic landsites in the city. While Heidelberg is the cultural hub in the area, Mannheim has been the industrial powerhouse for many centuries, due to its location between two of the biggest rivers in the area. During WW2 cities like these were targeted and almost completely destroyed, while university cities (such as Heidelberg) were not as invoved in the war efforts.
Also, Frankfurt for example is not as pretty as Google Images and vloggers make it seem. In some areas (for examlle at the centrail train station) it's so ugly and poor, that you'd be afraid to walk around there.
On the other hand, I just wanted to say, that Scotland to us Germans is a very beautiful and desirable holiday destination! I think every place has its good and bad sides :)
