Austin awesome. I lived at Peoria and 30th Ave. Flew out of turf airport which was off I 10 and bell. 1968-1974. Enjoy that summer heat as I now live in Florida 😅
Thanks for the comment Bob! Oh man the area has changed. Can’t even imagine that with everything so filled in now. Word has it City of Peoria is trying to get an airport planned and constructed in the coming years. Pretty sure it would have to be waaaaay out in the outskirts. I’ll enjoy the dry summer heat, you can have that humid summer heat 😅
Great question! One I try not to think of too much. All in I’m guessing we will be around 200k or so at the end. For now we are just taking it one kit at a time, but it will definitely get pricy in the coming years… Thanks for watching!
Great tips, thanks Austin. I am down in Mesa and still waiting on my emp kit. I have most of the tools (some on back order) and almost have the garage set up ready to go. I have 2 colleagues also building Vans, RV-6 & RV-12. Thanks for taking the time to make & post the videos. Paul
Thank you for watching and for the kind words! That is great to hear. I’m sure you are excited to get started. It sounds like you’ll have help from your colleagues, but feel free to reach out if you ever have any questions about anything in my videos!

Austin- How far apart were the skins when you were "done" and ready to rivet? Do the skins need to be touching and all the holes lined up (without clekos)?
I remember that they sat a bit apart and required quite some pull to get them held together for riveting. I don’t remember how far apart but I remember they were nowhere near lined up when resting with no clecos. If I did it again I’d probably spend a bit more time trying to get them to line up better, but it sounds like most builders have a similar experience and it ends up fine in the end.
@@AustinManke Thanks Austin. I got the top section of my -14A rudder "close". I'm OK with that because it doesn't take much effort with that short top section to bring all the holes in alignment for riveting. BUT, I've spent probably three hours just on the middle section. I've rolled both sides over and over and over and over... I might be half way done - and I'm reefing on it when I roll them. This has been by far the most frustrating part of my build to date. I'm using a 3/4" Schedule 40 PVC pipe (1" OD) based on your recommendation but I've tried 3 other sizes. The holes aren't anywhere near lined up. Like 2" apart right now. I guess I just need to spend a couple more DAYS folding these stupid skins??? I'd pay somebody $500 right now to finish this one step so I can move on :-)
@@bertschb it’s definitely one of the most frustrating parts of the build I’ve done so far. That’s right where I was when I decided to just rivet them together and accept the resistance they had in them. I used rubber coated gloves for grip, pulled them together, clecos, then riveted them. You could always do the same and come back to it later if the final product bothers you or if you have rubbing issues.
@@AustinManke I'm just worried about pillowing between the rivets if I have to force the skins together a little too much. I had that happen with the "aileron" test kit I built several months ago. I did buy some grippy gloves based on your recommendation and I'll use them if I need to force the skins together for riveting- which may happen based on my lack of progress so far. Thanks again for taking the time to reply. You really are helping me with my build. You are VERY good at coming up with creative ways to make your build easier.
@@bertschb ahhh okay. That makes sense. I remember getting it to the point where I was able to test with clecos and see no pillowing before riveting. Could be a good spot to stop and come back to after working on something else for a bit. That has saved me lots of time and money when I had the urge to force my way through something. And thank you so much!! I’m glad you have found the videos helpful!

Nice video
Thank you!
Was looking at your rivets on the surfaces. Looking at them at an angle with the reflection, they look perfect!
Thank you so much! Definitely happy with how they turned out
great video, very informative. nice work on your elevator.
Thank you so much!
Great videos, Austin. I’m just starting a build on the 14 now. Might be needing to connect with you in the near future. Keep em coming!
Thank you!! That’s great to hear. Enjoy the build. I’ll be back to it again shortly after wrapping up a few things with our new home. And absolutely!
Insanely cool to see the progress. Also I noticed the barrina led lights 🤌
Thank you!! Oh yeah, those lights are amazing!
Just curious do you have an idea of what when you get done you'll have into this airplane? Thanks for your time and the videos.

What is that add on to your squeezer that allows squeezing the trailing edge rivets. I need that. We back riveted ours but this looks much easier

What is the attachment to your squeezer that allows squeezing those rivets on the trailing edge. Where did you get it?
