Huge respect to Cooder. I first heard him on the Crossroads soundtrack. Then with Ali Farka Toure. Then this. Damn, so diverse. The man's got soul, that's for sure.

this is so great, it's a very interesting mix, im reading some people say this has a reggae rythm, well maybe, but you gotta listen to northern mexican music, what we call "norteño", listen to "los tigres del norte" and youll see, the key is el flaco being there, jimenez invented the style and gave it to us. great stuff, it's like my father's favorite music and mine (country, blues, etc) mixed. two weeks ago we shared a bottle of beer listenign to this...

Brilliant use of a song. It could be saccharine drivel. But a change of beat, a great rhythm section and the timing of his vocal make it into something special. It sounds an entirely different song to the Jim Reeves version.

@DocHolliday1881 I wouldn't want to argue with someone using your handle but for me this soft reggae rhythm makes the lyrics even more poignant than the versions that you mention. It is beautifully played and as Picasso said, 'If there were only one truth, you couldn't paint a hundred canvases on the same theme.

By this time Flaco, a consummate artist in his genre, is eclipsed by Ry's total command of the performance. Nonetheless, a great performance by two ( and more if you include the vocal accompianists) of genuine performers.

a very good music, though i don't know who is the singer, what more to say about the musicans, well, the sad thing is "he will 've to go" & it was'nt hard to figure out what was in the mind of that poor buddy, "he will 've to go, for good" though it is merely a song.
