Not quite. I used to think like you. But, Christina has always been an independent person. And her ending was perfect. She achieved her goals. But for that to happen she needed Burke for her dream to come true. The man that left her on the altar. The man who gave her freddom by leaving her. That's frustating. She was and still is my fave although she's no longer in the show.
Really? I think the only ending on this show apart from this one and one that ever did justice was Stephanie Edwards. At the end of season 13 it was emotional even though I didn’t particularly like her character even though I didn’t hate her.
I loved it that she danced it out with Meredith, and they had the “he’s not the sun..” conversation. Alex’s ending was very disappointing. There’s no way he would have left Jo for Izzy. She had his kids - fair enough - but Izzy didn’t bother telling him about them until years later!
That's why they said they had to kill off McDreamy, because he'd never leave Meredith and the kids. And I agree with you, I feel the same way about Alex. He'd never have left Jo. He'd have asked her to move with him to be near the kids. I get the logistical conundrum though, if Camila didn't want to leave the show. But it had already been established she didn't want kids, they could have had him ask and she say no.

Im fine with Justin Chambers decision to leave the show. That’s fine by everybody should have this choice. But what I’m not fine with is the way they did. I mean, seriously? Just leaving his wife with a mental health problem without figuring it out? For a b***h that left him and got his kids secretly? That’s absolutely unlogical after Karevs development. If he would come back now after doing that, he will never be the favorite charakter he was before for me. Bc his behaviour towards Jo was so mean.
Samantha Tantalo that’s it. And furthermore I just don’t think this ending was logical from a narrative perspective. The character development of Alex just didn’t bring this up. We knew this character for so long and I kinda felt betrayed by this unlogical twist. 🤷🏻♀️he know how it feels to be betrayed and left alone. He knows about Jos mental health problems. He just is nobody that would leave his unstable wife because of a woman who left him and got his kids in secret. The Alex I know would be a good father and would be there for his kids, but he would not leave Jo. And that is how they destroyed a so well developed character like Alex Karev. Within a second my most favourite character became a stranger and an idiot to me. This decision was just unlucky.
Lisa I feel like an interesting storyline they could do lnow is have jo attempt suicide bc she already has depression and Alex just left. And Levi would find her bc they lunge together and age her life. Or she could adopt the baby from the fire station
I think that instead of izzie, he should have stayed with his mom because maybe her mental health problems might have came back and then jo could have left for a little bit and offsceen could have visited them and decided that she wanted to stay in seattle instead of with his mom. They could have made that decision peacefully. Also, that still leaves space for alex to come back and also leaves spaces for characters like mer and bailey and jo to visit him from time to time. Thats a much more respectable and MUCH better way to go that still would have kept all his character development bc hes doing it for his mom which is noble. Also that would have made fans much more happy and caused way less backlash

I could not have said it better myself, I totally agree with you.they spent years building his character then destroyed it in a blink. Like Izzy was awful to him. He didn't have to live with her to be a father, not all great parents are married or together. I hate this part right here.
I agree. Season 16 was the worst ever. It took character we have loved and twisted them into characters I simply couldn't even like. This includes the behavior of Bailey and the absolutely horrible ending of Justin Chambers storyline. He had grown so much as a character and just leaving Jo was an absolutely crappy thing to do and completely uncharacteristic for the character we have grown to love.
Jean Ogden Maybe it’s just me, but I hate the way the writers have screwed up Meredith’s life. She went from strong to needy to holier than thou. I ignored Ellen Pompeo. I watched for Bailey, Webber, Jo, Ben, Jackson... even Catherine. The way Pompeo responded here & in other interviews, it’s almost like she’s forgotten that the role of Meredith Grey, prior to the last few seasons - for me anyhow, is what made her career. I don’t like the Deluca character. He’s wayyyyyyy too needy. The original Meredith Grey, Webber, or Bailey would never have allowed a resident to behave as he has, no matter how close to the golden girl Grey. Again, if it wasn’t for the other characters, esp Jo, Webber, Bailey, Jackson, & Amelia, I wouldn’t watch the show. I haven’t watched it as it’s aired. Instead, I catch up later so I can skip the Meredith Grey train wreck.

I disagree. I mean his face doesn't look 50, that's true. However, he put on weight with the years and they were constantly hiding it. He started putting on weight around the end of season 6 or the beginning of season 7. This would not happen with a woman unless she is pregnant and it is not included in the script.
I don’t mind that he left, it was just the way they chose the storyline. Alex spent years trying to get over Izzy and all his other “crazy” girlfriends, he finally met Jo and got remarried. Then just leaves Jo for the OG “crazy” girlfriend. Just my opinion- don’t hate me.
Daisy Walsh technically, Izzie wasn’t crazy but hallucinating as a result of the cancer. It was still a bad way to send off Alex. There would have been nothing wrong with Alex being with Jo and not being seen on camera anymore. This way, if he wanted to come back, his life wouldn’t be a train wreck. April left and hasn’t been seen, but she shares a child with Jackson. They just destroyed his character and 16 years of development. I’ve been a fan since day one but I’d rather they wind down and end the show rather than destroy characters.
Izzy was definitely crazy, way too emotional, way too attached to EVERYONE who gives her an ounce of attention and everything is all about her, that’s the reason she was taken off the show. Shonda hated her acting like she ran the show

I always felt like Alex and izzy were gonna get back together. I wish they brought her back and let it play out. I would have liked to see the struggle of Alex making the choice to leave his wife, meeting his kids for the first time and rediscovering his love for izzy. He could have atleast said goodbye and Jo would have still been hurt but it wouldn't have made alex seem so mean.
As I have said before they could have done it better if Jo had vanished for a bit and returned having that Alex and Jo went to meet his kids and they both made the decision that he should stay and try to build a relationship with his kids, because they both decided on that it would have made it less hard of Jo.
the thing is, i dont really care that he left, its just the way he left jo. that was rude and disrespectful and he didnt even have the guts to do it in person, he did it over a piece of paper. also, i think his character exit was one of the worst ones. youd think such a powerful character like alex whos been on the show for 16 years would get a way better exit. but there definitley is something off here. theres definitley something that happened behind the scenes or that someone said because everything just isnt adding up.
It's not my favourite ending and I wanted him to stay, bit I definitely don't think it is the worst or one of the worst endings. I think it was very well done, considering the circumstances. I really do not get people who continue complaining about his exit. Yes, it is sad for Jo but we all know why Justin left, so just let it go!

Something happened that they're not telling. You don't leave that abruptly after 16 years and you can't be in one more episode? They made the right choice because the show doesn't need anymore scandal. The Actress that plays Jo never even said goodbye to Chambers. Something's not right there. When Arizona and April left there were these long goodbyes. Ellen even sent out a short impersonal tweet. You would think a character like Alex that's been there so long would get a send-off.
I completely agree. No one other than the current show runner is mentioning Justin Chambers. I find that very odd for someone who's been on the show that long. It's a well known rumor that he doesn't get along with super woke Camilla Luddington - which is not surprising given their age difference and off camera personalities. I also think Chambers has drug or alcohol problems and not just problems with sleep. Whatever went down, I don't think he got fired. There is a rumor that the reason they didn't kill him off was because he has an open invitation back anytime on authority from Shonda Rhimes. He was/is well liked by most of the cast and crew, especially Rhimes, although she doesn't really run the day to day anymore. I suspect there was some sort of conflict and he he just decided to quit without notice to anyone, which probably pissed a lot of people off.
jjay I think he quit because he was earning less than other people in thE long term cast because he wasn’t directing or producing like Ellen Kevin and Jesse etc
I agreed. It must have been something serious or he wouldn't have left the show in the middle of a season, so abruptly. I mean, they have contracts to prevent things like that to happen. But I do not think it was a fight with sombody or something like it. It seems like he left on good terms with everyone. So, my guess, it's something health related that he's trying to keep out of the media.

He’s in izzies basement 1. If you remember when Alex would write his name on the whiteboard with average handwriting but the letter had beautiful handwriting. do you know who has pretty writing (Izzy) 2. He left jo with a letter and “went with Izzy” but remember how Izzy left (she left Alex and left him with A LETTER) 3. Izzie knows bailey and Meredith and i guess jo so the letters went to people she hoped were still there and would believe her letter
Did you notice at 7:43 in the video that Alex’s letter to Meredith is a mirror image? A friend picked up on it then told me. Had my daughter check it & she blew it up on the big screen tv so I could see it. That’s pretty strange. At least it was to me. Did you notice it? lol
Visions And lights if I remember correctly, izzie came back but Alex told her to leave. “Izzie took her scans to Alex to share the good news. He was excited and hugged her. He realized how much had happened and couldn't believe they -- and specifically he -- got through it. He thanked her for showing him he was a good man -- because now he knew he was good enough not to deserve the way she'd treated him. He said he was happy for her, but he wanted her "to go and be happy, and not come back." This was in series 6 .
What they did to Karev was a total betrayal of his character and everything he went through over the past 16 years. They could of had him stay in Ohio because his mom/sister was sick. They could have had one of them kill him off screen while in an altered state if they wanted to get rid of him for good. By the way, Camilla Luddington just had her baby in August, so it may not even get written in the show.
Exactly he could have left due to his mom maybe she died or got sick couldn't do it anymore and sent Jo divorce papers and decided to move in due to that loss

It’s not that he left but it’s how they wrote him off. His character deserved a better ending. It honestly feels like the character arc of Alex was completely undone.

He really left the show in the best way possible. Im not mad about it. Im sad to see him go. But I'm sure he will pop back up so Meredith can meet his kids. And after all izzie was his 1st love and he did give her the option to have babies with him. Idk like she said it paid tribute to the beginning of the whole series. He couldn't say bye to Jo or he wouldn't have left. He wanted those kids. I get that Jo has abandonment issues and that sucks but if he was gonna leave im glad he wasn't killed off.
I’m actually happy about how Karev left the show. I like Jolex but I love the firsts years and I always thought that Alex an Izzie never closed well their story. Kill off Alex would have been a very bad and cruel decision. Instead, Alex now has a happy ending and Jo will have in the future
I actually kinda loved how Alex left although they could have at least showed his face it was really good because they were able to showcase the past seasons of the show. It showed his growth as a character and tbh I liked that it was izzy because everyone kinda knew that Alex still loved her in a way. I hate that he left, he was my favorite character, but I loved how they did it and am excited about the possibilities for the show.
It was a very shocking exit, but beautiful. At the same time, you feel so incredibly bad for Jo. She finds a beautiful love after a heartbreakin life. But, that girl has so much strength & has risen so high, beat so many odds, even thru her tears I can see that pourin from her. Alex also had a tragic life, yet he pulled hisself out of that fire, rose to be a pediatric surgeon, & found he had kids that he didnt want to have a dad as bad as his. Sure, he coulda still been there for them, help support, show his love for them, & still stay with Jo. But remember, hes still an actor with a beautiful family who is settin out to expand on his dreams & career. He had such a great ride on a wonderful show, & I have a feelin he will be back in some ways. With a 15 yr stent, theyre his family too. Gonna miss you Justin, but Im excited to see whats in store for you!! ♥️
Glad his character is happy.... Now... it’s be nice for another greys spinoff... Izzy and Alex in THEIR hospital... it’d rock, but it would also mean Justin would have t return to that character which I doubt he wants to do... just yet...
I actually quite liked the option they went with in taking Alex out of the show. In a way, him going back to Izzie because he found out she had their children makes perfect sense.

I’m a huge fan of Greys and I was totally fine with it. He’s an actor and decided it was time. It was a unique exit and I accepted it. (I still miss Christina the most)

This episode had me crying not once, not twice, but THREE times! It was emotional and sad and nostalgic and bittersweet, but I think the storyline was good, even though it breaks my heart to see Alex leave his wife Jo and also his best friend, Meredith, as the only remaining one from their intern year. I never ever ever thought he would go back and end up with Izzy, and as much as I liked them at the time, I really loved him and Jo together and the relationship that they had before he left. I am sad for Jo and Mer and how their lives have, and will continue to, change now that Alex is gone from their lives and the show as a whole.
It makes sense that Alex ended up with Izzie because she was brought up so many times in his relationship with Jo, but it's incredibly sad because Jo kinda knew from the beginning that Izzie was the love of his life. Jo had suspicions from the beginning that if Izzie did end up having Alex's babies Alex would want to go back to her.
If there's one thing Greys Anatomy fans are good at, it's saying goodbye to our favourite characters. Wow that really sums up our feelings for the entire show tho doesn't it?
All good things must come to an end. I watched Quincy as a kid, Medical Centre etc loved hospital dramas and of course became an RN. Great show and will miss. Thanks Grey's actors loved you all!!!💕
I personally loved the way his character exit the show... in my opinion Alex going back to Izzie was awesome... I never liked Jo and found their relationship boring and to think that Alex went back to his first and only love I believe is great. I also enjoyed watching his last episode where they brought back even in glimpses characters from the first seasons, to me it was magical and what i was looking forward to seeing for a long time.
i have nothing but respect for the actor and i hope whatever real reason he left the show for he is okay but i just hate hate the writers what they did and how they absolutely butchered the character development of alex karev. and either way that story line was just awful and didn’t make sense. it doesn’t matter if someone has your kids it doesn’t mean you have to be with them or move away and leave everything behind without saying goodbye. if it was actually a good storyline he would have talked to jo and figured it out and she would have moved with him or the kids would have moved here and yeah he can co parent with izzy but it wouldn’t just make him leave his wife for her (not that i would ever want camilla to leave the show but i mean if it was a realistic thing instead of the writers ruining it) but maybe they can change it and say he did actually go visit his mom like he planned and that she has a break down because she was off her meds and they got in some kind of accident and she lied and wrote letters so no one would find out or so she could pretend everything was okay and didn’t have to face reality. i would 200% rather him be dead and have to deal with that grief than him loosing everything he has worked to do for no real reason. but i also don’t understand how ellen is always just fine with her co starts leaving, like i know she is the main character but like she should have been able to recognize that wasn’t the best story line for alex. but i do love justin chambers and whatever made him leave so abruptly that he couldn’t even film a final episode i hope he gets through. just my opinion sorry for the paragraph(:
i know a lot of people didn’t like his ending but if Justin had to go i’m glad Alex is offscreen living his life and that he has the family he’s always wanted with the woman that he would have ended up with if Shondra and Katie didn’t have beef, Alex and Izzie were meant to be together from the beginning but Shondra wouldn’t let Katie come back. i do hope Alex and Izzie (hopefully Shondra will let it happen) return for a visit for the last episode when the show goes off. i hope we get to see Cristina, Arizona and Callie for the last eppy too.
I wish that the actors of Izzie and Alex would have been in the episode that would have at least given us some closure. It’s just so sad that only Meredith is left. I miss George and Izzie and Christina and Derek and Mark and Lexie, and Alex and all the OGs things just aren’t the same and I miss the old days
I love the idea of him going to be with izzy. I adored Jo and Alex but the way he felt about Izzy was so magical and it makes sense for him to want to be with her once she finds out about their kids.

Honestly, I’m hoping Jo ends up pregnant in the beginning of the soon to be released series. At least we’d have something to remember him by, even if it makes Jo sad. Jo is one of my favorite characters and her and Alex were my favorite couple. I know It would just make Jo upset, but I really need a baby Alex. I know he won’t be returning, but it would give me some decent closure.
Ok, I’m kinda glad that he ended up with Izzie. I’ve always loved Izzie and Alex together. I would hate if he got killed and I just feel like Alex wouldn’t live in Seattle and not visit his friends and stuff. I think it’s really cute that Izzie had Alex’s kids. As much as I wanted Alex/Justin to stay on the show I love the ending.

im not angry that justin decided to leave but im angry about the way they wrote off his character it was so unrealistic of alex...imo alex fully got over izzie years ago she holds a special place in his heart and she always will since she was his first love but it was 10 years ago so i think he got over her..this ending was terrible i felt so bad for jo and shes one of my favourite characters seeing her get hurt just hurts ik alex left for a good reason im proud of him for stepping up and being a dad but what he did to jo was terrible..in his letter how he mentioned things about izzie and their kids imagine how jo must've felt reading about her husband talking about how he loves his kids he had with his ex...overall i hated this ending and hope jo rises like she said she would :))

Of course we would love to see Alex return. If he has been struggling with his mental or emotional health, Or has simply been unhappy off camera, I am happy to accept his departure. Why not outcry for the return of Christina, for example. We have lost so many beloved characters from this show. My biggest heartbreak was the loss of little Grey and McSexy. For a while I thought I’d have to give grey’s up if they killed off Webber. I love this show. I have lost track of how many times I have rewatched the entire series. Any time my mental illness with depression has had me feeling lonely in this world, I rewatch the series and feel soothed like I’m visiting with family. I feel a bit like as in with real families, they need to grow and pursue their RL dreams. We will always have seattle grace aka grey-sloan memorial. ❤️
Over the years there have been many betrayals from the show runners (Lexie's, Mark's and especially Derek's death) but the way they ended Alex's story is ths worst of all. There is absolutely nothing they can do now to make it better. I am done with the show. I keep rewatching earlier seasons but will always end with Cristina's departure. After Derek's death Alex and Jo were the only reason I continued watching. If you rewatch the earlier seasons Alex and Izzy never made sense as a couple. They were immature and almost always had a problem. I also got the sense that Izzy kept trying to change him always believing the worst of him. And he was immature. But he grew so so much over the seasons and his relationship with Jo just made sense. They really got each other. And then they choose to ignore 16 seasons of work and make him exit by leaving some stupid letters to return to Izzy?!! And what absolutely got me was the show runner then completely disregarding the fans' reaction by saying she loved Alex's ending and that the episode was just beautiful in her opinion. In other words 'screw you everyone, who even cares about the opinions of viewers anyway'. So yeah after they screwed up Meredith's story by not only killing the love of her life but then pairing her off with someone who is so obviously below her and not worthy or deserving of her, everything that Owen did to screw up his love life after Cristina's departure, all the major character's leaving even the ones I grew to love like April...the new residents who are completely useless and I couldn't care less about their storyline if I tried and whose only purpose in the show is to make the show appear more 'woke' now the only couple that actually makes sense is Ben and Bailey. And that's really very little reason to return to the show next year. So yeah rant over but the point is this is what happens when a show is running for too long. Even Ellen Pompeo said that Alex's departure episode reminded her of how good the show was in the earlier seasons. So even though the idea of making the Pandemic the central theme of the next season sounds interesting I am done and especially after the show runner's lack of concern over the viewers' opinion I hope other people are too
Sorry if I’m double posting this but even if us fans keep freaking out over his character leaving he can’t come back unless they also bring back Izzy because there is no way Alex will abandon his kids like his father did to him and his siblings. I would love for there to bring back two of the original interns so Meredith isn’t alone I just would want it to be Alex and christina
I think it was an amazing ending. What are they gonna do? The usual “good bye. You can call me whenever. See ya”? I love seeing the past clips and IZZIE IS ENDGAME for Karev. Love Jo. But Izzie forever.
I respect his decision to leave, i do but Krista Vernoff ruined this. Still can't believe they wrote him going back to Izzie. I'm sorry but that i will never forgive her for it. I vented to Krista on twitter too and she blocked me for it. Like our opinions don't matter. I've been a fan of the show from day one so its kinda sad really she can't take criticism. We need a new showrunner honestly....Also Jo had just gone through what she did with her own mental health and then they turn around and do this to her? Krista killed Alex's character development completely. I didn't want Alex killed either but there was definitely a better way to write him out then send him back to Izzie. It still makes me mad. Anyways there is nothing we can do about it now :(
You are correct in your assumption that Crista Vernoff doesn't care. I read an interview with her where she basically said that she doesn't agree that Alex's exit was bad and that in her opinion it was beautiful. You run a show for viewers so you should care about their opinions and take criticism instead of then telling a reporter that you don't agree. What she did was basically say 'screw you everyone, who cares about your opinion anyway' and after everything she did with the show this is for me the final nail in the coffin. Not quite. I used to think like you. But, Christina has always been an independent person. And her ending was perfect. She achieved her goals. But for that to happen she needed Burke for her dream to come true. The man that left her on the altar. The man who gave her freddom by leaving her. That's frustating. She was and still is my fave although she's no longer in the show.
Really? I think the only ending on this show apart from this one and one that ever did justice was Stephanie Edwards. At the end of season 13 it was emotional even though I didn’t particularly like her character even though I didn’t hate her.
Arizona's exit was nice she went to start her own practice with her mentor and its implied that she planned on making things work with Callie.

I loved it that she danced it out with Meredith, and they had the “he’s not the sun..” conversation. Alex’s ending was very disappointing. There’s no way he would have left Jo for Izzy. She had his kids - fair enough - but Izzy didn’t bother telling him about them until years later!

He'd have asked her to move with him to be near the kids. I get the logistical conundrum though, if Camila didn't want to leave the show. But it had already been established she didn't want kids, they could have had him ask and she say no.

Im fine with Justin Chambers decision to leave the show. That’s fine by everybody should have this choice. But what I’m not fine with is the way they did. I mean, seriously? Just leaving his wife with a mental health problem without figuring it out? For a b***h that left him and got his kids secretly? That’s absolutely unlogical after Karevs development. If he would come back now after doing that, he will never be the favorite charakter he was before for me. Bc his behaviour towards Jo was so mean.

Samantha Tantalo that’s it. And furthermore I just don’t think this ending was logical from a narrative perspective. The character development of Alex just didn’t bring this up. We knew this character for so long and I kinda felt betrayed by this unlogical twist. 🤷🏻♀️he know how it feels to be betrayed and left alone. He knows about Jos mental health problems. He just is nobody that would leave his unstable wife because of a woman who left him and got his kids in secret. The Alex I know would be a good father and would be there for his kids, but he would not leave Jo. And that is how they destroyed a so well developed character like Alex Karev. Within a second my most favourite character became a stranger and an idiot to me. This decision was just unlucky.

I think that instead of izzie, he should have stayed with his mom because maybe her mental health problems might have came back and then jo could have left for a little bit and offsceen could have visited them and decided that she wanted to stay in seattle instead of with his mom. They could have made that decision peacefully. Also, that still leaves space for alex to come back and also leaves spaces for characters like mer and bailey and jo to visit him from time to time. Thats a much more respectable and MUCH better way to go that still would have kept all his character development bc hes doing it for his mom which is noble. Also that would have made fans much more happy and caused way less backlash

I could not have said it better myself, I totally agree with you.they spent years building his character then destroyed it in a blink. Like Izzy was awful to him. He didn't have to live with her to be a father, not all great parents are married or together. I hate this part right here.
I refuse to acknowledge season 16 ever happened. Grey's Anatomy ended for me with season 15, with Alex and Jo happily married.

I agree. Season 16 was the worst ever. It took character we have loved and twisted them into characters I simply couldn't even like. This includes the behavior of Bailey and the absolutely horrible ending of Justin Chambers storyline. He had grown so much as a character and just leaving Jo was an absolutely crappy thing to do and completely uncharacteristic for the character we have grown to love.
Jean Ogden Maybe it’s just me, but I hate the way the writers have screwed up Meredith’s life. She went from strong to needy to holier than thou. I ignored Ellen Pompeo. I watched for Bailey, Webber, Jo, Ben, Jackson... even Catherine. The way Pompeo responded here & in other interviews, it’s almost like she’s forgotten that the role of Meredith Grey, prior to the last few seasons - for me anyhow, is what made her career. I don’t like the Deluca character. He’s wayyyyyyy too needy. The original Meredith Grey, Webber, or Bailey would never have allowed a resident to behave as he has, no matter how close to the golden girl Grey. Again, if it wasn’t for the other characters, esp Jo, Webber, Bailey, Jackson, & Amelia, I wouldn’t watch the show. I haven’t watched it as it’s aired. Instead, I catch up later so I can skip the Meredith Grey train wreck.

I disagree. I mean his face doesn't look 50, that's true. However, he put on weight with the years and they were constantly hiding it. He started putting on weight around the end of season 6 or the beginning of season 7. This would not happen with a woman unless she is pregnant and it is not included in the script.

Daisy Walsh technically, Izzie wasn’t crazy but hallucinating as a result of the cancer. It was still a bad way to send off Alex. There would have been nothing wrong with Alex being with Jo and not being seen on camera anymore. This way, if he wanted to come back, his life wouldn’t be a train wreck. April left and hasn’t been seen, but she shares a child with Jackson. They just destroyed his character and 16 years of development. I’ve been a fan since day one but I’d rather they wind down and end the show rather than destroy characters.
Izzy was definitely crazy, way too emotional, way too attached to EVERYONE who gives her an ounce of attention and everything is all about her, that’s the reason she was taken off the show. Shonda hated her acting like she ran the show

I always felt like Alex and izzy were gonna get back together. I wish they brought her back and let it play out. I would have liked to see the struggle of Alex making the choice to leave his wife, meeting his kids for the first time and rediscovering his love for izzy. He could have atleast said goodbye and Jo would have still been hurt but it wouldn't have made alex seem so mean.

As I have said before they could have done it better if Jo had vanished for a bit and returned having that Alex and Jo went to meet his kids and they both made the decision that he should stay and try to build a relationship with his kids, because they both decided on that it would have made it less hard of Jo.
the thing is, i dont really care that he left, its just the way he left jo. that was rude and disrespectful and he didnt even have the guts to do it in person, he did it over a piece of paper. also, i think his character exit was one of the worst ones. youd think such a powerful character like alex whos been on the show for 16 years would get a way better exit. but there definitley is something off here. theres definitley something that happened behind the scenes or that someone said because everything just isnt adding up.
It's not my favourite ending and I wanted him to stay, bit I definitely don't think it is the worst or one of the worst endings. I think it was very well done, considering the circumstances. I really do not get people who continue complaining about his exit. Yes, it is sad for Jo but we all know why Justin left, so just let it go!

The Alex character grew so much during all the seasons, it was awful how they resorted to the letter crap. I hope Justin as a person is doing better!
I feel like at this point in the show they will just put Jo in that stupid Owen-Amelia-Link-Teddy rectangle like ugh they could've had Alex just go off the show by having him work somewhere else and not completely leave her behind. Something happened that they're not telling. You don't leave that abruptly after 16 years and you can't be in one more episode? They made the right choice because the show doesn't need anymore scandal. The Actress that plays Jo never even said goodbye to Chambers. Something's not right there. When Arizona and April left there were these long goodbyes. Ellen even sent out a short impersonal tweet. You would think a character like Alex that's been there so long would get a send-off.
I completely agree. No one other than the current show runner is mentioning Justin Chambers. I find that very odd for someone who's been on the show that long. It's a well known rumor that he doesn't get along with super woke Camilla Luddington - which is not surprising given their age difference and off camera personalities. I also think Chambers has drug or alcohol problems and not just problems with sleep. Whatever went down, I don't think he got fired. There is a rumor that the reason they didn't kill him off was because he has an open invitation back anytime on authority from Shonda Rhimes. He was/is well liked by most of the cast and crew, especially Rhimes, although she doesn't really run the day to day anymore. I suspect there was some sort of conflict and he he just decided to quit without notice to anyone, which probably pissed a lot of people off.

But I do not think it was a fight with sombody or something like it. It seems like he left on good terms with everyone. So, my guess, it's something health related that he's trying to keep out of the media.

2. He left jo with a letter and “went with Izzy” but remember how Izzy left (she left Alex and left him with A LETTER)
3. Izzie knows bailey and Meredith and i guess jo so the letters went to people she hoped were still there and would believe her letter

Visions And lights if I remember correctly, izzie came back but Alex told her to leave. “Izzie took her scans to Alex to share the good news. He was excited and hugged her. He realized how much had happened and couldn't believe they -- and specifically he -- got through it. He thanked her for showing him he was a good man -- because now he knew he was good enough not to deserve the way she'd treated him. He said he was happy for her, but he wanted her "to go and be happy, and not come back." This was in series 6 .

What they did to Karev was a total betrayal of his character and everything he went through over the past 16 years. They could of had him stay in Ohio because his mom/sister was sick. They could have had one of them kill him off screen while in an altered state if they wanted to get rid of him for good.
By the way, Camilla Luddington just had her baby in August, so it may not even get written in the show.
Exactly he could have left due to his mom maybe she died or got sick couldn't do it anymore and sent Jo divorce papers and decided to move in due to that loss

And after all izzie was his 1st love and he did give her the option to have babies with him. Idk like she said it paid tribute to the beginning of the whole series. I’m actually happy about how Karev left the show. I like Jolex but I love the firsts years and I always thought that Alex an Izzie never closed well their story. Kill off Alex would have been a very bad and cruel decision. Instead, Alex now has a happy ending and Jo will have in the future

I actually kinda loved how Alex left although they could have at least showed his face it was really good because they were able to showcase the past seasons of the show. It showed his growth as a character and tbh I liked that it was izzy because everyone kinda knew that Alex still loved her in a way. I hate that he left, he was my favorite character, but I loved how they did it and am excited about the possibilities for the show.

It was a very shocking exit, but beautiful. At the same time, you feel so incredibly bad for Jo. She finds a beautiful love after a heartbreakin life. But, that girl has so much strength & has risen so high, beat so many odds, even thru her tears I can see that pourin from her. Alex also had a tragic life, yet he pulled hisself out of that fire, rose to be a pediatric surgeon, & found he had kids that he didnt want to have a dad as bad as his. Sure, he coulda still been there for them, help support, show his love for them, & still stay with Jo. But remember, hes still an actor with a beautiful family who is settin out to expand on his dreams & career. He had such a great ride on a wonderful show, & I have a feelin he will be back in some ways. With a 15 yr stent, theyre his family too. Gonna miss you Justin, but Im excited to see whats in store for you!! ♥️

This episode had me crying not once, not twice, but THREE times! It was emotional and sad and nostalgic and bittersweet, but I think the storyline was good, even though it breaks my heart to see Alex leave his wife Jo and also his best friend, Meredith, as the only remaining one from their intern year. I never ever ever thought he would go back and end up with Izzy, and as much as I liked them at the time, I really loved him and Jo together and the relationship that they had before he left. I am sad for Jo and Mer and how their lives have, and will continue to, change now that Alex is gone from their lives and the show as a whole.
It makes sense that Alex ended up with Izzie because she was brought up so many times in his relationship with Jo, but it's incredibly sad because Jo kinda knew from the beginning that Izzie was the love of his life. Jo had suspicions from the beginning that if Izzie did end up having Alex's babies Alex would want to go back to her.

I personally loved the way his character exit the show... in my opinion Alex going back to Izzie was awesome... I never liked Jo and found their relationship boring and to think that Alex went back to his first and only love I believe is great. I also enjoyed watching his last episode where they brought back even in glimpses characters from the first seasons, to me it was magical and what i was looking forward to seeing for a long time.
i have nothing but respect for the actor and i hope whatever real reason he left the show for he is okay but i just hate hate the writers what they did and how they absolutely butchered the character development of alex karev. and either way that story line was just awful and didn’t make sense. it doesn’t matter if someone has your kids it doesn’t mean you have to be with them or move away and leave everything behind without saying goodbye. if it was actually a good storyline he would have talked to jo and figured it out and she would have moved with him or the kids would have moved here and yeah he can co parent with izzy but it wouldn’t just make him leave his wife for her (not that i would ever want camilla to leave the show but i mean if it was a realistic thing instead of the writers ruining it) but maybe they can change it and say he did actually go visit his mom like he planned and that she has a break down because she was off her meds and they got in some kind of accident and she lied and wrote letters so no one would find out or so she could pretend everything was okay and didn’t have to face reality. i would 200% rather him be dead and have to deal with that grief than him loosing everything he has worked to do for no real reason. but i also don’t understand how ellen is always just fine with her co starts leaving, like i know she is the main character but like she should have been able to recognize that wasn’t the best story line for alex. but i do love justin chambers and whatever made him leave so abruptly that he couldn’t even film a final episode i hope he gets through. just my opinion sorry for the paragraph(:

i know a lot of people didn’t like his ending but if Justin had to go i’m glad Alex is offscreen living his life and that he has the family he’s always wanted with the woman that he would have ended up with if Shondra and Katie didn’t have beef, Alex and Izzie were meant to be together from the beginning but Shondra wouldn’t let Katie come back. i do hope Alex and Izzie (hopefully Shondra will let it happen) return for a visit for the last episode when the show goes off. i hope we get to see Cristina, Arizona and Callie for the last eppy too.

I wish that the actors of Izzie and Alex would have been in the episode that would have at least given us some closure. It’s just so sad that only Meredith is left. I miss George and Izzie and Christina and Derek and Mark and Lexie, and Alex and all the OGs things just aren’t the same and I miss the old days

I love the idea of him going to be with izzy. I adored Jo and Alex but the way he felt about Izzy was so magical and it makes sense for him to want to be with her once she finds out about their kids.

I personally think it was good for him, we can’t be selfish and keep the actors on screen whilst going through so much. Justin was on the show for so long, I’m thankful he didn’t leave so soon.

I loved Alex's final episode. He got his happily ever after, which he deserved, and it was a beautiful tribute to him! It's one of my favorite episodes.😊

Honestly, I’m hoping Jo ends up pregnant in the beginning of the soon to be released series. At least we’d have something to remember him by, even if it makes Jo sad.
Jo is one of my favorite characters and her and Alex were my favorite couple. I know It would just make Jo upset, but I really need a baby Alex. I know he won’t be returning, but it would give me some decent closure.
Ok, I’m kinda glad that he ended up with Izzie. I’ve always loved Izzie and Alex together. I would hate if he got killed and I just feel like Alex wouldn’t live in Seattle and not visit his friends and stuff. I think it’s really cute that Izzie had Alex’s kids. As much as I wanted Alex/Justin to stay on the show I love the ending.

im not angry that justin decided to leave but im angry about the way they wrote off his character it was so unrealistic of alex...imo alex fully got over izzie years ago she holds a special place in his heart and she always will since she was his first love but it was 10 years ago so i think he got over her..this ending was terrible i felt so bad for jo and shes one of my favourite characters seeing her get hurt just hurts ik alex left for a good reason im proud of him for stepping up and being a dad but what he did to jo was terrible..in his letter how he mentioned things about izzie and their kids imagine how jo must've felt reading about her husband talking about how he loves his kids he had with his ex...overall i hated this ending and hope jo rises like she said she would :))

people dont understand its not up to them. we can watch the show in a year and they have been there for 15. its not fair to get mad at them when they want a break from it all.
Of course we would love to see Alex return. If he has been struggling with his mental or emotional health, Or has simply been unhappy off camera, I am happy to accept his departure. Why not outcry for the return of Christina, for example. We have lost so many beloved characters from this show. My biggest heartbreak was the loss of little Grey and McSexy. For a while I thought I’d have to give grey’s up if they killed off Webber. I love this show. I have lost track of how many times I have rewatched the entire series. Any time my mental illness with depression has had me feeling lonely in this world, I rewatch the series and feel soothed like I’m visiting with family. I feel a bit like as in with real families, they need to grow and pursue their RL dreams. We will always have seattle grace aka grey-sloan memorial. ❤️
Over the years there have been many betrayals from the show runners (Lexie's, Mark's and especially Derek's death) but the way they ended Alex's story is ths worst of all. There is absolutely nothing they can do now to make it better. I am done with the show. I keep rewatching earlier seasons but will always end with Cristina's departure. After Derek's death Alex and Jo were the only reason I continued watching. If you rewatch the earlier seasons Alex and Izzy never made sense as a couple. They were immature and almost always had a problem. I also got the sense that Izzy kept trying to change him always believing the worst of him. And he was immature. But he grew so so much over the seasons and his relationship with Jo just made sense. They really got each other. And then they choose to ignore 16 seasons of work and make him exit by leaving some stupid letters to return to Izzy?!! And what absolutely got me was the show runner then completely disregarding the fans' reaction by saying she loved Alex's ending and that the episode was just beautiful in her opinion. In other words 'screw you everyone, who even cares about the opinions of viewers anyway'. So yeah after they screwed up Meredith's story by not only killing the love of her life but then pairing her off with someone who is so obviously below her and not worthy or deserving of her, everything that Owen did to screw up his love life after Cristina's departure, all the major character's leaving even the ones I grew to love like April...the new residents who are completely useless and I couldn't care less about their storyline if I tried and whose only purpose in the show is to make the show appear more 'woke' now the only couple that actually makes sense is Ben and Bailey. And that's really very little reason to return to the show next year. So yeah rant over but the point is this is what happens when a show is running for too long. Even Ellen Pompeo said that Alex's departure episode reminded her of how good the show was in the earlier seasons. So even though the idea of making the Pandemic the central theme of the next season sounds interesting I am done and especially after the show runner's lack of concern over the viewers' opinion I hope other people are too
Sorry if I’m double posting this but even if us fans keep freaking out over his character leaving he can’t come back unless they also bring back Izzy because there is no way Alex will abandon his kids like his father did to him and his siblings. I would love for there to bring back two of the original interns so Meredith isn’t alone I just would want it to be Alex and christina

I think it was an amazing ending. What are they gonna do? The usual “good bye. You can call me whenever. See ya”? I love seeing the past clips and IZZIE IS ENDGAME for Karev. Love Jo. But Izzie forever.

I respect his decision to leave, i do but Krista Vernoff ruined this. Still can't believe they wrote him going back to Izzie. I'm sorry but that i will never forgive her for it. I vented to Krista on twitter too and she blocked me for it. Like our opinions don't matter. I've been a fan of the show from day one so its kinda sad really she can't take criticism. We need a new showrunner honestly....Also Jo had just gone through what she did with her own mental health and then they turn around and do this to her? Krista killed Alex's character development completely. I didn't want Alex killed either but there was definitely a better way to write him out then send him back to Izzie. It still makes me mad. Anyways there is nothing we can do about it now :(
You are correct in your assumption that Crista Vernoff doesn't care. I read an interview with her where she basically said that she doesn't agree that Alex's exit was bad and that in her opinion it was beautiful. You run a show for viewers so you should care about their opinions and take criticism instead of then telling a reporter that you don't agree. What she did was basically say 'screw you everyone, who cares about your opinion anyway' and after everything she did with the show this is for me the final nail in the coffin. I briefly considered watching the next season about the pandemic especially if it could be ths last one (and apparently even that isn't going to happen) but her dismissal is it for me
