So why did you cut a square in the tile? Why not just three holes, one for the valve, and two smaller ones for the screws?

Great video. I have one question though. is it okay to use an iron pipe cap on an install like this? i figure that would rust out over time,🤷🏼‍♂ but i could be wrong.

What technique did you use to know where to drill the hole in the shower so that it opened up in the right, off-center place between the studs?

He marked where all the studs were and then in between them should be a void space. It's a bit of an educated guess, there could have been a heat run in there but he got lucky

Galvanic corrosion will eat all this valve in 2-3 years with this cap also will clog it with rust. Guys, don’t get cheap, it’ll bite you.
