Good job man. A lot of people would have chucked it and bought a new one. Learned how to fix the rear electric window on my Sequoia easily from RUclips and about a dozen other things!
You did it right. I call that a dirty POT. Sometimes just repeatedly moving full range a lot will clean the wiper contacts, or hosing it like you did with contact clean and then working it in. Moving contacts tarnish, and friction can scrape through it, but the cleaner helps a lot. Good job sir!
I buy a lot of old radios/.ham gear not working this is something i do every-time. Sweet tune Jack and Diane - John Mellencamp. Nice shop wish mine looked as clean.
I have an old Juliette receiver with 8-track in my garage. The selector knob does the same thing, making the left and right channels not work on occasion. You have to play with it to get it back. The volume works fine. Thanks brother. I am going to do the same.
32 years old. I almost bought another receiver when I was in Best Buy the other day. Then I did a little homework on RUclips and now its fixed. Saved $160 bucks. Thanks for the comments..
35 years old! It's barely broken in LOL I have a Sansui 3000 that dates to the 70's May I suggest a piece of material over the vents on the case top to filter out the worst of what falls inside.
Its hard to find good ole Chinese ingenuity like that anymore. lol Awesome just another way to save money and fix what ya got instead of throw it away and spend money on a new one. God Bless brother
ive got that same white poly rope for a boat, still in the wrap. might help to put all that stuff under thr reciever instead of back on top covering the vents, lol.
I forgot to mention that the cleaner also adds some contact lube. That rig will not probably out live you if a voltage spike doesn't get it. How old was it before you had issues? It will probably be that long before that POT acts up again. :) The spray is flammable, make sure it vents and dries well.
Beer typing. I meant it will probably out live you. If you choose to clean all the other pots, let them air out before powering on. You should not even need to remove them, just hose them with cleaner, work them, and let them dry and air out. I am I DIY fixer, I hate letting good things go to waste.
Thanks for this video. In a throw away, society such as the one we presently live in, we have forgotten how to fix our equipment. Nice to see some old time American spirit in action. Sounds great too. Stay safe.

Hey Fubar, why did you stop making videos? You have posted some great stuff.
The time you spent fixing it is definitely worth it if you get to listen to old school John Mellencamp.
It is a variable resistor. You can also use isopropyl alcohol and forced air to clean the potentiometer (pot).
Thanks..Chopp
