Did you not have any algae eaters in your tank? hermit crabsm shrimps, even saltwaer clams will such up the floating gren algae in the water.Urchins also eat algae.
Appreciate the advice! I have had a clean up crew in my tank, but I'll be honest, my hermit crabs seem to not live very long. I currently have a tiger conch that is amazing. I had an urchin, which also did great, but is a bulldozer 😂 Any ideas why my hermits don't live long? Parameters are good, tank stays between 77-79 degrees.
With saltwater tanks, the preference will be to use RODI water to top-off your tank when the levels drop due to evaporation. The salt remains in the tank, only the water itself is evaporating.
Absolutely! I highly recommend going with the inTank Media Basket for the Biocube. It replaces the large filter component and sponges and allows for better flow through the rear chambers. In the media basket I have filter floss on top, followed by Matrix Carbon and Purigen. In the 2nd chamber I also have a smaller self-made basket (eggcrate) that holds a decent number of MarinePure GEMS.
Both products should be accomplishing the same goal, so I don't think it would hurt, but I also don't see the need for using both. Good luck with your new tank!
There is some controversy about using distilled water, but most people have had no issues. The best way to know is to purchase a TDS meter and check the water you're getting. If you would like a meter recommendation let me know!
@@jaydeboudreaux5692 ideally you want your source water to be at 0. The reason being, if you ever have any algae or other issues, you can eliminate your water as the reason. Low TDS numbers may be fine, you'll hear stories of people using tap water, but to minimize headaches, you'll want 0 (before adding salt obviously).
@@TheFishTankGuy I wasn’t going to use distilled I was just going to purchase water from petco but when I got home I texted the salinity of the water and it was 1.050 that’s very high correct or is that ok?

I don’t know if you’ll see this hut from the water loss as every tank has should I top/refill it w freshwater or ro or salt

Great reboot, and would love to hear if you customize any of the filtration parts or just stuck with what came with biocube

@@TheFishTankGuy ok thanks and let’s say I get this TDS meter what should it read for safe water?

I had purchased this. Imagitarium Pacific Ocean Water, 5 gallons
Great update, we all go through these "soft re-boots" from time to time!
It's a lot of work, but I think it's worth it. It also renews interest in my tank for me.
Thanks for the update the tank looks great
Thanks Joe!
