The handle for the wind up jack being the wrong way around! 😂 so funny! My dad took me and the family along here as kids, the local cop said, yeah, you’ll be right.
Great video again. You are spoiling us. Hot tip. If you get a flat tyre but it holds air. Pump it up to say 60psi that way the car will be higher and you won’t need to jack the car up as higher.
Hey Justin, Here is a few tyre repair hints: 1. Cut your plugs in half. 2. Once you push your plug in, rotate a quarter turn 3. Cut off excessive plug once plugged. Just a few hacks ive used in the bush.
You missed the Algebukina Bridge just south of Oodnadatta. It’s my favourite outback free campsite alongside a permanent waterhole. The bridge is the longest bold Ghan Railway bridge
Justin another great video. In 2012 I did a stint over in WA working for Gina Reinhardt managing teams of surveyors. We 4WDrove virgin bush, no tracks all day every day. Three vehicles, 6 spares between them. I use to average changing 2 tyres/day. Once we hit 3, we'd call it and turn tail and head home. I couldn't get caught out in the bush over night - SOP's for Gina. So, home we went! Sometimes we'd pick up a 4th extricating ourselves out off the tracks we'd made on the way home, but mostly we made it- stressful to say the least. They were all split rims so after a long day I then had to have a beer of course while breaking down the rims and inserting tubes in all the punctured tyres. Then after that I'd try and fix a few punctured tubes ready for the next day. 12-14 hour days - Lots of fun. 🤣
Between William creek there is a side track to the peak telegraph station ruins and the ruins of an old copper mine. There is also the Algebuckina Bridge which is a good Camp site and an impressive structure. When we did it we went over to Coober Pedy and then back to William creek to finish the oodnadatta track.
years ago we used to swim in the bubbler , was strange as you cant see down at all! then they fenced it off, now it has ramps all around it, times have changed!
Very informative. I agree the Oodnadatta Track is a great outback drive. We had perfect conditions in June 2013 and were the only 2WD car we saw on the Track in our 15 year old Citroen Xantia turbo 1.9 diesel with 120,000 kms. The fabulous height adjustable hydropneumatic suspension with front wheel drive was probably the most comfortable way for Marree to William Creek, Oodnadatta, Coober Pedy in one day. A fair bit on the track had been recently graded, there was just enough light rain to quell the dust, but too much on the short cut from Williams Creek as it closed that day. Lake Eyre was full, and not many flies.. but we did not camp. Marree Hotel and then the Underground Motel. Fabulous. No punctures and 5.4 litres / 100 km diesel. Loved it. I think the relatively light load and super compliant suspension and road grading contributed to the track being gentle on our Michelin road tyres.. Not somewhere I would attempt the Citroen party trick of driving on 3 wheels!!
Another cracking vid. Oh here we go again BOO-YAH here's hoping!! Looking forward to Coober Pedy next time. In the meantime take care!! Us from the UK again :)
Super nice, down to earth and knowledgeable people who communicate super helpful info in a way that’s easy to understand. I have bought the ‘water tank filler’ device, rv wifi and a couple of other things from your recommendation and I swear by all of them! Thanks guys! 👍 Chris
4:40. thanks for the tip about a mat (instead of a tarp). the handle you had on the jack shaft was on arse-about. that's why you could only do half a turn at a time. I use my feet/ankles to position the wheel relative to the studs instead of my knees, but that's with car tyres, not 4WD wheels / tyres. thanks for all the tips!
We just did this track with our van in a day. Started off with slippery mud at Maree and faced a full on dust storm just after William Creek with zero visibility! No carnage thankfully. Had Coward Springs spa all to ourselves 😊
it's one of those storms that ended the curdimurka outback ball, it hit late afternoon of the ball, took simon months to pick up rubbish AND cash for kilometers away!!!
My dad did a lot of surveying for Telstra back in the 80s and I often went with him. The Oodnadatta track was one of the may places we went. This is where my love for camping began. Thanks for the tips. Yes get a real jack lol. Nothing worse than a flat I had 3 in as many weeks once 😩
The flies at Boulia, were next level. Then sundown Bou-yah in come the mosquitoes. Absolutely spectacular being out in the never never. Remember about 14 or 15 years ago there must of been a spate of it up the west coast, sure there was about 15 separate people do the run from Perth to Darwin on a bike in all weather and seasons
Rode my bicycle up through the Flinders Ranges to Marree, up the track to Oodnadatta, then south west towards Cooper Pedy, then west through Painted Desert to Ackeringa and Copper Hills Stations, then onward to Cadney Park roadhouse.
Yes to the old bridge it was cool and also the telegraph station close to that close to the bridge, did the track back in 2001 in a 74 Kingswood with 3spares didn't get a flat , pink road House well yeh cos it's in the movie. Oodnadatta Track, Peake station, SA, Australia
When we where there coward springs was packed! And the road into the bubbler was so rough we turned around after a K. Such a great experience that whole area though! We loved it.

Did the Old Ghan Line from Alice Springs to William Creek (via the northern parts of the Oodnadatta track) in my 2010, Diesel Subaru Forester. I was well prepared with spares, etc and absolutely loved it. Thanks for your video guys, I think I want to complete the southern end now
Justin just a tip for tyre plugging, when you push the plug in turn the handle a couple of times before pulling it out, creates a ball on the inside of the hole, bigger surface area to seal, love the vids as always guys.
So lucky to see water in south lake Eyre, coward spring is a great place to stop and have a quick dip, but better off continuing on to William creek and stop there the night, (PS watch out for planes landing, the air strip goes across the road) also try and do a flight out to the painted hills from William creek its an absolute must do
Hi Guys, loved your Vid of the Oodnadatta Track, we went the same route as you guys last year and had a great trip, we camped at mainly railway sidings along the way, would have to highly recommend this trip. Thanks for another great vid, safe travels Anton & Tania
Great to see some familiar territory through your eyes. We did it the other way around and then up the Birdsville Track - and stayed in Di's Dugout 😁. I've been fascinated by the dugouts since I was a kid and it made for a great break from the swags in the middle of our trip.
Nice country out that way I love it, Thanks for sharing, those springs have a little fish called the Desert Gobby a nice little colourful fish, I went for the ARB tyre repair kit less hassle then that one it has the tooling seperate so you don't have to change over with the key, I got it for the same price on special to, you should hit them up, you are lucky, I have used mine twice already and only had it a year.
Did this track 40yrs ago in a Ford bronco towing a jayco Swan. Can't say the road conditions were as good 🤢. Destroyed the new camper, lost the water tank and door so dust was a big problem in the van😄
@@TripInAVan Yep, brand new when we took it on our trip up the Centre and around the gulf and back down the east coast, dad gave it away when we got back as it was totally stuffed. Not built like they are now and roads could hardly be called roads then either.

I did the trip in the reverse direction, in a Honda Accord. I asked travellers who had just done the road, lowered the tyre pressures all round and drove to the conditions of the road. Gave myself plenty of time, even enough to do a couple of side trips (Strangways Springs) and took it very carefully when the road looked rough. No problems at all. @@TripInAVan I agree. Never had a flat either with the Coopers. Cape York(2018), Kimberley(2019), and Alice via Finke then down the Oodnadatta(May/June 2021) all in our Troopy towing our camper. After all that earlier rain, the country was looking the best we've seen, and the Track as well.

Wow, do you have solar power plants installed in your RVs? I installed one and it's easy to use.
Try putting the handle on ya Jack around the other way so the handle part is facing away from the jack.
I was going to suggest that, so thanks for pointing that out to Justin.
And also, always place the “loose” wheel under the vehicle in case the jack fails or slips.
Don't need to use handle if you put the winder in a drill. So much easier !!
I was thinking the same.
@@alltron66 yes I like the drill idea even better lol

Chop the end off your jack handle and weld a wheel nut onto it, then you can use your power wrench to raise and lower the truck, way faster mate.
Great video. I did 2 warranty claims on the Cooper st Maxx’s and that was with barely any weight and appropriate pressures. Never again. To their credit though I was given very generous credits towards new tyres. Hope they serve you well however!
First flat in 5 years, can’t complain hey.. they’ve been a great tyre for us
@@TripInAVan some of us are just unlucky. Glad they’ve been good to you.
Enjoy with family
We were in Coober and Alice for the Fink 2 years ago, still having nightmares about the flies! 🇦🇺🍺🍺🍺
😂😂
Poor baby, lol Beck is trying so hard to talk and those relentless flies just won’t leave her alone. We would like to see more mummy blogs too please.
