It gives me chills listening to Doris break down her ascension in NBA analysis/commentary. She’s one of the few people there off of shear merit I think. I clicked this video because whenever I hear her talk during games, she’s usually saying something compelling that I didn’t know and I’m far from a casual fan. I really hope she feels like she deserves her spot because she does and I hope that she knows that as fans, we appreciate her work over the years.

This podcast was just amazing (as always) to listen to and it was just so touching to hear Doris talk about how she fell in love with basketball and what got her here. It is impossible to not have gargantuan amount of admiration for the work she has put in to get to where she is now in a male dominated industry and upholding to those standards with her exemplary analysis of the game. This podcast was just a blast to listen to, again as it always is every single week. Thank you guys for what you do. 🙌

Great episode man. I felt that!! It made me very emotional. The funny thing is that for me being out there on the soccer field was the place for me where I felt like I belonged. But, it was also the place where I was critiqued and roasted the hardest. At times it was abusive. No place on this earth or profession will ever give someone more adoration or criticism than in professional sports. This includes critique, roast and abuse from other athletes, experts, team executives, scouts, fans and your own teammates! No other profession or place will beat your down harder or build you up higher. It’s intoxicating and addicting all at the same time and that’s why I think that most of us find it so hard to give it up. The high is so high that nothing else in this world can ever replace it.

First I just want to say that I am going for the Nuggets, I love Jokic he is my favorite player right now in the NBA. To act like the Nuggets, Warriors, and Grizzlies are the first teams to get their role players later in the lottery is ridiculous. Was Tony Parker not drafted at the end of the first round? Manu Ginobili at the end of the second round? What these teams have done is take pops blueprint that worked for 20 years and won 5 championships and expanding on it. Kerr, and Jenkins came through San Antonio and they credit pop. Pop helped Malone get a job in Cleveland, and New Orleans pop also helped him while he was in Sacramento. Once again I want to say I love Denver but to erase pops influence is an injustice especially when the coaches themselves have credited pop

On the subject of Jokic and defense. He's not a Jaren Jackson Jr. or a Giannis obviously, but what I think is extremely valuable about the way he plays defense is that he doesn't try to do too much and therefore doesn't accumulate a bunch of needless fouls. I don't see him get into a lot of foul trouble in general and knock himself out of a quarter or a half. Whereas there are a ton of big men who struggle with this. I've seen bigs like Ayton or Jackson Jr commit so many pointless fouls and have to get subbed out of the game early. I think Jokic should get some credit for being smart about how he contends with his size without fouling - he understands his value is in being on the court - even if it means sacrificing a few points in the paint - so he's not wasted on the bench with foul trouble.

JJ and Tommy - interesting question related to how media can be better with Doris, but I think you are sitting on the answer already.
In your podcast you get into the fine grains of the game and there needs to be more of that kind of exploration and explanation. NBA media has done the game a disservice by expounding on the fantastic and not the fundamental. The two best comparators to Jokić for example are Tim Duncan and Kareem Abdul Jabbar, both of who get overlooked in the discussion of greatest ever in part because of their understated personalities. People forget that TD was known as “The Big Fundamental” and even as he played that wasn’t celebrated in the same way as Shaq tossing Chris Dudley under the basket like he was a dog’s chew toy. Even a guy like Vince Carter gets celebrated for his dunks over the fact that, other than a few early years in Toronto, that guy never really moved the needle for any team he played on because he prioritized comfort over commitment.
Show the audience what the real game is about. You can do that, so can Doris and so can Draymond. Quit with the “hot takes” as an industry. Jokić was the engine on the best team in the league and put up a historic stat line for the season resulting in a year where he should have won the MVP but didn’t because it was Joel Embiid’s - out in Round Two again - “turn”.
I get personality and sizzle is easy to sell, but the beauty of the game isn’t there. Michael Jordan wasn’t great because of the hype, he was great because, even as the greatest athlete ever on the floor, he had the best fundamentals, he worked the hardest and he practiced like a demon.
You guys need to start bringing those aspects forward and stop talking about guys like Zion Williamson and Ben Simmons who to me are completely irrelevant to the discussion of the game. Leave the clowns for the circus. Show the game for what makes it great.

Look up bouldering, pro climbers aren't ripped, huge... but they throw their whole bodyweight off of a finger on a 1cm crimp. I think the NBA skills have been static overtime for a reason, but it is interesting to consider new types of athleticism and see the effect on the game. Might be a slow but interesting shift over the next few decades.
