oh my god, the beans have been spilled, i'm COMING BACK. NOT ALL SEQUELS ARE BAD, PEOPLE! hehe
I think this will be your third appearance, everyone loves a trilogy!
I love the "no books on a dead planet" series idea - would love for you to discuss "Consumed" by Aja Barber with someone if you have the mental energy for it!

Can you chat with Hank Green?
Misery-Mas is genuinely making this (not really festive) festive season better! So thank you for that!! Also - I'm one of the Gumptioners who keeps suggesting Terry Pratchett to you, so I would love to hear your thoughts on Equal Rites once you read it! It's not my favourite, but a good starter into his world :)
Yes, I second Terry Pratchett!! I think Equal Rites can make for a great introductory book into the series, and works well as a 'standalone' too (although my favourites are Reaper Man and all the Watch books)
Agreed omg
Equal rites was my first and I'm hooked
@@imogenf5866 I agree it's a good introductory book! Of tge adult novels I read Hogfather first, so it's one of my all time favourites, but I am with you on The Watch series. I would love to hear Leena's thoughts on Guards! Guards!
@@georgiebarreett7298 Such a great series!!
Pratchett’s Equal Rites! Great choice by your friend. Sarcastic witty humor with a witchy ‘feminist’ twist this one
I always recommend 'Wee Free Men' as a Pratchett starter book - it parodies fairy tales which is super fun, and it's written for young adults so is a bit more calm than the full adult Discworld chaos
Or Where's My Cow if you really wanna pare things back XD
In general I think the witches are a great place to start
Wee Free Men was my first Terry Pratchett book! I read it in Dutch when I was 7 or 8 years old and got it a year or 2 ago in English
Literally scrolled down to type the comment you did, and well, you've done it and great taste! I'm sure Leena will like Granny W and Esk too. I hope :)
I love Wee Free Men and it was my first discworld, but if people want to try Terry Pratchett without jumping into the entire discworld, Good Omens is my all time favorite book as well. 💜
Finding out that you have never read any Pratchett is wild to me! I’ve been reading his work since I was 9 or 10 and they are my go-to comfort reads, especially the guard novels
I actually study past climates from the last couple of million years and I find the focus on "the planet surviving" when it comes to climate change a bit unhelpful. The climate has always changed quite dramatically, and although we are forcing it into high levels of variability at a speed at which is unprecedented the planet in a few million years after humans have stopped meddling with its systems will probably be fine it will just look quite different to what it does now, in the way it has always done. I really think the discussion needs to change to our survival as a species and the many other species that we are reliant on. No criticism on you Leena, just the discussion on human climate change at large.
Also I loved we are the weather, and have never related to a book.
And I do also still have Angel Unlimited on my bookshelf in my parent's and still can't bring myself to part with it.
I think I’ve mentioned it in the Patreon before but What We Think About When We Try Not to Think About Global Warming by Per Essen Stoknes would be perfect for this series! It’s all about the psychology around talking about the climate and why people avoid the subject, while also not being all doom and gloom and talking about a path forward. It’s a lesser known climate book but I feel like should be more popular.
YES TO TERRY PRATCHETT! I love his writing. Equal Rites is part of the Discworld series and honestly, in their own ways, each book is an absolutely enjoyable read.
I love this idea!! As someone who wants to know more, but finds it both heavy and overwhelming this sounds like the series I need to point me in the right direction!! 💛💛
I love shopping my stash or mostly my sisters/ mother in laws stash :D She used to be an english teacher (here in Germany) and has so many German, english classic and new books and I love discussing them with her afterwards. Now when I'm coming round, she often has one or two books picked out for me to take because they made her think of me. Sharing books is so wholesome.
I wonder if Leena’s read Rachel Carson’s silent spring? Not the easiest to get through, but a pretty foundational book in Climate change history. Also, On Farther Shore is interesting companion to Silent Spring. Might be a good pick for the climate series. I work in environment and conservation and am very excited about this series!
I really recommend the audiobook version of braiding sweetgrass! the author's voice is sooo soothing
You can really hear her smile, too!
It was one of my favourite reads of last year. When I found out there was an audio book version and listened to a sample, I started crying, because her voice really IS that comforting! Robin is a wonderful person and her voice is so calming and motherly.
I've been trying to remember the name of the Angels Unlimited series for ages! I loved them when I was a child, my local library didn't have all the books so I never finished the series but now I know what it is called I can finally seek it out and read everything from the start...
Heck yes, read the Terry Pratchett book! I know they're not for everyone, but the people who *do* like them *really* *really* *like* *them* . (me, for example, lol)
So who knows, you might be missing out on something. ^^
Who can't enjoy Pratchett?? Who is this person and why do they hate such incredible insight into the human condition?! ( Obviously I am a huge Pratchett fan, read almost everything I can get my hands on, I stopped reading the Long Earth series after the 2nd or 3rd one but I am mildly obsessed with everything else).
@@ZaydaFleming I only remember one right now and she was a lawyer. That might explain why. :P
ANGELS UNLIMITED !! i'd completely forgotten about it but what a classic
I'm so excited for "No books on a dead planet" I am one of those people who can't bring myself to read a book on something so overwhelming but I really feel I need to learn more.
'No books on a dead planet' is a brilliant idea! As someone who works in the conservation sector, discussions about climate change, the biodiversity crisis, and their impacts on people are very common at work, but I'm very aware that the majority of people care but don't know how to have those conversations. Part of why I started on youtube was to help bridge that gap, particularly in my case focusing on UK wildlife since my job is so international. Tackling this from the reader angle is a fascinating idea and I look forward to you posting your first discussion :D
LOVE the idea of "No Books on a Dead Planet"!!! Can't wait to watch. I work at an environmental nonprofit, and it's still really challenging for folks I work with to engage in these discussions. It's so critical that we engage in conversation more and more, especially with people of different mindsets and backgrounds. I might encourage you to invite Queer Brown Vegan, disabled climate activists, Indigenous peoples, and more to discuss these books and climate action with you.
Oooo the five people you meet in heaven is fab. I had a very scruffy copy that got passed around people in hostels when I was travelling, continued passing it on and then my dad forgot to pass it on and it’s sat at his for years 😂
No books on a dead planet seems like a great idea, really looking forward to it!
I'm being reminded I need to read more Terry Pratchett. It's been too long. Maybe after my yearly watching of the movie Hogfather. ❤
Yes shopping your own shelves and no books on a dead planet is so awesome. I’m so here for it 🎄🙌❤️
Bluets is absolutely incredible!
ANGELS UNLIMITED!!! I'm more than a week late to the party but I have never met anyone else who was as obsessed with those books as I was, I too had the whole series (which was no mean feat in Australia lol)
You mentioned Miss Iceland in a video some time this year and I read it: my favorite book of the year, by far! I mostly read ebooks/audiobooks, and I loved it so much that I’m planning to get a physical copy for myself/ maybe get it for a few friends for the holidays?! So thankful for that rec, and very excited to read Hotel Silence when I get the chance!
Angels Unlimited 🤯 I just flashed back to being 14 again. I was obsessed with those books, as I remember them the stories seemed so intricate and complex for what I'm now seeing were tiny tiny books?! I genuinely think some of the random historical details in them have stuck with me for longer than anything I learned in school.
I know a youtuber called Kristina Lynn has read braiding sweetgrass, she might be a great guest to have on! She’s a canada-based environmental scientist and she’s very knowledgable about that stuff, specifically endemic people’s role in conservation. Looking forward to your series.
I'm finally getting around to watching some of the older videos that I missed while I was trying to survive the pandemic life and finish grad school... I am just so impressed with the thoughtfulness and quality of your videos, Leena! I am so glad I get to learn and process alongside past you. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and select parts of your life!
Aw thank you that means a lot!
Oh my god! I just reread angels unlimited and found out there are way more of them than I thought there were - I only ever got to budding star
This is currently The best series on RUclips. Lots of bravos from France !
Loving the new series idea!! I find that your channel talks about a lot of subjects I'm very passionate about (books, the climate, fashion etc.) and how they can connect so I'm always excited to see a notification saying you've uploaded
I LOVE the 'no books on a dead planet' idea, especially because the freeze reaction has been really hard fir me to get over!
Love Jonathan Safran Foer so much, I would be one of the people who cares so much about the climate crisis/environmentalism but also definitely get overwhelmed over things other than small steps (reducing meat intake, thrifting, etc.) So i'm very excited for your new series!
omg the angels unlimited series just unlocked a memory. i’ve been trying to remember what it was called for years
VERY excited for the new book series! Both of the books you suggested are marvelous and life changing.
Hi Leena, I recently rediscovered your channel when I was looking for Vlogmas videos. I want to thank you for your content since the start of the month (and in general). It’s become a daily highlight for me. Your insightfulness and you just talking about things you care about have been really enjoyable to watch, and these videos and community have truly felt like being at home with like-minded people.
No Books on a Dead Planet sounds GREAT - I'll be looking forward to it!
OMG the angels unlimited were the first books I read!!! 7yr old me loved it!
OMG I had an "angels unlimited" book (I still have it actually, it's the first one of the series) and I loved it !
I'm not from the UK so it's really nice to find out we have some childhood books in common
@07:06 omg the never never club what a blast from the past
Omg such a blast from the past with Angels Unlimited… I’d forgotten about that series but I loved it
ANGELS UNLIMITED what a throwback
Oh my gosh the angels unlimited series haven't thought about those books in so so long I loved them growing up!!
Omg so cool to see you have some of my ultimate fave books on your tbr, Braiding Sweetgrass, Equal Rites and Mr Loverman!
Angles Unlimited! I devoured those as a kid/preteen and have never been ever to find them again. Thanks for reminding me!
I very much support the "No books on a dead planet" idea! By the way, I have a thing that you might be interested in - it's not a book (sadly), but an opera performance. It's called "Sun and Sea". It was created by three women from Lithuania and it's so good it makes me feel proud of my country. :D It basically shows how we all chill and relax while at the same time realizing that the world is ending. The performance usually takes place in some big space, they set up this whole beach set with sand and stuff and it's so interesting. They did a world tour and now they're back performing in Lithuania, but I definitely recommend googling and going down that rabbit hole a bit, it's something that deserves your attention for sure!
I like that you and your brother both have the full HP. Can’t wait for the other sibling to finish it before you read the new release!
So excited for this series! Since starting my phd I haven';t been making time for nonfiction outside of my program area, so watching videos about these books will help me feel knowledgeable/like I'm keeping up with how I can help
No books on a dead planet series idea is brilliant Leena!
I LOVED this video!! It’s inspired me to do the same with my books! And I really want to read Sweetgrass too, very excited for the book club
I had 3 of thos angel books, I really liked them as a kid.
Angels Unlimited!! OMG I have all the books!! Now that's a throw back! also melxbrice was one of my first big ships!
LEENA the angels unlimited series was my favourite series as a kid! it really made me love history honestly
Uuuh! I have written my bachelor thesis about Norwegian climate fiction. So if you want to do a detour into novels, I can recommend the books in the climate quartet by Maia Lunde. They are really well researched and do a good job of communicating the challenges ahead.
I remember the Angels Unlimited series! I'd totally forgotten about them but I have a memory of reading at least one where the main character helps with solving Jack the Ripper's crimes (or something along those lines).
I would like to 100% selfishly request a video of you talking about Braiding Sweetgrass like, yesterday. It's kind of the foundation for the thesis I'm writing next semester and the thought of being able to CITE you as a SOURCE would just be absolutely bonkers. Would love to hear your thoughts and I'm so excited for the new series :)
Been loving listening to these while sewing Xmas things + +
We are the Weather is fantastic! Looking forward to that series for next year!
I really like terry pratchett but only read 2 books in the discworld right now. hope you like equal rites and ill continue at least with the witch novels.
Also excited for the non-bookclub, bookclub :D
Very very excited for the new book series! Will deff be trying to read along. Also will finally be out of uni and starting a job soon, so I'm very excited to start tipping you for videos! You deserve it so much, and I've been waiting for earning my own money so that I can express my gratitude for the fantastic content you create!!
Yes! Equal Rites by Terry Pratchett! This is the first book he wrote about the witches, and I've been rereading all of these books in order during the pandemic, finishing with the Tiffany Aching series. He both entertains while looking deep at the psychology (or headology) of being witch in such an interesting, positive, practical way. I feel like I'm wiser for reading these books. I'm only sad that there aren't more of them. Equal Rites is very good, but the books just keep getting better and more interesting as they progress. Each book is meant to stand alone, but they do build in an interesting way if read in succession.
thank you for doing this day-in, day-out in December! I love following along
I absolutely love the video series idea!!
My hot holiday book take is cozy murder mysteries are always an ideal holiday read
I’m excited about the new series!
Omg, I am soooooo happy you're going to read the five people you meet in heaven. I read it in high school and it has long been one of my favourites. It is such a comfort. I hope you love it too!
So sustainable! Thanks for this fun vid
Super excited for the climate book talks!! As an environmental science student, I think about climate change and challenges a lot, and get a lot of great books recommended to me! But I struggle with reading much of anything outside my course material. So this series sounds like it will be a great way to get an overview and to help me determine how I want to prioritize my tbr pile!
Omg, seeing the book cover for "winging it" made me GASP. That unlocked memories I didn't know I had!!
Hi Leena, thanks for these videos. I love the sound of your new climate book reading series, can’t wait to see it!
So excited for you to read Bluets! It’s one of my favorite books 💙✨
I am so eixcited about no books on a dead planet!! You go Leena
This new series sounds great! Really looking forward to it!
BooksxClimate videos are my favourite of yours :) I'm really excited!
Such a good idea about the new series I'm so looking forward to it!
'How Should a Person Be' and 'The Sea The Sea' are two of my favourite books. Thoroughly recommend!
Love this idea as I need to be better about reading what I own and so I'm looking forward to doing that to end the year and moreso in 2022 since library books have taken up a bulk of my reading. Which of course is not a bad thing but balance ya know.
I remember Angels Unlimited! I maybe read one of them, but my sister had the first 3 books
Looking forward to the "no books on a dead planet" series! You're right, I don't feel up to reading books about the thing that honestly worries me the most. Thank you for doing it for me ❤
Also, I love a good Ariel + Leena collab, so I can't wait for that episode!
Loved this! It's encouraging me to finally pick up that one climate book I've got at my place.
I read some "Angels Unlimited"! I think I borrowed them off my sister when we were on holiday and I ran out of books but she never had the whole set
Hell yeah I am very stoked about your new series discussing books on the climate crisis. I feel similarly to you, in that I want to be having more of these conversations but don't really know how to approach them, and it would also be really helpful to hear other people discuss what they learned while reading (instead of just reading the books on my own and increasing my growing panic lol).
I loved those angels books!
I LOVED the Angel Unlimited series!!!!!
Omgomgomg I literally was just talking to my roommate about The Five People You Meet In Heaven today! Fair warning it’s because we were talking about emotionally jarring books, lol. It’s similar but different to Tuesdays with Morrie. Short, easy reads that are actually incredibly difficult to read. Ugh. I read it as a kid and I’ll carry it with me forever in a bittersweet way.
Ooh i’m very excited for this series! I’m the kind of person who buys educational books including climate books but then never reads them bc I like to read to escape the world not to think about it, but I also like to be in the loop with books and hopefully this series will encourage me to actually read some of those books. In fact I already own we are the weather and braiding sweetgrass so that is ideal- will take it home over Christmas :)
Leena, you've managed to make me feel excited about "shopping my own stash" rather than dreading what I was seeing as my year-long book-buying ban!!!
I was the same with Terry Pratchett, I kept being like I don't thing it's my thing, I felt very pressured to read his books but ended up loving the world he created, very immersive. I started with Mort.
Thank you for these videos! I’m so excited to hear your thoughts on Braiding Sweetgrass. If you’re open to listening to the audiobook, it’s read by the author and her voice is lovely, it feels like she’s sitting down with you and telling you a story!
Love the new series idea...very much looking forward to your discussions! :)
yes yes yes to this video! i also have too many unread books, and even though i don't do well with planning ahead on what to read (i end up generally not feeling like reading those books because it feels like i must read them and that takes the fun out) i have a few books i'd like to get to in the upcoming year. either because i've borrowed them from a friend or because a friend is eagerly awaiting my response on a book.
I love Equal Rites so much!!! The 2nd half of that book is incredible. It has so much wit, magic and feminism.
love, that no youtuber, no matter how frequently they make videos, ever points in the right direction when they link videos in the little i button in the top right corner
I have also angels unlimited books! (French in my case) I remember loving them, even though I read them at quite a young age even with some not so light topics like death.
I love your “no books on a dead planet” series!! Definitely keen to see how we go
BLUETS IS STUNNINGLY GORGEOUS you will love!!!!! Took me a year to chew on it and savor it and enjoyed every moment :)
Great idea for no books on a dead planet. Im an environmental studies grad and have been to post grad for ecosystem restoration and reading books like silent spring, naomi klein, etc have been such turn offs to me for years now because it puts me in such a sad place. Its a bit tortuous to just read about environmental tragedy thats already happened or that you know you'll never be able to fix. I really cant bring myself to read these books because I already live on a daily thinking about my impact. Id love to hear some of this commentary without having to go through the emotional turmoil and I thank you for being someone to go through it on our behalf ans share your experience. Xoxo
I'm really excited to see the new series. I'm a new mum, I cannot bear to think about the climate crisis beyond doing all I personally can. So this series sounds ideal for me
Thank you for the video and the entire series so far! I am looking forward to your thoughts on We are the weather. I am giving that one to my dad for Christmas because I have the privilege of coming from a home where that book will be interesting to him but not preachy because my dad might be a boomer but he's one of the sensible and kind ones who have been reusing fabric bags etc for well over 30 years. Jonathan Safran Foer is a great writer in his fiction too though.
