    Yes - 2017 9360 vs 9370, purleeze!
    Looks a good product - and I have a 2016 9360 and am interested in this... But big shame 32GB Ram's not available (????). With the quad core this is close to a lite workstation - especially with those full spec T3 ports. But maybe 32GB would have pushed Dell to ddr4.
    Oh, and another terrific video! Thanks for the great work, really appreciate this.

    Thin and lights are so much more portable that you have to carry extra dongles that take up more overall space than (or require extra carrying containers over) a slightly thicker laptop....

    • @jego207
      @jego207 6 лет назад +1

      It seems that dongle life is inevitable for now. Unless technology makes USB-C widely available for storage.

    Thanks for addressing the issue of coil whine! I wish this were more commonly discussed. I returned an HP Spectre x360 last week because of atrocious coil whine. I find it amazing that such an expensive laptop can have such a problem. You'd think for that price point, they could out-engineer it or something.

    Got this one on sale at the MS store - love it so far. The screen is incredible. There is a fan noise issue that multiple people had noticed (check out a thread on the dell site), but with a new BIOS update it seemed to be somewhat better. Anyone who had similar issues please comment - otherwise a near-perfect laptop

    I understand why over time they switch to USB-C (though I hate machines that force you to use dongles by only offering USB-C now). But what the hell is up with that obsession with making stuff thinner and thinner? Same problem with Smartphones. Soon they will be so thin you have to worry breaking it with your own hands.

    I'm surprised that reviewers don't point out variations in keyboard layout. The big improvement here is separate page up/down and home/end keys. Anyone who navigates through long Word documents for example would find this indispensable. You can also navigate through your browser tabs faster. And those keys are also shortcut keys in many productivity programs. Razor Blade laptops don't even have these keys!

    I have been wanting to get the Dell XPS 13 2in1 for quite a while, but the new Lenovo Yoga 920 and Spectre x360 come with 8th gen CPUs and generally better value for money.

    Great fan of ur reviews. Cant wait for u to review the new 9365 XPS13 2 in 1 and how it compares with the 9370. The primary drawback in the 9365 I believe is the use of the Intel Y-Series processors which I hear does not perform all that great but I am not sure how it compares to the U-Series processors from Intel.....Any insights? Also, is there really a significant difference between the 7th and 8th generation intel? Not only are the 9365 Y Series but they are also 7th Generation :-( Help!!

  • @sdushdiu
    @sdushdiu 6 лет назад +13

    It has reached a point where the drive for symbolism (thinness) at the expense of functionality (I/O, battery size-runtime) has become destructive and a very real limitation sufficient to eliminate said units from any consideration. Not only has it reached the point of diminishing returns, but it has crossed the line and is now simply functionally diminished at an increasingly prohibitive price - especially when compared to units with a 1060 and even a 1070 for the same price. After all, what is the point if one must now carry addition dongles/docks to provide what otherwise could have been easily integrated into a slightly thicker package that provided no limitations while providing significant additional battery life and I/O - and all for less money.

    • @Anton-cv2ti
      @Anton-cv2ti 6 лет назад +3

      sdushdiu I disagree. 90% of students at my school rarely use usb-ports and will be fine off with the dongle when usb is needed, also half of their accessories are already usb-c, they will also be just fine with 8 hours of battery life, where they can choose the 1080p model and get ten-eleven hours if they are one of the few who use their computer so much in a single day.
      They will love that the computer fills less in their bag and weighs less when they have to carry it every day. They will also be happy that it looks sleeker than last generation, even if it is just incrementally.
      To be clear, if you have special needs, like really need battery life for more than one day or don't want to buy new cables/dongles for your usb-A accessories, then I think there should be a computer for you, but it should not be the mainstream flagship-computer that is aimed at the largest part of the population who doesn't care about these things.
      I think realising that fact is a big part of what made Apple so big, and that is what the other companies have also now figured out.

    • @jaywalkra
      @jaywalkra 6 лет назад +2

      If you need I/O, the Latitude 7390 is definitely the better option. 2x Type A, 2x USB-C (1x TB), Ethernet, micro-sd. Plus it has a 60whr battery. And it has a better keyboard as well.

    • @sdushdiu
      @sdushdiu 6 лет назад +2

      LMAO! So the fact that it "looks sleeker" and that they do so little that "they rarely use USB ports" justifies STUDENTS buying an over-priced underperforming platform because it has sufficient battery life. Of course as STUDENTS (who I am sure are all buying this themselves and not using their parent's money) would be "happy" with this as opposed to say an Acer that works just as well for 1/3 the price and does even MORE than does this unit and includes more capable IO in the event one would actually 'DO something' beyond the limited activities of Your students but which they would all cry because it wasn't as "sleek". Sorry, but I can understand why so many students fail to have developed a sense of value rather than entitlement given your poorly based irrationalization. But then, hey, I am sure your Students would also be very happy with a Porsche that their parents buy as these entitled students seldom tow anything or have to actually do anything requiring cargo room or passengers and where how sleek it looks is the primary consideration. And being a bit smaller, it will even be easier to park as it occupies a bit less space in the typical parking space!
      And out of curiosity, do all your students demand an additional tablet for all of the virtual E-books you have adopted as carrying Real books simply impose a strain on your poor snowflakes as well? And why have you not adopted virtual classrooms where they can all stay at home without having to even get up out of bed in order not to inconvenience them?
      Sorry, but as one who has taught undergrad and graduate level physics courses in addition to doing actual research, I would not recommend such a limited unit for my students who require just a bit more flexible capabilities - but then they on occasion have reason to interface with outboard data acquisition peripherals or use printers that do not support wireless printing and/or USBC connectors as well as some peripherals that are incompatible with USB3. And alas, not all of them have demanded their parents buy them an oh so sleek Porsche either, as a few of them who have not attended your class have actually learned the value of money and their concept of value varies just a tad from that to which you ascribe.
      But it's nice that you are so in touch with your students' feelings...if not their actual needs..

      sdushdiu I would hope that a physics teacher/researcher was a little bit more welcoming of outside ideas and constructive criticism, but apparently I need to be destroyed, because I know nothing about life. If you and your students are very focused on physics, then maybe your institution should consider putting usb-c adapters on their cables, and then they would not have any problems switching to the new standard. USB-C is annoying, because it requires dongles right now, but I am excited anyway because I remember that it was designed to be universal and much easier to use than the old usb-plug, and I don't mind the annoyance of change, if it is good change.
      You describe every single one of "my" students as a special snowflake. I don't know any special snowflakes at my school. They are all very intelligent, and many decide to buy a less fancy computer, because they think the price is too steep. But many also have their reasons to buy the shiny expensive one. Like for example, that it is something they will use a lot every day and that they would like something that looks good and feels good. They could do without it, but if they have the money to buy it, they might as well get themselves something they like. And about 50% of them buy it out of their own pocket.
      As you said yourselves, they believe it is sufficient for their needs, and they will not use it to DO MORE, so they might as well get some other qualities that will benefit them, even if these qualities don't actually boost work, but just does something as horrific as make them happy.
      To be clear though, I do agree that products are getting to a point where it is pointless to make them much smaller. But I don't think it is COMPLETELY O U T R A G E O U S, and I also think that the intelligent students at my schools and the design teams at different computer manufacturers already know this.
      I think the Dell XPS is a pretty perfect size now.

      ...Then you are blind. There are many units that provide sufficient battery life as well as more functionality for a lower price. And KnowItAll, many legacy data acquisition platforms that cost MANY times the price of a computer are INCOMPATIBLE with USBC! But continue to display an amazing lack of familiarity with that which you are quick to offer opinions. I am glad you are in touch with your feelings and worship sleek and trendy. A shame you don't think more in terms of value, functionality, and the fact that your student's PARENTS are largely on the hook for buying your trendy toys.Oh, and how are those e-readers coming along?

    Hey great review! And thanks for the review of last years model with this.
    Wanted to ask if you would recommend this laptop as a main laptop for video editing? I don't really want to go for the 15 due to size but is it worth doing? 13 or 15 model for video editing? Some 4K video editing.
    Thanks.

    Lisa does this model 9370 have fan noise problem? Because, I bought one and it had huge fan noise problem.so, I returned it and got a Huawei Matebook X Pro. It’s a great laptop as every reviewer is saying. One small annoying issue is the trackpad rattle noise and also not sure about the support from Huawei should any issue arise later. Also, the knockoff design is a bit weird. So, for these reasons I am planning to exchange it again for a 9370. But I want to know if fan noise is a known issue with XPS 9370. Please help
