@@HappyforNow I'm putting aside some time tomorrow (me time) to scan in a few more bookshelves. I want to get my books done before I do all my picturebooks because next year my collection is going to split across home and work for the first time in years and I need to know where everything is.
I want it to sound exactly like the library checkout counter when they'd scan books back in the 70s and 80s. Sigh. But any sort of beep will work for me at this point for my piles of books.
I couldn't for the life of me figure out my new Tera scanner with libib-- your video was more helpful and easier to understand than the user manual. THANKS!
Thank you for your time and effort in making this video. I was actually looking for a way to use a scanner to inventory all the booze I have in the house, but this gave some ideas. Chief among them, is that I should probably also scan all the books I own, but I would rather just have in on a google sheet and not uploaded to a site... All the best to you!
I recently decided to make book collecting a hobby! I like getting books about niche knowledge, brain stuff, pop culture and philosophy, and the MIT Press essential knowledge series. Before I came to your video I knew I wanted to locate and organize my library through the Library of Congress Call number system (LCCN) (I worked in my university's library for 6 years. that's what I know, that's what I'm sticking with). But I had no idea how I was gonna catalog my books. Your video about libib is gonna make this process so much faster and easier! Even better I found the paid version allows you to sort it by Dewey Decimal and LCCN! Thank you for making this video! It was really helpful!
Our family has a big collection in 3 different languages (English, Italian French) so I need to check if maybe I have the same book in another language which could be ok before buying another version. I will certainly try out this app, thanks. 😊
I've started using this app and not only is it very satisfying it's also so easy to add books to it that it doesn't recognize. Especially when it's a book not in English. The only 'downside' is that reviews are public? But I haven't found out where and my reviews are more random notes so I don't add them on the app. Edit: you're so right on the sound. It's so satisfying and now I'm debating if I should get a scanner... I still have all of my nonfiction and partners books to scan...
I love being able to add different books! I didn’t know that the reviews are public? But I almost never interact with that section of the site. The beeps are so nice I know 😂 if you purchase books regularly I think it can be worth it to invest in the scanner. I use it when I fill up my recent pick ups shelf.
I use this app. I heard of the app before, but I thought you needed the library scanner, but glad I downloaded it anyways! I definitely utilize the tags and groups to better sort my library, because I like seeing how much books I have in all, even the Manga and comics I have 😊. I also have a collection where I put the books I don't have, but only if I have books already in the series ^^. I don't buy books often, sadly, so I don't have the same issue with accidental same book buys. WHICH is another reason why I love this app! I can include the physical AND my ebooks!!! The tags help me sort what ebooks I want to buy a physical copy of and all that Jazz!
I use LibraryThing for my collections! It's much the same, just maybe a bit less pretty. The app for it makes a similar little chime when you scan books in, it's such a happy noise 😄
Does it let you scan different editions of the same book? I have a tag on StoryGraph to track which books I own in each format but I would need to create another tag for special editions or add the special editions separately. Either way I feel like I’m double counting them so I’m still trying to figure out how to track my books that works for me. 📚📖
It will duplicate scan and I made a note for duplicate editions/versions. You also could upload the alternate edition covers to show each one you have. It’s been working well for me overall doing it this way. I find myself always annoyed when I track in storygraph/goodreads cause it’s harder to make a note 😅
If I may add something, searching and adding through ISBN lets you add multiple books easier. That is because sometimes for different editions there will be made a new ISBN.
Libib isn't storing them it just an inventory system basically. I think you could catalog via isbn or titles manually that would be a lot of work. Calibre may be a better fit to store/back up kindle books
Could you provide the link to that scanner please! Amazon hopefully! I have Libib and it took quite a while to use my phone and this looks awesome! Thanks!
I got a scanner and the app, I’ve connected the scanner to the computer and told it ISBN, but when I click it with the cursor in the input box, nothing happens. Where did you get that barcode that paired it? Can you share it?
The pairing barcode came with the scanner itself. It was in like a little baggie. I'd double check the packaging that you didn't misplace it. Once you pair it it should work. I'm not sure if they are unique or not so I don't know that mine would make yours work.
I still can't get my tera scanner to connect with my libib or laptop. I dont know what i'm doing wrong. I dont have a card...just a 'pairing' code in the manual. I'm so lost LOL
Sometimes if it's an older title it's not in their catalog so you can just go onto amazon to get a different ISBN or search for it. A lot of my vintage romance books don't scan in.
I still track manga & comics in a Google doc.. it's a headache 😅 but this I need because I'm so bad at keeping my online shelves updated. If they add graphic novels to libib I will throw money at them.
@@HappyforNow I did find CLZ Comics (app or website) for single issues, it's barcode enabled but the app is $1.50 a month. Worth it IMO, it also shows predicted spending, pull list, missing issues and tracks stats on your collection which is kinda neat.
I have tried two different scanners that would connect to my iphone and they don't work on my phone. I use the camera on my phone if I need to do it while out and about/am not home to keep track.
@@HappyforNow Bummer 😭🤣 I've only used the phone camera up until this point so it's not the end of the world but that's what I was most excited about getting a scanner for, using it with my phone lol.
We just tried this today and had the same issue. It's a little inconvenient, but on the barcode screen if you click "scan a barcode or enter here" then scan it should work.
I like how you tried here and failed to be snarky? It’s literally a card that comes with this exact scanner model you can’t scan it via the screen🤷🏻♀️
Romance, non-romance… what lol! I love that all of literature, minus the relatively small sub genre romance, is summed up as non-romance. Ok, someone likes romance novels

There is something so satisfying about hearing the beep when you scan a book in. 💖
Omg I know! The beep gives me total brain candy 💖

How? Mine still won't scan in at all
My best-friend gifted me a scanner and I can't thank her enough. And also thank you for this step-by-step guide. I would have been so lost lol
What a wonderful gift! Also have a blast inventorying all the things!

Yes I love them as an alternative to libib! I just found their phone interface less intuitive for me 💖
@@HappyforNow I really isn't great 😅 I've just been using it so long I'm stuck with it 😆
I love the greeting! Hello friends and enemies hahaha I might maybe one day use it if I come back to RUclips 😅
Thank you!!! Super Helpful!
I need one!! When I just rearranged after I was like did I put half these in Book Buddy? Ahhhhh
It makes it so much faster! Especially with the moving so you can do it as you unpack 💖
This is honestly wayyyyy cool ❤️🦝📚
I love this little device it gives those adhd brain buzz of good 💖
I'm so confused. What is the bar code that you are scanning in the beginning to match it??
It comes with the scanner when you order it this model. It’s a card in a ziploc bag that pairs it with the adapter.
I love your glasses!
Thanks 💖
Thank you!! This was so helpful
Thats the question i had. Comics and collectiables.
I’m sure with another software maybe but libib only does books, cds and dvds.
So helpful thank you

Have you found a similar method for cataloging comic books (since they don't work with Libib?)
Comic tracks is the app I used for my comic collection
Can I ask, I have a lot of kindle books... there are no bar codes with them. Is there a way I can store my indie books on the libib app?
Libib isn't storing them it just an inventory system basically. I think you could catalog via isbn or titles manually that would be a lot of work. Calibre may be a better fit to store/back up kindle books
Great video thanks for making it 📚
Thanks Brandi 💖💖💖

It's linked in the description right above libib!
I wanna start doing it too, but can you do it without scanner?
Yeah you can use your phone camera too
@ thank you so mich for the quick response

What about old books that don’t have bar codes?
You can search via title or get an isbn on Amazon or Barnes and nobles
I have several books that show an error when scanned. Is it because they are too old? How can I add them?
Click add manually and you can input the details. On the computer website you can easily add the cover as well if you find it on google.
Girl I saw "Bad Boys Happy Home" in your library 😏
It's a fun one 💖
Where can I get the code card that you scanned?
That came with my scanner when I purchased it in the box. Some scanners do not have the card for pairing.
I still can't get my tera scanner to connect with my libib or laptop. I dont know what i'm doing wrong. I dont have a card...just a 'pairing' code in the manual. I'm so lost LOL
I have a different brand so I’m not sure how that one works sorry. I assume you scan the stuff in the manual maybe?

Hey....why can't I add books despite having bar code on the back😢
Sometimes if it's an older title it's not in their catalog so you can just go onto amazon to get a different ISBN or search for it. A lot of my vintage romance books don't scan in.
@@HappyforNow Thanks for your response ❤️💕...yes they they are old books..
If you us the laptop or computer at home.. can you us the app while your out about to see you have that book !!! ❤❤xx
Yup! Its why I love using libib so I can bulk import when I need to but also not double buy as often
Are you use the free or the pro?
Free version I see no need for the paid unless you have that many books.
Does libib sort by genre?
I use tags or different catalogs for each genre, but I checked and don't see specifically a place it would do that for you 💖
What scanner are you using?
It’s linked in the description. It’s a random Amazon one I found. I also have a smaller pink Bluetooth one that works great too.
I still track manga & comics in a Google doc.. it's a headache 😅 but this I need because I'm so bad at keeping my online shelves updated. If they add graphic novels to libib I will throw money at them.
Graphic novels are on libib! Just not single issue comics.
I always forget to upset the Google sheet so this is much faster 💖
