  • In this video, I show you how to get started creating a Mailchimp welcome email automation for new subscribers. Specifically, I demonstrate building a Mailchimp Customer Journey so that anyone who signs up to our audience list will be sent a welcome email. During the building of the journey I supply you with a couple of tips and advice to more effectively build out the roadmap or welcome sequence you'd want your subscribers to follow.

    Hey Larry, brilliant stuff here! Thank you! My Q: How do I get email addresses of new RUclips subscribers so I can trigger MailChimp to send a Welcome email? Ian, Sydney

      Hiya Ian! Glad the video was helpful, and thanks for the question. There is no way that I know of to discover/download subscribers' email addresses in bulk. If any RUclips account publicly subscribes to your channel (you can see a list in the RUclips Studio), you can visit their channel/about page and click the "View Email Address" button, but I've never done it. You might want to read up on RUclips T&Cs before using account emails for marketing. Most folks ask viewers to subscribe to their email list via a link in the comments and description (i.e., fill out an email opt-in form).

      @@LarrySnow Hey Larry, many thanks for that! In your opinion, do you think a simple welcome email would be acceptable to new subscribers? Using their publicly available email address. A note that says thanks for subscribing, please leave comments when you feel moved to, and enjoy the channel. I could also stipulate that this is a welcome email only and you have not been subscribed to an email list. What do you think?

      It could work, but the potential to marking the email as spam is pretty great, which would effect your reputation and may get the attention of Mailchimp's Omnivore system - mailchimp.com/help/about-omnivore/. Personally, I wouldn't take the risk. Instead, you could simply email them outside of Mailchimp using your personal or business email address and have the same affect without the risk. I'd let them know you got their email address from their channel as well.

    Hi Larry.. how do remove the “ welcome” tag once welcome email has been sent without removing it manually from each subscriber?

      Thanks for the question. Pause the customer journey to edit it. Add a new journey point - action Tag/Untag - at the end of the welcome sequence customer journey. In the action point, select Untag welcome. Turn back on the Journey. This will untag subscribers going forward. Those subscribers already tagged with the welcome tag will need to be removed manually. Go to your audience list. Select filter by tag - choose the welcome tag. Then click the 🔽 in the first column to select all - verify that all contacts have the welcome tag, then from the menu, select Untag All, then select the welcome tag.

    larry I want to ask, why when I send an email automatically, my email is not sent to the audience, what should I do

      A few things to check. Make sure you have paid marketing plan to use Customer Journeys; check to make sure the Customer Journey is Active (Turned on); if you do have full access to Journeys and it is turned on, check the queue (are there subscribers waiting); if there is a queue, then pause and edit the Journey, and check the schedule of when the automated email is being sent.

    I simply want a welcome email sent when a subscriber signs up on my landing page. I made a journey, but no emails have been sent. Am I missing a step?

      What is the trigger/starting point of your Journey? Do you have a tag associated with the Mailchimp landing page?

    Lary I need you help my client wants me to setup automation for him he wants to start like this Collect emails via survey money and after that send them email. can you tell me what I need to do, how can I do it

      You'll need a third party tool like Zapier to capture the email addresses from SurveyMonkey to automatically add them to a Mailchimp audience list with a proper tag/group in order to start/trigger the automation. zapier.com/apps/mailchimp/integrations/surveymonkey/718/add-new-surveymonkey-respondents-to-a-mailchimp-email-list

      You'll definitely need some type of intermediary to capture the email addresses - Zapier, Make, IFTTT, Pabbly, etc.
